Season One: Necessities of a Star ship's Survival
Mission One: Power!
In the Beginning…
The air was poor, the lights were out, the only illumination was from emergency chemical flares, and the smoke that hung dense made that into murk… The cold of space was creeping into the ship as her heat leached out, till you felt like you would never be warm again… how prophetic. Finally Estaban had no choice the O2 levels had dropped to 19%, two people on the little auxiliary bridge had already passed out due to lack of Oxygen.
"Power us up, I'm done hiding in the dark" He growled, then winced as the emergency lighting came up and he found the bandage had slipped off his bad eye, he pulled it back in place and looked around and at who he had left. Lucy was flying… that was probably why they were still alive at that point, Phoenix was on Tactical, not that there was anything left to shoot. "Full scan, we need to know what's around us." He ordered as he watched the smoke drift to the air vents and the air in the little bridge clear. "Beckett, I need a status report."
Beckett, dizzy from the lack of oxygen blinked a few times, trying to clear her head. "Forget it Captain. What we've got left isn't enough to do anything. Warp core's gone. Fusion reactors are running at next to nil, and it'll be several weeks before I can get them back up. That is, of course assuming we find a full spacedock where I can swap them out, Batteries have enough power left in them to maintain gray mode for..." She tapped a few controls, and focused on the flickering panel. "Uh.... 72 hours. Two hours after that, we're dead."
Estaban knew that they had no warp core; he knew they were missing a warp nasal, he knew there was dead and dying all through his ship… his beloved ship, his loyal crew… What had he done to them both? He had felt the ship groan and strain under the assault; he had heard the cries and screams of his crew. For the last three hours there had been nothing… but the moans of the wounded.
The sword at his side rasped as he stood up, then the click, click, click of the sword's end on the floor as he limped around the small bridge. He had twisted his knee again, only this time he knew that people were worse off them him, and needed the limited medical care that could be given more so then himself. He rested his hand on Lucy's shoulder for a moment, "Good job there." He growled to her, his vocal cords had been injured when the left side of his face had been burned, all he could do is sound harsh, this war had cost him like it had cost so many others… all that he knew, all that he loved, and all that he respected… now the ultimate price, it was costing him his ship and crew. Well no more! He would not let it!
Click, click, click, went the epee as he crossed the bridge to Phoenix. In the softest voice he could manage he asked. "Do we have a chance in hell?" He could almost see his breath in the air, he experimentally breathed out slowly to see the condensed 'smoke'.
Phoenix looked at the captain as he walked over to the small station that he was at he took a lot when the bridge was taken out, silly man held the tubolift door open too long hoping that the helms man would make it, if it wasn't for him pulling him back then they all could of been fried to a crisp if he didn't put him back and for that he lost the skin on his arm if it wasn't for it being bionic then it could of been worse it still wasn't working like it use to.
He was not sure what to say... did they "If we don't get a new power core soon we will be dead in weeks, that's only if we start to draw straws to see who lives. So we have 74 hours if we don't find away to generate more power"
"Seventy-two sir. Once the power goes, we're up the creek, with no paddle." Interjected Beckett
Phoenix looked over to his daughter at the helm the last thing he was going to do was see her die out here even if killed him.
"There will be no straw drawing here." Estaban growled. Looking at Beckett, "Beckett, I think we lost the Chief Engineer with the Warp Core, get down to Engineering and…" he looked for the right words. "… Make a miracle. You have anything you need except the Aerowing it's sacrosanct." And he got a look of gratitude from Lucy. Then he looked at Phoenix. "Find out what's out there, and where out there is. I feel like we aren't where we were. Your board shows a civilian distress beacon, and some Starfleet equipment, that might be our savior… or at least part of the miracle I am asking for…"
Kendall grunted and made for the Jeffries tube. Turbolifts were down. She'd have to... how did the old phrase go? "Hoof it."
"I'll be in whatever's left of Engineering."
Estaban looked around the little bridge, "Lucy, go to the Aerowing, check it over, if it's ready to fly then prepare to launch as soon as your dad gives you a target, if it's not… fix it."
Phoenix check what was out there but in the ships in pieces then there was not much he could do to say what was what. he looked up
"The Rainmaker sensors are not what they use to be I can tell you there something there just can't tell you what it is, the only thing we can do is hope the Aerowing is better off or just keep sending you to what's out there until we find something, but that's not a good idea we don't know what else is out there and the Aerowing will not stand up to much fire" He didn't want her to go not by herself, he knew that one extra person wouldn't change anything if they where attack just that they would lose 2 crewmen not one but it would made him feel better if she was not by herself.
Estaban was reading over Phoenix's shoulder, "There is a Valk, and some other shuttle with life signs, direct Lucy to get those, tell her to bring in the Valk first, the shuttle seems to be moving a little bit, anyway, since we don't have energy for containment I would prefer to put the Valkyrie in the shuttle deck first, Starfleet pilots at least have been trained not to open the hatch till they know there is air around them, the civilian is an unknown...
After looking over the Wildcat Estaban made his decision, it had already been made for him. "Phoenix, take helm, we have nothing but maneuvering jets right now, start us on the way toward that Ship." He pointed to the display of the Wildcat, "I am going to free up Harry for Tactical. You have the conn."
He said those words out of mere rote, there wasn't much left to command at this point, Lucy and the Aerowing had her orders, Beckett was putting together pieces, and Phoenix had to fly a ship over 300 meters long like the moon rockets of the old days, every burn calculated to turn her had to be stopped by a rocket burn on the other side, long slow burns to get her moving then again to get her to stop.

Estaban walked out of the little aux bridge and into the twilight hallways, he headed towards the brig to relieve Harry from a useless job for one they needed so much more.

Estaban walked into the Brig area, the doors were stuck open and with the air like it is that would probably be a good thing. He looked around in the murk till he found Harry.
Harry stood as Estaban entered the room but said nothing, she knew if he was down here right now there was something wrong. She waited and let him speak first.
“I’ll take care of the prisoner from here, you report to the Bridge and take over the Tactical Station. We are in a bad way and I need you on the bridge.”
"Aye Sir." she replied and turned and headed for the bridge, she wanted desperately to know just how bad things were. Stuck down here in the brig she had no idea of what was happening elsewhere, other than from the feel of things it was bad. She was glad to be out of the brig and away from that annoying worm Yesab, she still hated him she had no reason to like him and didn't think she ever would. But more importantly she would be able to try and do something on the bridge, down here she was just a glorified babysitter.
Then Estaban walked up to Yesab’s cell. He looked inside. “What am I going to do with you?”
“Well I’m assuming you’re taking me to prison. And I will have my complaints when I get there. What kind of Captain allows his ship to get tossed about so, war or no war? Now it’s dark, I can’t breath, and it’s cold and by the way guard or no guard I could have escaped if I felt like it. So perhaps you can tell me why you are asking me the question of what to do.”
Estaban looked at him, and in his gravelly voice he explained. “It’s like this…” he paused to find how to put it. “We have sustained major damages, three quarters of the crew are dead, the ship has lost a warp nacelle, and the warp core. Our resources are stretched to the very limits. I can no longer afford prisoners, so…” Estaban drew his phaser and made a show of setting it to the highest setting. “You have two choices, become active crew… or stop being a drain on our resources.”
“You are mad Captain. But being the brilliant man that I am, I choose to live. I will become part of the crew, but rest assured I will escape first good opportunity I find.” Yesab said in a matter of factually way.
Estaban smiled and put the phaser on his belt again and held out his hand to shake. “I will have your signature on the articles, by and by, but for now what position do we put you in? You are to slight for Engineer… I need someone for the Science department, you have the title of Doctor in front of your name, I am assuming it’s not medical. Is it?”
“You assume right,” he said proudly, as he stuck out his hand and shook Estaban’s. “So we are agreed that I can escape first opportunity I get?” He asked seriously.
Estaban grinned, “Be my ever loving guest. But if you use any of the resources of this ship to do it, for example a shuttle, I will kill you dead. I probably should tell you we are close to Bajor, about fifty light years from Earth and the Borg front lines, there is nothing that is not Borg anywhere close to us.” The twinkle of laughter in Estaban’s good eye showed for the first time in quite a while. “I will give you an acting Warrant rank, you will be below the Ensign that is still alive with us, but you will be above the crew, you tyrannize them, I will kill you. You steal from this ship I will kill you, etc and all of that. Got it?”
“You are mad Captain, I tell you, if I escape you won’t have the chance to kill me. But, being the brilliant man that I am, I can see you are in need of my services. So I will comply… for now.” Yesab said sarcastically, then he felt the pain in his shoulder, it seemed he had pulled some muscles while hanging on to his bunk to keep from tumbling around during the battle. “By the way, I need a Doctor.” He grumbled.
“We are fresh out, and even if we had one, there are much worse than you lying on the deck. Come on to the Bridge, we got to figure out how to put a square peg in a round hole.” Estaban said over his shoulder as he walked out of the Brig area.
Yesab followed; as he walked out he tripped over a dead body. It began to hit him how serious this all was going to be.

[SS Flying Dutchman]
Sergei had managed to calm down a little. A little. So he hit the com to see if his com was working, and if the crippled starship's com was working. "This is the civilian shuttle Flying Dutchman to unidentified Starfleet vessel. Repeat, Flying Dutchman to unidentified Starfleet vessel. I have taken serious damage, varp is offline. I am moving in your direction."
He turned off the com, hoping that it went through. Taking a shaky breath, he looked around. He wasn't hyperventilating anymore, but he was stuck, his PO was dead, and he had no gravity, or main power. At least he had air. And heat.

Harry was at the tactical station on the bridge seeing just what they had left in the way of weapons when the hail came in, she had ignored Yesab and the captain coming on to the bridge. But the comm she could not ignore, =/\="Civillian Vessel Flying Dutchman this is the USS Rainmaker, dock in shuttle bay 2. I repeat dock in shuttle bay 2"=/\=
On the Dutchman, Sergei was only getting half the message. "...Man this is the USS Rainma...shut...eat...bay 2..."
Sergei hit the com again, "Dutchman to USS Rainmavhatever, please r-repeat. Over."
=/\="Dutchman,Dock in shuttle bay 2, I repeat dock in shuttle bay 2."=/\=
Kicking the computer, Sergei swore. "Dock in shuttlebay two?"
=/\="Thats correct, bay 2."=/\= Harry left the bridge and rushed down to bay 2, she wanted to be there when the shuttle docked. She didn't know what condition their crew would be in or if it was a trap but she would be ready for both possibilities.
Sergei started manuevering the Dutchman to the ship. He wondered if the ship he was going to, whose name he still didn't know, was in worse shape than his ship. Except that he was losing life support and it was getting really cold.
It took Harry longer than she would of liked to get down to the shuttle bay but after about 8 minutes she made it there, she was still armed and drew her phasor checking it was set to maximum stun. Then she waited for the shuttle to dock.
Harry stood back from the shuttle and waited for them to open the hatch, what were they waiting for . . . . . were they even still concious. Slowly she walked over to the shuttle and standing to one side of the hatch banged on the hull, hopefully if those inside heard her they would know it was safe to exit.
Sergei opened the hatch, looking out carefully. He had grabbed Officer Grady's jacket to stay warm, although it was obviously too small. Seeing a phaser, he put his hands up. "Not armed!"
Harry lowered her phaser and stepped back from the shuttle, "Step clear of the shuttle and any others onboard do the same." she said as she watched him carefully.
Sergei stepped out of the shuttle with his hands on his head. "Dead he's...Officer Grady's dead..." The man twitched slightly as he loooked around. He hated security, wasn't too fond of Starfleet either.
"You can put your hands down, who attacked your vessel." Harry asked as she walked behind him to check the shuttle for herself, she looked through the Hatch and saw the body of 'officer grady' he was most certainly dead.
"G-g-got beat up in the battle, trying to out, get out, got hit, voke up here." Sergei replied, putting his hands down, slowly, and keeping them in front. He looked around, eyes darting about quickly as he swallowed.
"Whats your name." Harry asked in a slightly softer tone as she looked him over, "Lets get you to sickbay and you can tell the Captain all about it when he is free to come chat." she said as she indicated the doors from the bay.
"Sergei... Sergei O...P-P-Pab-Pablovinski." Sergei stammered out, trying to get a hold of himself to stop stuttering. He hated using the name Pablovinski, but he wasn't going to risk admitting who he was in case they could find out. Not with a dead PO in the Dutchman. They'd never let him free.
Harry gave him a slight smile, "Well Mr Pablovinski I think we had best get you to sickbay before you see anyone else, can't have a civillian taking ill while they are a 'guest' aboard this vessel." she wasn't totaly sure he was telling the truth but she was sure that one way or another they would find out, right now though their priority was to keep themselves alive.
"This way please." she said once more indicateing the exit.
"I'm, I'm fine." Sergei replied with a slight twitch. "Just vodka, need a vodka."
"Sorry no drink until after the doctor has checked you over, would be more than my jobs worth to risk giveing you anything to eat or drink right now." she said with a slight shake of her head.
Sergei grunted, "It's not like I have a head injury..." He blinked a couple of times. "I don't think..."
"Thats why you get checked over first." Harry said as she guided him to the make shift sickbay.
Sergei grunted again. "Fair enough."
They continued on in silence as Harry was more worried about the ship and crew than him, soon they reached the messhall which was being used as a makeshift sickbay as the real one had been destroyed.
Sergei looked around the mess hall. There were a lot of injured people being dealt with. "I don't...I don't really think I'd be seen soon... I, there are too many ahead of me, more important..."
"Thats for the doctor to decide not you, anyway your not going anywhere else until you have been seen." Harry kept a close watch on him as she tapped her comm badge, "Chant to Maturin, I have the only survivor from the shuttle Flying Dutchman in the temp sick bay. Please advise what action you wish me to take once he has been seen by the doctor." she said then waited for him to reply as she waited with Sergei for the doctor or one of the nurses to see to him.
Sergei looked uncomfortable as he cased all the exits and escape routes. He didn't know what kind of a reaction he'd get, especially since he had yet to take off Grady's jacket and reveal his prison tattoos. At least in this makeshift sickbay, he knew they wouldn't figure out his identity by looking at the DNA.

K'ndry said nothing to himself as he worked on rewiring the comm system on the Valkyrie fighter he was currently imprisoned in. He'd known when he removed the panel on the interior of the fighter that, with some patience and work, he could have the comm system rewired to work off of the emergency generator just the same as the emergency life support did. It might trim some of the time off of how long the emergency life support could hold out. In fact, it almost certainly would. But, that little fact did not concern the pilot over much since he was relatively sure he'd be getting rescued before the day was out by the Intrepid-class starship that was not too horribly far away.
At last, the rewiring completed, K'ndry checked on the status of the comm system. It was reading green and functional. The Caitian pressed the comm button and was greeted first by a burst of static, but that readily cleared itself up leaving the channel working, as near as the pilot could tell. Of course, there was every possibilty that the comm systems on the starship were not working. Time would tell the tale. "This is Lieutenant K'ndry R'pas, Commanding Officer of a 281st Starfighter Squadron to unknown Intrepid class starship. Whatever it was that has brought us to this unknown position in the galaxy has disabled most of the systems on my Valkyrie. Besides not having any power it is in working order. My life support can still hold out for quite some time, almost a week and I have enough rations to last me that long. Can I expect a pick-up or tow to your position anytime soon? Over."

A small ship, an Aerowing to be exact came up beside him. the comm clicked on. "Yes, I'm here to tow you back to the Rainmaker, hang on." There was a bump as the Aerowing's tractor beam locked on the Valkyrie. Then the two vessels started making slow progress towards the Intrepid that had already started turning away from them.
A few minutes later
"I have to put you in manually, the Rainmaker can't do it herself." And with that the Aerowing drifted sideways to the Shuttle door and pushed the Valkyrie in, bumping a shuttle that had been landed there only a short time before.
The bay doors closed blocking out the view of the Aerowing and the air came rushing over the Valkyrie as the shuttle deck pressurized.

K'ndy activated the comm and replied with a single word. "Acknowledged." Once the fighter had touched down gently on the deck of the hanger bay and the bay doors had closed and, most importantly, the pressure had equalized itself so that the pilot wouldn't explosively decompress upon exiting the fighter K'ndry popped the canopy of the Valkyrie manually. Given the somewhat deplorable condition the ship seemed to be in, the pilot was none too sure of a hanger crew approaching with a ladder to ease the transport from the cockpit of the fighter to the deck of the hanger bay. Standing in the cockpit the pilot placed both paws on the side of the fighter and vaulted easily from the cockpit to land on the deck below. Assuming that the dors would have to be re-opened again soon to allow admittance to the shuttle that had towed him in to the hanger bay in the first place, the pilot lost no time in scampering across the hanger deck and into the ship proper.
As the rescued pilot moved from the hanger bay in the direction of the pilots' locker room he couldn't have missed the signs of battle that were readily apparent everywhere. Stepping calmly into the locker room the pilot moved about the room until he found a locker that didn't have a name plate. Digging into one of the many pockets on the flight suit the Caitian procuded a roll of tape and a pen and scribbled his callsign, Centurion, on a bit of the tape before slapping it down on the locker. That done, K'ndry removed his helmet, boots, flight gloves, EVA gear, and survival phaser, removing the power pack from the phaser, and placed the items inside the locker before shutting it. Dressed now in only his flight suit the Caitian set off in the direction of the auxiliary bridge. On the tow in he hadn't missed the damage that had been done to the main bridge.
As the pilot rounded a bend in the deck he nearly bumped into a man with a patch over his right eye. A quick glance at the collar of the uniform the man was wearing showed four pips. Apparently, this was the very man that K'ndry had been off to search for. "Captain," K'ndry asked, stopping in the middle of the corridor.

Estaban was on his way to Marine Country when he stepped on a cat... well a Caitation. He knew ever person on his ship, and he did not have a Cait on his ship. He had stepped back on his good right foot and half drew the sword he had been using as a cane. But the flight suit and lack of Borg implants held him off for the moment that it took to realize he must be looking at the occupant of the Valk that had been out there, that must mean that both small crafts were in now. Lucy would need more work... He would need to tell Phoenix to have her dock and start helping with the Damage control.

He had noted that the man he was speaking two had only one eye and a bad leg. It was clear which side he should press the attack from, should this introduction come to blows. "As for what I was doing out there, I was hoping you could tell me. I was swept up in an unknown subspace field. I do not know where I am in the galaxy aside from no longer at the sight of the Battle of Alpha Centauri. Who are you, sir? Do you know where here is? Do you know the outcome of the battle," the Caitian asked calmly. There was no question as to what had happened to his command. No asking after the ship he had been stationed on. No asking if any casulaties were known to look for friends. While he waited the pilot's left paw still rested on the knife sheathed at his back.

"Just keep running any scans that you can and see if you can find anything more in the junk thats out there will let you know when your needed back" he said watching his pannel he had to keep a close eye on each burn even now just incase they hit anything that could take them off coruse he had to get them back on it and using what little fuel they had left.
"under....out" came the same voice. He was not sure how much of the message went out but that ship was in a bit better shape then this one so the conn would work better. He had a look at how far away they where, in distance it was very short but for them it was still a good hour of flying time as he had to start to bring them to a slow stop in about 30mins.

Mess Hall
Dia felt dizzy as she stood up after setting a broken leg from one of the many casualties that were in the mess hall at the moment. Her headache had become worse and her shoulder was hurting like hell. Still there were people around her that were in a worse condition. She turned around and looked outside to the stars, trying to filter away all the screams of pain that seem to come from everywhere. And there it was, for a short moment as she focused on one of the brighter stars out there: a moment of perfect silence. Dia tried to hang on to it, but the sound of the doors opening brought her back to the here and now. She took a deep breath and slowly turned around wondering how many more victims they'd bring in.
At the door she saw Harry standing with an unknown man. One of the nurses closeby looked at her, "Why don't you get some rest doctor, I'll have a look what they need." Dia was too tired to shake her head, "It's okay, I'll go." She nodded towards the young ensign the nurse was sitting next to, "Try to keep him comfortable, I'll do my best to find some more medication." She gave the nurse a weak smile as she walked towards Harry and the other person.
With sickbay gone, they lost all the medical supplies, the only things left was what they could obtain from the medkits that were stored at critical places throughout the ship. And those would probably already be depleted by now. She'd have to make some time to go around the ship and collect whatever was left of them and make an inventory.
Dia took the scanner from the medical tricorder she was holding as she nodded to Harry and the guy standing next to her. "Commander, sir." Without asking questions Dia started scanning the tall man. She knew Harry wouldn't have brought him here, if she didn't think he didn't need medical attention. On first sight, he looked a bit out of breath, but other than that he was in better shape than most of the other people in the mess hall.
After finishing the scans she looked at Pablovinski, "Well, you're in better shape than most of us, sir. Do you feel dizzy, nausea, anything else?" Sometimes people just felt bad while they were actually in good condition, that's why she added the questions.

"My squadron knew what its job was, sir and my pilots would have considered it the highest honor to give their lives in the war against the Borg."
Estaban shook his head, that was the problem more and more in this war, the Klingon view of honor, 'I will die for the cause' attitude, when fighting against an enemy with unlimited resources, but he didn't say anything
"I understand and accept the temporary reassignment, sir," the pilot replied crisply, removing his paw from the survival knife at his back as he heard the sword click back into its scabbard. An auspicious omen that there would be no violence today.
"As for my equipment it's all in working order, or will be once I handle the repairs. None of the systems were seriously damaged, just disabled by subspace field. When repairs are completed I will have subspace radio again and I will place my fighter at your command, sir. As for a shuttle, the 281st had no such support craft, sir. I do have limited medical and engineering skills, mostly relating to survival and starfighters. I understand the principles are the same in starship engineering as they are in starfighter engineering. How may I be of use, sir?"
Estaban looked him over, "your fighter will wait, this ship has to be priority. Some engineering? Find our Engineer, Becket, and see how you can help." He shifted his weight and looked over his newest crewmember, "Do you have a Phaser? We are at red alert from a Borg battle, you need to be armed." gestering to his own Phaser III at his belt. "If you don't, then make a stop at an armory and get some kind of belt weapon."

"pick...beacon...Borg" Came the female voice again over the conn.
But with that all Phoenix pick up on was the word Borg and that was the last think they needed how.
He shouted to the little Bridge "Clean that mesage up NOW!"
"lucy repet that last mesage" He said they needed to know what all of it said before he could do anything and what he could do was not much.
Here voice came back but this time more clear but still not like it should be "Picking.... beacon... up.. Borg ship" her voice came once more. He listion to the words this time she was talking more about this beacon then the Borg ship.
"What sort of beacon" he said back to her. The conn was getting better now that he had shouted that then to get it working as well as the word Borg had helped to get people moving, he couldn't do anything other then stay at the helm and watch what he was doing.
"Feduation, what do you want me to do" she said
At 1st he wanted to tell her to just leave it but they had to help everyone they could because they was going to need everyone "Check it out but becarful don't want to lose you"
"Don't worry dad I will be fine" she said rolling her eyes.
"Hay, now you on duty remember" He said back.
she let out a sigh "Yes commander" she said before ending the transmission.

The pilot nodded crisply at receiving his orders. "I have a survival phaser in my gear in the pilot's locker room. I think I will stop by the armory and get a personal sidearm with a bit more power and longevity, sir." The pilot saluted smartly once more and pulled a PADD from one of the pockets on his flight suit that he had downloaded a map of the ship onto, complete with damaged and sealed areas. Consequently he had learned that he was on the USS Rainmaker. "I will report to the armory and then to main engineering, sir."
The pilot spun smartly on his heel and checked the map as he moved off. He wasn't all that far from the Marine Armory which was just a bit ahead. In a few minutes the pilot had entered the Marine Armory and retrieved, from the officer on duty, a Type II personal phaser. The first half of his orders having been completed, the pilot moved off again. To get to main engineering he'd have to go for a bit of a crawl since most of the lifts on the ship were offline. Descending into the Jeffries Tubes the Caitian began to scamper along the tubes at a fairly good clip. Being a Caitian with good flexibility and reflexes allowed the pilot to move a good deal easier through the tubes than the humans could.
Several minutes and a few decks later the Caitian emerged onto the proper deck and straightened out with a small stretch, one of the small luxuries he still allowed himself from time to time. Quickly, the pilot set off in the direction of main engineering and entered it. Of course, he had no idea who Beckett was but he assumed that when the engineer saw someone wandering around that they would take the initiative and make contact with him. Or, perhaps the Captain had called ahead on the comm badge to let the engineer know that they would be having another pair of paws on hand to use.

Dia looked at the readings again from the scan, "Your blood pressure is rather high, that might cause the headache. I'd give you something for your headache but I'm afraid with our sickbay blown away our medical supplies are practically zero." She didn't need to look around to know what the man was seeing. Wounded people were filling the mess hall, and she didn't have enough meds to help them all.
"Try to get some rest if you get the opportunity, that might help. If it's not gone by tomorrow come and see me again."
She wished she could do more but it was out of her hands. Dia turned to Harry and the stranger as she softly said, "That's all I can do for now."

As Estaban walked out Yesab got up and went to the auxilary science station and began to salvage parts. He was not happy to be a .. drafted crewmember.
Yesab went back to the main science station and began repairing the console. He tested it, it was mostly a go. At least it had colors to it. He began his scan on the wildcat ship. He found no sign of life, the warp core the captain was so worried about was there and seemed to be intact, though it had no power. The warp nacelles had been heavily damaged and one even looked twisted. Auxillary generators and emergency power was off although the batteries were fully charged.
Yesab then turned to the man flying the ship and reluctantly gave him the report. "Then added Since you are flying this ship sideways, this is the best I can do. I trust you will relay these findings to the captain?"

After talking to the Cait, Estaban continued his trip, but when he saw a mess hall converted to a medic station, he changed course and walked in. He saw a few people that he had known for years, and a few he had only met. He gave what comfort in words that a Captain could, but it was little enough. He saw the Doctor talking to Harry and someone he did not know... He walked that direction. Tap tap tap went the tip of his sword on the deck.

Lucy set in a course to what was left of a Borg cube there was not much and it was a bit far away to have been pushed here by the blast. She scanned it.
It looks like it’s moving on its own power they must be repairing it, she through to herself but it could only be half the size of the rainmaker what was left of the cube.
She scanned the cube there was not much she could pick up from it but she could pick up one fed signal but she couldn’t get a transporter lock he was in a place with too much interference. She tried to hail him.
=/\=Come in this Chief Warrant Officer Phoenix please respond =/\=
“Take this you over grow tin can” He shouted just before blowing a hole in the Borg’s head as it walked to him. He had no idea what it was going to do but whatever it was it was better off dead. He just heard a message but his comm badge was not working well.
=/\=Come.......Officer..... respond =/\= was all he heard. And his message back was just as bad.
=/\=Alive........can’t...... evack.... move...... need...=/\= She was not sure
what he had said but it did looked like he had said what he had said twice and to her best guess was that she was going to need to go in and get him, she through about checking in with the Rainmaker but then through it best not to.
She set the ship to computer control and so that she can give it orders through her comm badge, there was a small bit of gear in the ship and a phaser rifle once she was ready she pick a spot as close as she could to the man and stepped on to the transporter pad.
The next think she was inside the Borg ship she had never seen the inside of one just some of the left over bits that the rainmaker had pick up over the years, it was very dark there was only the very little bit of a green glow but that was it. She moved slowly through the ship and over the battle damage. She kept her phaser pointing in front of her and at the same time tried to use a triquarter out as well to make sure she was going the right way.
She was getting close very close he was just a few more meters away she took a coroner a bit too fast and most walked into one of them but it still tried to grasp her but she moved back falling over something onto the floor but it was still coming for her she took aim and shot it fell just beside her and see got back to her feet fast, there was no way she wanted to be near one dead or alive.
She looked back around and there was more at them she check her triquarter and she slowly started to back off down a tunnel that should take her to the man but they was getting close fast she shot again but this time it didn’t work, she throw the rife at them and set off at a run to where the man should be.
Hawk was sitting on the floor trying not to think about is leg and trying to work out what was taking them so long, just then he heard a phaser shot with this he shifted himself into a better spot to see down the corridor at what was coming, in the distance he could see 3 figures one of them was moving fast the other 2 where moving slower also they were moving in a very Borg way, but moving in his direction.
Whit out thinking he pick up his rife and aimed down the corridor, he shouted “GET DOWN!” as loud as he could.
Lucy hearing this hit the floor as fast as she could. With Hawk watching the saw one of them fall to the floor but the others stayed standing and making no move to stop he took aim and shot. Both drones fell to the floor, Lucy staying low made her way over to him “Thanks for that” she said once she was close. Hawk watch the young lady making her way to him “So where’s the rest of ya then” he said, she looked back at him with the comment “Your looking at them” she said sharply.
“Well sorry” He said “This wasn’t the rescues I was expecting” there was a moment’s pause “well you going to help me up?” he said sitting there, she looking at him she was going to have to if they wanted to get out of here before it was too late “Guess I better before it’s too late” she said getting her head under his arm “Ok on the count of 3, 1...2....3” both them pushed up. He was heavy but with both of them Hawk got to his feet well foot. “What we going to be late for tea time” he said as they started to move slowly. “No we need to get out of here before they get more system online and we can’t beam out” she said trying all her best to hold him up.
“How long we got” he said quickly
“Why” she said still trying to moving him
“So I can dance around like a little pixy, what do you so I can blow this pile of crap to kingdom come” he said as he stopped moving. She was starting to get cross with him now they didn’t have time for this. “Come ON!” She said through gritted teeth “We don’t have anything to do that, and if we move now then maybe the Rainmaker can” trying to pull him.
“Well, we have my little toy over there” he said pointing to a case that was where he was sitting. “Look even if you had something to do that it’s on the deck bellow us and we will have to walk half the ship to get there” She was now shouting at him.
“Well one short cut coming up” He said changing the setting on his rife. It start to power up, it started to sound like it was going to overload “What are you?” She barked at him.
“Stand back” He said before aim at the floor just a little way off and blowing a hole into it. “There you go one short cut, now go and grape the case” he said starting to hop over to where the whole was. This Man is crazy what does he think he’s doing she through to herself but she couldn’t see anyway other than doing this to get him off the blood ship so see want over to get it.
By the time she got to the case and pick it up she looked around and saw that he was already at the hole and was about to climb down “Wait” she called at him but he was already gone she ran over to the hole and looked down. And she heard the words “You coming” shouted back to her, she climb down as well this floor looked different it looked more open then where they was. “Where are we?” she said “I looks like they are building them self a new core so they have power to get everything online” he had a look around “Give me the bomb” She handed it over to him, he pressed a few controls on it and it was armed “Ok go and place it by the core I will cover you and we can get the hell out of here” she ran over and placed it at the bottom just then she heard a phaser shot and a Borg body full “come on let’s get going” he said she ran back over to him and get him under the arm and they started to make their way out.
They got to the beam out point she hit her comm badge =/\= Computer 2 to beam out =/\= but nothing happened. “looks like they got there shields back up” he said looking at her.
“Well this wouldn’t of happened if we left when I said to” she said angry to him trying to think of a way out. “well looks like its plan B” he said holding up the detonator.
“What do you think you’re doing” she said looking at his hand.
“you just be ready to get us out of here” he said as he pressed the detonator and the ship shock around them she tried again. =/\= Computer 2 to beam out =/\= this time it worked they were about on the ship she left him where he was and run for the helm they had to get out of here. She got to the helm and set a course for the Rainmaker just as the Borg ship started to go up in flames.
=/\=Rainmaker I have him we are on our away back=/\= she said tacking a sit.
Hawk hopped his way into the small crafts bridge and took a sit it was good to be off the Borg ship all he had to do was find out where his ship was and then get back on with his mission.

Kendall was standing in what was left of main engineering. The Commander thunked her fist against the console. "Dammit!"
The Engineering staff was dead. All of them. Sucked into space when the environmental forcefield that was in place after the ejection of the warp core, failed. Apparently, the ejection port was stuck open.
And Kendall didn't have time to crawl down and fix it.
There was movement behind her. The Irishwoman spun, drawing her phaser, and taking aim... at a Caitian?
There weren't any Caitians on the Rainmaker.

Dia hesitated as if she needed some time to catch her words as she turned back to the captain, Harry and Pablovinski. She took a breath and frowned, "An inventory, I need an inventory first. Mess Hall
Dia gave Harry a slight nod, "Commander," as she turned around and slowly walked towards the nurse that called for her earlier. On her way she saw an empty emergency bed. She couldn't even remember if the person who used to lie there, actually went back on duty or if he or she passed away.
She should take up some of her own advice and get some rest. She couldn't even remember the last time she had some decent sleep. Would anyone notice if she'd just lay down on the bed and get some rest? Only for a minute. Dia closed her eyes, she knew if she'd lay down she wouldn't be standing up the next hours. She tried to filter out the noises that seemed the be screaming inside her pounding head. It was in vain.
Taking a deep breath, she opened her eyes and as she continued her way towards the nurse. Out of pure habit she already had the scanner of the medtricorder in her left hand and started to scan the patient that was on the bed where the nurse was sitting. "I'm fine doctor, just tell me when I can get back on my feet to help out," she heard a voice saying. Dia kept staring at the tricorder. Did that tricorder started talking now?
"Hey, doc, are you hearing me?" She looked up, that voice didn't come from the tricorder.
Then she saw the ensign at the bed staring at her. She looked from the ensign to the nurse and back. "Hearing? Yes I'm hearing something." The ensign looked at her in disbelief. "Are you trying to be funny, doc?" Dia closed her eyes as she shaked her head slowly. She tried to remember what the ensign had said before. Something about standing on his feet.
She opened her eyes, she remembered now, "No, you'll have to wait ensign, there's a fracture in your leg and as much as you would like to help out, I can't let you go. Not untill I've managed to find an osteogenic stimulator somewhere. You'll have to rest till the fracture is healed."
She smiled at him, "So lay back and get some sleep. And while you're at it, sleep a few hours for me too." She gave him wink as she stood up again. She turned towards Helen, the nurse that was still sitting there, "Make sure he doesn't run off." Helen just nodded back, "Why don't you get some sleep doctor, you need it. I'll come and wake you up if there's an emergency."
Dia grinned towards Helen, "The mess hall is full of emergencies. And we urgently need to make a list with all the supplies we still have. Why don't you make a list of the things we've got available here, and I'll go around the ship to salvage what is still out there." She just wanted to leave the mess hall and go to find some quiet place. Though she probably wouldn't find that anywhere on the ship at the moment.

Equally quickly the pilot's own new phaser spun into his paws and aimed itself in the direction of the woman. Estaban led Sergei through a maze that should have been a clear path, down a ladder that should have been a turbolift ride. And past the dead that should in no streach of the way be strewn randomly in the ship at all.
With seeing all of this environment Estaban kept thinking, I will wake up soon, this will all be over, Oh God please let it be the worst dream ever.
Then they ran into order among the chaos, five Marines where gathering the dead, triage the wounded and clearing a path in the ship. Where you at one point would have had to crawl through the debris you could now squeeze through a small path, and give them a half hour you would be able to run through it. Estaban stopped and thanked them organizing the triage to move the wounded to Dia's med station, and the dead to a cargo bay for proper ceremonies later.
When he asked he found out that out of thirty-five Marines on his ship, only ten lived, no officers, the other five where working in another part of the ship, clearing and helping wounded.
Estaban suggested that they grab any medical supplies they could find on their way to the mess hall and Doctor. And the woman in charge of the Marines smiled and said that was their plan already.
Estaban squeezed through the opening...

The pilot's ears twitched at the sound of the klaxon as he was ushered from Main Engineering. As soon as Kendall began to push the pilot holstered his phaser as she had already put her weapon back in its proper place. As soon as the pair of them had cleared the doors, Kendall raised a forcefield. "Is that a common occurance, Commander," the pilot asked as soon as she'd introduced herself and indicating the failed forcefield in Main Engineering.

"I can get in there and fix it if you can talk me through it. That's more or a repair than I usually do," the pilot answered. "Meet me in Transporter Room 2 in ten minutes."

"I j-just asked an innocent question..."
"And desparate times call for desparate measures."
"Treatening to shoot all of your assistants?" Sergei asked, raising an eyebrow. "I just vant to help."
"Good, this'll be easy then.Welcome to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers. Remind me to have the Captain give you a provisional commission. For now, I dub thee a crewman, may whatever deity you believe in have mercy on your soul. Now, let's get to the Aerowing."
"Very vell. Vhat vill ve be doing?" Sergei asked, looking around, "And how can I help?"

"We'll find out what we'll be doing when we get there. Either we'll be ripping the Wildcat apart for parts for us, or swapping ships."
Sergei nodded, "Very vell."
"Any other dumb questions?"
"Who's the furry thing?"
"Ask him, I only met him a minute ago."
"Vell, is he going to be helping us?"
"If he doesn't, I'll shoot him."
"Okay." Sergei nodded, then looked over to the Caitian. "Furry, who are you?"

"You'd neither find me nor be able to hit me, Commander," K'ndry replied to the Engineer. "As for you, Acting Crewman, you may call me 'sir' or 'Lieutenant R'pas'," the pilot said in a low tone. "If you ever refer to me as 'furry' again, I will kill you. Do you understand?" The tone with which the pilot spoke as low, level headed, and even as he looked at the civilian with unblinking cat-like eyes. "Well, Crewman, do you?"

Sergei looked into the unblinking cat eyes and smiled a cold smile. He knew this type of Marine, his father had been one. It was one type of person that he never stuttered around. "Nice tough guy act, sir, however, Starfleet Marines are not cold-blooded murderers. Face it, ve're in this together, you can't afford to shoot me. Also, don't expect me to answer to Crewman, or give a fvadt about your rank. I am not Starfleet. I am an abled-bodied civilian who is villing to help in a time of crisis."

Sergei looked over to the Engineer with a slight scowl. "Jettison dead veight? Tell that to the injured and dying."
"Desperate times call for desperate measures, Mister. The needs of the many, and all that logical jazz."
"Then go and say it to them, Commander! Unless you're villing to back up your threats, don't make them. You aren't a murderer, and you never vant to be." Sergei replied, his temper flaring. "Now if you stop posturing in your tough-guy stance, maybe ve can get power so you von't have to jettison the 'dead weight' injured."
The engineer shook her head and opened a Jeffries tube access panel. "After you. that way I can shoot you if you run."
"Like I vould have anyvhere to go." Sergei snarled, stuffing his large frame into the tube and heading forward. "You vill have to tell me vhich vay, I don't know my vay around."
"Up. Until Deck 8."
Sergei got to the vertical junction and then started heading upwards. This was going to be a long day working with a potentially homicidal furry-face and a grumpy engineer with a phaser. Now if only they would give him a phaser. No, he didn't really need a phaser, want a phaser. That would be bad.

The pilot considered, for a moment, pulling the phaser at his side and firing it in the direction of the civilian once to show that he was not, in fact, joking with the man. While the Caitian was still toying with the idea Beckett and the man entered a Jeffries Tube and the pilot followed behind the two of them as they began to climb up towards deck eight. Dutifully, the pilot grabbed the ladder and started climbing behind them.

Sergei was panting slightly by the time he got to the eigth floor. He wasn't used to climbing up jefferies tubes, and remembered one of the many reasons why he had sworn never to think about joining Starfleet.
"Sounds like the Civvy needs some PT," K'ndry said dryly from behind Kendall.
Kendall came up just after the civilian. "Ah! Deck 8! Women's Lingerie! You OK there, Civvie? You're panting awfully hard."
Sergei grunted, "Last time I vent up multiple decks on a starship, I was twelve. I hated it then, I hate it now. Run, I can do that, but I hate ladders."
"There was a time when I'd have said something crude about that remark, Commander," K'ndry said, somehow hoisting himself into the deck eight Jeffries Tube with extraordinary grace, ignoring Sergei's remark entirely.
"But not now, Lieutenant." Kendall shook her head. "We have a salvage operation to run."
"No, the Borg have a way of reforming a man," the Caitian replied. "Where to?"
"Straight, approximately 30 meters, then left, 10 more meters, then right. That's the Aerowing docking hatch."
"I thought our job was to repair the impulse engines," K'ndry said. "What does the Aerowing docking hatch have to do with that?"
"Need parts, don't ve? She's already said it once. Aren't Marines suppose to pay attention to vhat their superiors say?" Sergei snarked, moving ahead.
"And Civvies don't pay attention to details, do they," the Caitian replied evenly. "I'm not a Marine. I'm fleet. As the most expendable person here, I vote that the Civvie does the most dangerous repairs. It is the logical thing," K'ndry said in a soft purr.
"Too damn bad this isn't a democracy. I outrank you." Kendall grunted. "He still does the dangerous work."
"Of course, make the person most likely to blow everything up do the most dangerous vork. Bloody brilliant." Sergei muttered under his breath.
Kendall chuckled grimly. "This guy's no fun..." she said to the Caitian pilot.
"Just remember if you mess up the Commander will kill you. Follow directions and you should do fine," K'ndry said. "As she has so ably pointed out, she is in charge here. And I wasn't joking when I made the remark about him being expendable," K'ndry was speaking in a very level tone, there was no hint of anger or malace. Merely that he was reciting the facts as they were. "He is much more expendable than either you or myself, just as I am more expendable than you are, Commander."
Sergei sighed, "Lieutenant, I'm dys-dyslexic. The last thing you vant to see is me dealing vith dangerous circuitry."
"'Dys-dyslexic'? In other words, normal?"
The Russian growled lightly, "Having fun, Commander?"
"Dyslexia is a learning disability, just because I'm not Terran doesn't mean I don't know that. It would not affect your ability to function," the pilot replied.
"Why, yes, I am. In fact, I'm having so much fun, I'm forgetting we might all die." The SCE Engineer put on a chipper smile ans disappeared into the Aerowing.
"Dyslexia also affects multiple things, including being able to tell your left from your right, and getting instructions backvards. Trust me vhen I say you don't vant me vorking on dangerous circuitry."
"I tend to think the liklihood of that is rather small, Commander. This is a Starfleet vessel, not a civilian one," K'ndry replied to Beckett. "And which of your Terran animals to I resemble, a cat or a dog," K'ndry asked Sergei.
"Cat...I used to have a cat, Mr. Bibbles high lord, no, lord high, ruler of evil respective minions of cat-kind..." He stopped, looking a little confused for a second. He got it wrong, he knew he got it wrong. "Or some such."
Kendall poked her head out the hatch. "Come on slowpokes! Time's a wastin'!"
Sergei sighed and headed into the Aerowing.
"As I thought, there is nothing wrong with you," K'ndry replied to Sergei. 'I would come and help but there is a large, out of shape Terran in my way," K'ndry called through the docking port. "Oh, now he's finally moving."
Sergei looked back at the furry thing and snarled. The Lieutenant had no idea what was wrong with him, but there was definitely something wrong with him.
"Easy there Civilian, or I'll stick a muzzle on you. Siddown and buckle up. Do you want me to give you the stewardess safety spiel?"
"Don't tempt me, Terran," K'ndry said, resting a paw on his holstered phaser. "You'd not be missed." Silently, the Caitian took up a seat in the very rear of the craft, where he could keep an eye on the civilian man.
"I didn't say anything!" Sergei barked as he sat down, "And no, I do not need the spiel safety." He said as he buckled up, then he paused, "Safety speil. And Lieutenant, your threats don't scare me. I've had more death threats in my life than you can comprehend."
"And I have faced death more times than you can count," K'ndry replied evenly.
"And do you think just because I don't wear your pretty little uniform and have a shiny phaser at my belt with a large tail stuck up my pole that I haven't faced death?" Sergei asked, growling. "Get over yourself."
"I don't think that you've not faced death," the Caitian replied. "You were found in the same place as myself, or so I would imagine. What I think, Terran, is that you are worthless. Until you prove yourself otherwise, I will assume you to be so."
Kendall growled herself. "Shaddup, or I might just take some... disciplinary action. Him," Kendall chucked her thumb at the Caitian. "Him, I can demote. You... well, I can't really demote a civilian, can I?
"No, you can't. Technically, you can't demote him either, just like you couldn't make me a crewman."
"The Civilian's right. Only the CO can take that action, Commander," K'ndry said. "Am I to be flying this shuttle? If so where are we headed?"
"I'm second officer of this boat. I have plenty of sway with the big boss. And no, Lieutenant, yer not flying. Nor am I."
K'ndry shrugged and buckled into the seat he'd appropriated, his eyes never leaving the seated form of Sergei. "Aye, sir."
"I think the actual pilot of this godforsaken mission might object too, Civilian. Back in your seat."
K'ndry glanced up towards the front of the shuttle and noticed that, just visible, there was a pilot already in the vessel. "My apologies," K'ndry called to the pilot. "I did not mean to try and take your job. I did not know a pilot had been provided."
Sergei leaned back and closed his eyes, waiting for them to go out. Hoping that the homicidal little furball didn't try anything while he wasn't looking. Although, after years in prison, his reflexes were sharp.
"It's OK sir" .Lucy called back as the Aerowing dropped out from under the Rainmaker's saucer section.
"Where are we headed," K'ndry called forward.
"An abandoned Wildcat..."
"Will we be needing EVA suits," the pilot asked.
Lucy shook her head, not that the thrown-together SCE team could see her. "Sensoprs indicate the atmo's safe. However, if you want 'em, they're aft."
"I have no wish to don an EVA suit unless I absolutely must," K'ndry answered.
"No hole for your tail?" Sergei asked, smirking slightly.
Kendall shrugged as she went to put one on. "Suit yourself Lieutenant. Not responsible for you when your lungs explode."
Sergei got up and headed to the back, also putting one on.
"Very perceptive, Terran, I do require a specially made EVA suit," K'ndry replied, not standing but moving in his seat to watch Sergei.
Sergei chuckled quietly. There was an odd level of satisfaction in knowing the furry thing would be uncomfortable in an EVA suit.
Kendall, who had never ben shy, stripped out of her uniform, and pulled on the specially-made EVA undergarment. "Sure you don't wanna cram your tail into one of these?"
"I would potentially endanger the mission. Not having my tail free would impair my sense of balance, Commander." As he spoke his eyes darted from Sergei to Kendall for the briefest of moments as she put on the EVA suit. He was still a male after all, even if he wasn't entertaining inappropriate thoughts. "This way I endanger only myself. I will have to trust in my tricorder."
Sergei pulled off his borrowed jacket, revealing a t-shirt with an ad for a Bajoran bar, and arms that were covered in prison tattoos. He then pulled on the EVA garments and the EVA's outersuit. "Doesn't that only impair your balance to that of roughly a Human's?"
"For one of my species it can be crippling," K'ndry replied. "I've seen first hand what it did to my brother before they gave him a ccybernetic prosthetic."
Kendall, meanwhile eyed the tatoos. "Hey, are those.... done by amateur artists?" They sure dudn't look like professional tattoos, more like spit-and-pencil jobs.
Sergei grunted, "Yes, amateur artists."
"Prison?" Kendall shook her head. "Sorry, none of my business."
At the mention of prison, the pilot's paw went to the holstered phaser.
Sergei didn't respond. There was no way he was going to admit it, not infront of the homicidal kitty from hades.
Kendall heard the Caitian reach for his phaser. "At ease, Lieutenant."
K'ndry's paw relaxed, though his eyes narrowed to slits as he regarded Sergei. "That would explain a lot," he said in a low tone.
"F-for the fact that I'm civilian? Or the fact that I'm d-dyslexic?" Sergei replied, his stutter coming back as his nerves started up again.
Kendall shook her head as she reached for a helmet, and tapped the controls to allow the EVA suit to adjust to her body fit. A hundred years ago, she would have neded to have a custom fitted suit. Now, thanks to the miracles of technoology, they were one size fits most.
"For the tattoos and for the dislike of authority and organized militaristic organizations," K'ndry replied.
"Most organizations are organized Lieutenant..." Kendall pointed out with a chuckle.
"But not that many are militaristic-style in authority," K'ndry said.
Sergei did the same once he was entirely into the suit. "Listen, fuzzball, I don't dislike Starfleet because of anything like that. And I have no problem vith authority, as long as they aren't pizdu."
"Standard? Please?"
"Uh..." Sergei tried to think of the best Standard equivalent. "Donkey whores..."
"Are you calling me a... donkey whore, Civilian?"
K'ndry rested his paw on his phaser. "Don't tempt me," he said evenly. "You've been warned not to call me fuzzball. You'll not be warned again. I'd also suggest against calling the commander names. Just a thought."
"No, I have no real problem vith you, aside from the fact that you vant to judge me, or kill me, before you know me. Fuzzbrain on the other hand..."Sergei then turned to the furry thing and smiled darkly, "And you told me not to call you Furry."
K'ndry drew the phaser and fired a stun blast at Sergei's feet. "The next one won't miss. You've been told how you may refer to me, Civilian. I'll not tolerate insubordination from the likes of you. There's no place for it in the present situation."
The Commander sighed. "Lieutenant! Stand the hell down, or I'll arrest your ass!" She growled and grabbed Sergei by the collar, and slammed him into the bulkhead. "As for you..."
K'ndry reholstered the phaser, extending his claws in the process and unbuckling his harness. He was more than ready to jump in should the commander look like she needed help.
Sergei snarled at the Commander, although he didn't resist. "You need to leash your pet, Commander, before he hurts himself. Insubordination doesn't matter here, in this area, ve're all important, and he doesn't care."
Kendall mentally laughed as she saw the cockpit door slide shut and lock. Lucy had obviously had enough of the shouting. "As for you. I'm sure we can track down what prison you came from, and the charges you were incarcerated on... it's not that difficult. Cooperate, and I might forget to do so. Clear?"
"You'll be very lucky if I forget to mention it to the CO though," K'ndry said evenly. "As ship's commanding officer he needs to know, Commander."
"I vas cooperating, the cat vasn't. I just vant to get this done, he vants to kill me. Do we see a problem?" Sergei replied, evenly. He might be the murderer, but he wasn't the homicidal one.
"You'll forget to mention it too Lieutenant, clear?"
"I never said I wanted to kill you. You came up with that on your own. I pointed out that you were the least important to fixing the ship and therefore expendable," K'ndry replied simply. "Those are the facts of your life, and I will not forget to mention it to the Captain, Commander. As the person in charge of ship's safety and making decisions he has a right to know that one of the people on his ship has been in prison. Furthermore, Commander, I don't think I should have to be the one to bring it up. As ship's second officer, you should regard it as your duty, with all due respect."
Kendall shook her head. "Not if Mister Civilian proves himself useful. As long as he's useful, we'll forget it. Once he stops being useful, however..."
"Actually, you did say you vanted to kill me. 'If you ever refer to me as furry again, I vill kill you. Do you understand?' That sounds like a death threat. And it's not the only one you've made."
Kendall slammed the civilian into the bulkhead again. "Shaddup!" She eyed the Caitian. "Is this clear?"
"I will be speaking with the Commanding Officer, Commander. And what you're talking about is blackmail... however, I will forget to look in the computer records to see if there are any outstanding bounties on the Civilian, sir."
Sergei rolled his eyes. He was the one everyone distrusted because he had a prison record, but he was by far the least violent person he had met on the ship. So much for Starfleet's spiel about evolved sensibility. "There are not any outstanding bounties on the Civilian." Sergei replied.
"I will also forget about mentioning your status to the Chief of Security," the pilot replied.
Kendall sighed and released Sergei. "Lieutenant R'Pas. Can I see you in the closet for a moment?" Kendall opened the door and waved the other oficer in.
"Commander, I'm flattered but I'm not looking for that right at the moment," K'ndry replied.
jlpicard00_12309: "Get. In. The. Closet."
Sergei sighed and leaned back against the bulkhead, crossing his arms over his chest. This Caitian was a problem.
K'ndry slid from his seat and passed Sergei before stepping into the closet. The Caitian made no move of aggression towards the man, aside from giving him the look. "Cozy in here, Commander. A few flowers, maybe a bed and a refresher, and this would be a nice little apartment."
Kendall let the door shut behind her. "Lieutenant, like it or not, we need the civilian. Mentioning his record might be counter-productive. And yes, it's blackmail, but it might be useful to keep this between us."
"I never said I'd spread rumors around the ship. But I will inform the CO. It must be done," K'ndry said simply. "Any possible threat to the safety of the ship and crew must be brought to the attention of the ships commanding officer."
"I've served with Captain Maturin for years... he... may not take that well."
"It is the Captain's responsibility to act on all information as he sees fit, Commander. You're always free to provide a full report of Sergei's actions on this mission and say wahtever you like. I will as well and I will be honest. But, the information must be known to the CO. You know it as well as I do," K'ndry answered.
Kendall sighed. "Fine. Let me tell him." Kendall lied. "He'll take it better from me."
"Commander, with all due respect, your actions have done nothing so far to inspire my trust," K'ndry said. "I will allow you three hours from our return to the Rainmaker to bring the information to Captain Maturin. If you haven't by then, I will."
Sergei stayed in the main part of the Aerowing, waiting. Juggling wrenches.
"If you tell the Captain, we lose any bargaining power we have with the man."
"Then he can be either incarcerated or shot," K'ndry replied. "A dark view, but these are dark times. If he pulls his weight and cuts the insubordinatory attitude then he'll have no more problems from me. You may even speak with Sergei and see if he is willing to speak with the Captain before I do. One way or another, Captain Maturin will have this information."
"Yes. These are dark times. The Rainmaker has less than 40 percent of her total crew. We're below what we need to operate safely. Every body helps. Even if they are felons."
"And the Captain knows this. You'll have to trust his judgement on the matter and add your own input to give him a complete picture of the Civilian. Just as I will," K'ndry replied. "But I trust him less than I trust you."
Kendall sighed, then smacked her forehead. "Hi! We're 'tarded!"
"I'm not familiar with that Terran colloquielism."
"Retarded. Do we even know for sure the man is a criminal? Have we seen any records?"
"Then I shall inform the Captain that the Civilian may be a criminal and that when you saw his tattoos your first thought went to prison," K'ndry said.
"No, you shan't. Get out, and send the civilian in."
"Yes, I shall Commander. "I will even inform the Captain that in bringing the information to him I am in direct violation of your standing orders to me," K'ndry replied. "You can throw me in the brig afterwards if you like." The Caitian brushed past Kendall and back out into the shuttle. "Commander Beckett wants a word with you, Sergei," the pilot said, using the man's name for the first time.
Sergei nodded, putting down the wrenches and headed into the closet. It was a bit tighter with him in it than with the cat. "Yes, ma'am?"
Kendall let the door shut again. "Here's the deal. COme clean with me, and I'll pass on a censored version to the Skipper. It's that, or the cat goes to the Captain."
The Caitian's ears remained perked up and pointed in the direction of the closet. From where he was sitting he could still catch about every third or fourth word that was said. More if they talked louder.
"You von't find a criminal record." Sergei replied, honestly.
"Then how'd you get the tattoos? And talk quieter, the Caitans have amazing ears."
Sergei leaned over to the Commander and whispered. "You vill not find a criminal record under the name Sergei Pablovinski."
"Then that's not your real name?:
"Vould I vant to tell you my real name if it vasn't?" Sergei asked in a low tone, raising an eyebrow.
"Like I said... come clean to me, and I pass on a censored version. Otherwise, I throw you to the cats."
"Cat." Sergei took a deep breath, then started in on the answer. "I, I, I k-k-k-killed my Uncle in d-defence of my sister vhen I vas eighteen."
"Escaped? Served your sentence? Paroled? Pardoned?"
"P-p-paroled, but with a d-dead PO in my shuttle, do y-you really think I was, uh, villing to um admit that? Especially since ev-everybody here seems homicidal."
"Why not just come clean with the Skipper when you came aboard? Why hide it?"
"Because my fvadt PO is dead in my shuttle! You know how that looks for someone who vas convicted of second degree murder?" Sergei replied in a harsh whisper. "The only things I've seen since I've gotten here are phasers and death threats. I don't vant to be shoved out an airlock because of my no good Uncle."
"Look, this idiot fighter jock is gonna go to the Captain with our suspicions of your tattoos. I can't stop him, I tried." Kendall sighed. "As soon as we get back to the ship, come with me to the Captain, and we'll tell him. It'll sound better coming from you."
"If he tries to kill me, Commander, I'm taking you vith me."
"He won't... at least I don't think he won't."
"... or screwing." Kendall opened the door and stepped back into the cabin.

Hawk had been helped out of the ship. They would soon be ready to leave but she was not very saw that she wanted to be left on a ship with 3 crazy she through Hawk was bad trying to do his job but those three where just shouting and firing at each other and she had never seen Beckett act like this not for all the 14 years she had been growing but on the ship.
She said down at the ship helm know that what they had just gone through does change people she remember when her dad lost part of his arm he was not the same for sometime, and there still was no word from her mum yet and see was getting worryed.
<Bridge>
"We are in place we have about 20% fuel left so if this don't work we are screwed" he said happy to be at last done at the helm. He had been wanting to get away from it for a long time.
His arm was heavy its power was starting to run low with it being damage when getting off the bridge if he don't change the power cell, if he has one charged then he was going have to remove it as it would be dead weight.
He wanted to get off the bridge and to deck 6 to start getting through the wreck, he needed to fine her she had been missing for to long and was starting to thing the worse but was still holding onto the little hope.
Just the a voice came over the comm badge =/\= There crazy =/\=
he tapped his =/\= What sorry you lost me there =/\=
=/\= Who ever those he crew are and i have not seen Beckett act like that =/\=
=/\= Don't think about it just think about your work, very one is stressed once we are out of this mess things will get better=/\= he wanted to sound as positve as he could even if he didn't realy think it him self the crew needed to feel some hope that was all as moral would be rock bottem but when things looked better then he was sore they things would get back to normal as best they could.
=/\= I will try...... any news =/\=
He knew what she meant he was still waiting he talked to the doc and she had not seen her come in yet =/\= No not but will let you know when i know =/\=
=/\= Ok well they are being quiet know so maybe they have stop fighting, hawk is waiting some where just out side for pick up he will not make it to sick bay will have to be carryed on a stretcher unless you get the lifts working =/\=
=/\= Ok i will let someone know but he may have to stay there for some time as there are people worse off but will get someone to check him when they can. you get back in one piece ok =/\=
=/\= I will don't worry=/\= the comm closed.
He had to get off the bridge he had to find Sarah he had to do something.
he looked to Estaban "Estaban if i am not needed i would like to start to help with the clean up" he used his 1st name as they had got close over the years and things have become relaxed over the years and at one ponit in did remember when they didn't use rank but this time it was diffecent and maybe he should start calling him captain again but hapit was hard to brake.

OFF: just let me know if you want to use lucy for anything and i can fill her blanks for ya she maybe an NPC but because of our chars she will be a bigger part of the ship then most normal NPCs.

Estaban nodded, "Go, and Jonathan, may you find her." he was under no illussion of who Phoenix was wanting to look for.
Estaban looked around the small bridge before walking up to Yesab. "Show me what you got so far." He asked, this man had been in the Brig and on his way to prison only hours ago, now he was truly part of the crew Estaban had to rely on to save his ship. "Légion étrangère" he said under his breath...

Dia was standing in the corridor, her eyes closed, focussing on her breathing, when her combadge chirped =^= Phoenix to Dia "We have one more incoming from the Aerowing he may have a broken leg just to give you a heads up," he paused for a second. "Has there been anything from deck 6 or from Sarah yet?"=^=
She didn't respond immediately. Deck 6, the crew quarters and science labs: gone, just like sickbay on deck 5. Dia hadn't seen the damage yet with her own eyes. It was all kind of blury to her. The first thing she remembered was when she woke up in the mess hall herself, surrounded by wounded and dieing people. She didn't remember much from what happened the days before, she didn't even remember how she got there in the first place. And after hearing from Helen, the nurse, how bad the damage was on the ship, Dia had gotten up and started to help out.
She knew it wasn't the wisest decision she made, and her headache agreed with that. Slowly opening her eyes, she turned and walked back into the mess hall and looked around to see if the marines where still there, who she had seen walking in before. She touched her combadge as she saw one of them talking to Helen. =^= Dia to Phoenix "I'm gonna send one of the marines to pick up that person from the Aerowing." She hesitated before she continued, "And no, sir, so far I haven't seen Sarah being brought in." =^=
She knew it wasn't the answer the XO wanted to hear, she hadn't seen anyone yet that normally worked in the science lab. Even from her own medical staff, she hadn't seen a person. It seemed that Helen and Dia were the only ones lucky to have been at a safer deck.
Dia walked towards the marines and asked them if they could help bringing the wounded person back from the Aerowing.

Estaban looked around the small bridge before walking up to Yesab. "Show me what you got so far." He asked, this man had been in the Brig and on his way to prison only hours ago, now he was truly part of the crew Estaban had to rely on to save his ship. "Légion étrangère" he said under his breath...
Yesab rolled his eyes as he was annoyed, not only did the Captain not listen to the man flying the ship, but now he is standing behind me, breathing down my neck for answeres. "As you can see, since you are reading over my shoulder. I found no sign of life, the warp core that you were so worried about is there and seems to be intact, though it has no power. The warp nacelles have been heavily damaged and one even looks twisted. Auxillary generators and emergency power is off although the batteries are fully charged. And that is all I have found so far."
Estaban straightend up as he relized that Yesab was right he was reading over the man's shoulder. "Sorry." Then he thought for a moment, "When was the last time you have eaten anything?"
"I don't remember, and besides, why do you care?"
Estaban polled the few others on the Bridge, the same answers through out... yesterday. He stepped over to the replicator and ordered up TKL rations for each of the Bridge crew, he passed them around, "It ain't much, hell it ain't even good but I can't have people passing out from hunger." He brought the last one to Yesab, "Here you are Doctor, thank-you for the information, it's the best news I have had all day."
"Oh your welcome I suppose." He said as he took the ration, then gestured "bon appetit." He said sarcasticly.
Estaban smiled a thin smile then sat down in the Captain's Chair and ripped into his own ration of gunk. He didn't taste it... fortunatly, as he swollowed it down to fast. Reading over the display of damages, confirmed deaths and wounded. They were in bad trouble. Then he got to the part where Astrometrics informed him that they we are near Bajor.
"Doctor, have you ever had any dealings near Bajor?" Estaban asked in a light tone.
"Oh no." Yesab lied calmly, "why, have you?"
Estaban grinned a bitter little grin. "Yes, once or twice, but I was hoping you might have something around that area that we could use, since we are only one light year from their sun."
"Something I could use.. um I mean you could use? Such as?"
Estaban's grin got bigger, "Yes, something you could use, I mean we all could use." Estabans voice lilted a bit with that then he continued in a serious tone. "Parts, replicator matirial, power generators, air. You know the things that keep people alive in the cold of space."
Yesab thought for a moment. "Well let's just say, what if, in theory, I might know of a place. I would be asking why you think... I would share it with you?"
"What do you want in return?" Estaban asked tiredly, he knew this would be the start of long nagotions.
"How about... my freedom when we are out of this mess, and out of Borg territory, as in a full pardon. I also would like a phaser, as you can see, this ship isn't safe. And thank goodness it's cold in here or the stench of dead bodies would be unbearable. I would like one of those little badges too. I would also like my own quarters, of my own choosing. So what do you say?"
Estaban looked Yesab over. "I can't promise the pardon, but if I can't get it, then I will let you go on a Federation controlled world. No to the phaser, you don't need one. The dead bodies are my crew, so treat them with a bit of respect. We can get you a comm badge, in fact it would be a good idea. Your own quarters... hmm, yes, quarters... conditionally, the quarters must not be occupied by living crewpersons at the time of choosing, in other words, you can't have my quarters. So?"
"Hmm, Federation controlled world? That means a possibility of me getting caught. I'm not happy with that, but, being the brilliant man that I am, I can see you need my assistance again. So, I will accept your counter offer. And I don't think I will have any problems choosing my quarters, there aren't many live peope left." Then he thought to himself, I can find my own phaser. "So?"
"Agreed." Estaban said, and held out his hand to shake, "Where is this cache?"
Yesab shook Estaban's hand. "This cache as you call it, is, on the border of the badlands, about four light years from Bajor. I can put the coordinates into the helm myself, just for you Captian." He said with a greasy sly smile.
Estaban just smiled back, "I wouldn't inconviniance you like that, you can just give them to our helmsman, as you know, we can't go there yet anyway."
Yesab chuckled, "Well you knew I had to try."
Estaban's smile broke out into a grin, "I would have worried about you if you hadn't."

Harry slowly headed back up to the bridge, she was no longer needed down in 'sickbay' and would be more in the way than anything. At least on the bridge she could try and work on some of the tactical systems whilst keeping an eye on Yesab, she was not happy about him being free and working on the ship but needs must. Afterall she may not trust Yeasb but she did trust Estaban, they had been through a lot since Harry had first joined the Rainmaker. From the way things were going they would go throug a hell of a lot more yet, she had always been told by her father that life was not meant to be easy but this was beyond even his expectations.
It took her a while to get back to the bridge as she took the jeferies tubes to conserve energy for the essential systems. She finally walked back onto the bridge and took up the tactical station again, then after a quick check of what was and wasn't working she ducked under the console and started to do what repairs she personally could.

WARNING: LONG POST
"So, did you two have a fun time in there," K'ndry asked as they exited the closet. "Remember, you've got a finite amount of time to talk to the Captain." The Caitian had already rebuckled himself into the seat he had been previously occupying.
"To tell him vhat? That I have tattoos? In Moscow you can get them for 5 slips of latinum on back-alleys."
"You know very well what I am referring to," K'ndry replied with a pointed glance at Commander Beckett. "And now, I assume you do as well Sergei." The Lieutenant nodded once in the direction of the civilian.
"Lieutenant, step off your high horse, and have a look around. We're.... well, we don't know where we are. The Borg are everywhere. For all we know, Earth is gone. Over half the Rainmaker's crew is dead or dying. We need every able-bodied person we can get our hands on. So what? The man has a few tattoos."
"And a sexy accent."
Kendall shot Sergei a wierd look, but said nothing.
"Commander, as the man responsible for the safety and well being of the crew, Captain Maturin as a right to know and we a duty to tell him. I'm not explaining myself again, I see the explanations fall on deaf ears."
"Well, I'll talk to the Captain, then..." Kendall feigned defeat. Sure, she'd talk to the Captain. She'd tell him that she saw the tattoos, said something about their resemblance to prison tattoos, and that this fury fighter pilot jumped to conclusions. Yeah. That would work.
"As will I."
Sergei sighed and shook his head.
Kendall clapped Sergei on the shoulder. "Relax Civilian, we have a nice brig."
"Are we there yet," K'ndry asked dryly.
"Yay, a nice brig, because a little tvit can't stop from jumping to conclusions because I'm not a high and tight squared avay officer."
"Because you're a possible threat," the Caitian replied.
"You're more of a threat than I am, you're armed."
"You have no idea," K'ndry replied in a low tone.
Kendall reached over and snatched the cat's phaser. "You can have it back when I decide you're not going to hurt the civilian."
"Exactly. So shut up about me being a threat to the ship."
"I'm never unarmed," K'ndry replied, holding up a clawed paw for effect before retracting his claws and offering a small tight grin. "So don't get any ideas, Sergei."
Kendall sighed and handed the phaser to Sergei. "Know how to use it? You have my permission to stun him if he does so much a breathe at you funny."
"I'll be sure to note this in my report," K'ndry said with a simple shrug.
Sergei looked at the weapon for several seconds, paling slightly. He didn't like weapons, not when he could avoid them. "N-no, I don't need one."
"Go ahead, Lieutenant. My report will note that you're a pompous ass who jumped to conclusions, and doesn't care to listen when the truth comes to light." She shrugged. The cat was starting to grate on her nerves.
"I'll be sure to note your reaction as well, Sergei. Perhaps I have misjudged you. Time will tell if it was a slight or great misjudgement," K'ndry said.
Kendall shrugged and took the phaser from Sergei. "your choice." She slid it into a second holster on her EVA suit.
Sergei nodded, some of his color returning slowly. He wasn't exactly a pacifist, but he tried to avoid situations where he was likely to do more harm than good. Having a phaser, around that cat, was a bad idea.
There was a thunk, and the comm channel opened. "Ma'am, sirs, we've docked." It was Lucy, in the still-locked cockpit.
"Sh-shall ve?"
"Get in, get out, get on with life."
"I believe we shall." Kendall slid her helmet on, and locked it, presurizing her suit, just in case. She reached over and pulled an Engineering kit from the bulkhead, and a phaser rifle and tricorder from a storage area. "Let's go."
K'ndry drew his tricorder and opened it. Before he went anywhere he'd be scanning ahead of time to make sure there was atmosphere. "Lead the way, Commander."
"Oh no. Cat. Yer the expendable one. After you."
"At least I'm not the expendable one..."
Without a question the Caitian moved to the airlock and scanned beyond it. Satisfied that the seal was good and there was atmosphere, the pilot opened the airlock and moved through it ahead of the other two.
Kendall bit her tongue to refrain from pointing out to Sergei that he was, in fact, more espendable than the cat. But he had less training. Instead, she just fell in step behind the Lieutenant.
Sergei moved in behind the Kendall, looking around carefully. He wasn't used to the EVA suit, so it was a little daunting going in.
"Where are we going to," K'ndry asked.
"Let's start with Engineering. Our first priority is powering the Rainmaker."
"Main Engineering it is then, which way would that be, Commander," K'ndry asked. "You engineers are supposed to have the specs memorized and all that."
Sergei chuckled, because he doubted it was true.
"Deck 10. We need to go down."
"Great. More ladders."
"It's two decks!"
"How vas I suppose to know vhat deck ve vere on?!"
"You weren't," K'ndry replied, moving to a Jeffries Tube Access and removing a hatch. "I hope you Terrans can keep up, these tubes aren't as much of a hinderance for my people as they are for yours."
"Shaddup and climb, Lieutenant."
Sergei was really glad that the Commander was now somewhat on his side and was going agains the Cat now.
"Aye," K'ndry replied. He placed the tricorder in his uniform pouch and set it to alert him if he was about to enter an area of vacuum. Quickly the pilot was into the tubes and moving at a very good clip, much faster than the humans. Coming to an acess ladder the Caitian began to scamper down it with amazing ease. "This would have been impossible for me to traverse in one of your Terran EVA suits," he called behind him.
"Bloody showoff..." Kendall muttered, as she took the ladder, a step at a time.
Sergei followed afterward, a little clumsily. He kept his eyes on the ladder and prayed he wouldn't fall.
"I heard that Commander. Don't blame me for your people's inherent clumsiness, just as I don't blame your people for being physically stronger than mine," K'ndry called from inside the deck ten tubes.
Sergei moved down, taking a deep breath as he did. Worse than that, he knew this was going to be a way of life from now on.
Quickly, the Caitian moved through the tubes. Finding an access hatch he dropped into the corridor and found himself standing just outside the entrance to Main Engineering.
"I'm just outside of Main Engineering and holding position," he called.
"Fast little bugger..."
Kendall shook her head. "And he'll brag about it too. Look, I owe you an apology... for jumping to conclusions..." Kendall knew the truth, obviously, but maybe if they put on a show for the Cat...
"It's alright, conclusions are rapmant in the Federation these days. If you aren't Fleet or Corps, you're scum. You're not the vorst."
"You know I can hear you," K'ndry called.
"So?"
"Just thougt I'd share, last thing I need is a superior officer accusing me to spying."
"Great, now he'll be bragging about his big ears too."
"And your big waist, Civilian. Common and move it."
Kendall poked her head through the hatch to Deck 10. "Tolerance, Lieutenant."
"My vaist is only a 38." Sergei replied as he go to the bottom of the ladder and followed the commander. "There is little fat on my body."
"You want tolerance go find a Counselor," K'ndry replied. "We have a job to do, let's get it done."
"So much for the whole bit of Starfleet being evolved and all that." Sergei muttered
Kendall sighed, as the trio walked into what was left of main engineering. "Do I have to seperate you two?"
"We're not having a fisticuff," K'ndry replied drily. "What's the first thing to be done?"
"Get a terminal running, so we csan check the status of the batteries, impulse reactors, and warp core."
"And then, tear everything apart like scavengers."
"Easy enough."
"Or transfer the crew of the Rainmaker here." Kendall shook her head. "If this ship's in better condition..."
Sergei looked around at a lot of components. Idly he wondered what they would get on the black market.
Kendall tapped a console and got emergency lights up and running. Looking up she gasped. "Oh... shit." Her hand reached for her phaser, and her tricorder. The upper level of engineering was lined with Borg alcoves.
Kendall tossed the hand phaser she had taken away from the Caitian back at him and reached for her tricorder
"Finally, something to do," the pilot grunted. He caught the phaser and moved to the upper level. "Do I have permission to fire, Commander," he asked drily.
"Uh," Sergei tried to swallow, but found his mouth quite dry. "I-I-I'll t-t-take a phaser now too, please..."
"They'er empty, dipshit!" Kendall took a scan of the area. "And my tricorder's not pickng up any Borg..." She handed the second hand phaser to Sergei.
"Here ya go. It's set to heavy stun. The button on the left vcontrols power setting, tap it repeatedly to get it up to kill. Push the big button to fire."
K'ndry tossed his phaser to Sergei. "Take it, I have claws and this," he grunted, drawing his survival knife from the small of his back.
"They may be empty, but it doesn't mean the ship is..."
"Well, care to go Borg-hunting, civilian, while I try and get some internal sensors running?"
"N-no-not particularly, I like to live."
"Request permission to search the ship and eliminate all threats with extreme prejudice, Commander," K'ndry said.
"Then stop quivering, and get over here and help me! Furry, denied. I need every hand... or paw, I can get right now. Our first priority is still the Rainmaker."
"You're running diagnostics, how're ve suppose to help?!"
K'ndry made a face of disgust. He would have preferred to go and kill the drones. Taking up position near Kendall he stood with his back to her and his face in the direction of Main Engineering to watch for threats.
"Easy. Follow instructions. Sergei, go to that panel there. No, not that one, left of it. Rip it open, there should be some isolinear chips inside.
Move chip three into empty slot six, and chip four into empty slot nine. That'll bypass at least 35 safeties."
"Lieutenant, in that J-tube." Kendall pointed, there's a primer handle. Pump it up and down fifty times. It'll prime the warp core ignition system."
"Right." Sergei moved over and ripped it up with some difficulty. "Move chip six into slot three and....four...into..."
"Aye," K'ndry replied, moving off to the Jeffries Tubes and entering, knife drawn.
"Four into nine!"
"And it was thre into six! Are you dyslexic?"
"Didn't ve already have a conversation about this?" Sergei asked as he moved three into six. "Four into nine? Right?"
With a swish of his tail, K'ndry disappeared into the Jeffries Tube. A few seconds later his paw was working the handle up and down. "One sir," he called. "Ten, sir... twenty-five, sir... fifty, sir..."
"Yes, it was a rhetorical question, and yes." Beckett, meanwhile, had her head in the dilithium chamber. "Crystals didn't degrade at all. This should be good...."
"OK, Furry, I need you down here.... you too Sergei."
Sergei moved over, closing the panel back. "Vhat?"
K'ndry reappeared from the Jeffries Tube and moved to the indicated spot. He stood and waited for further orders.
"It takes three swithes, pushed at the same time to cold-start the warp core. Lieutenant, yours is on the upper level."
"Aye," the Lieutenant replied. He placed the knife in his teeth and clenched it there tightly as he climbed the ladder to the upper level. "Just say the word," K'ndry called around the knife.
"I'm going to laugh if he cuts his lips doing that..."
"Sergei, yours is on that wall over there. It should be blinking yellow, and say 'Ready' It's an old fashioned push-button."
"The dull edge is the one against my face Commander, I am not a moron," K'ndry called.
"Except that you called me Commander, so you are a moron." Sergei replied as he jogged to the button.
"When the drones come, I am not saving you," K'ndry replied.
Kendall's finger hovered over her touch-sensitive panel. "On my mark: 3....2.....1.... mark." The engineers finger dropped to her panel
K'ndry pushed the button.
Sergei pushed the button as well. "Vhen the drones come, I'm throwing you to them."
"You won't have to, but if they get you I'll gut you personally," K'ndry called down. "And enjoy doing it."
There was a click, and a hum, and the warp core started glowing, followed by the familar throb.
The lights kicked on, and the air blowers could be heard. "Both of you, shaddup!" Kendall shook her head. "Seriously. Now we can run some sensor sweeps, Kitty, get on it."
"With pleasure," the Caitian replied, moving to the nearest sensor panel and firing it up beginning to run scans.
"Commander, I'm picking up a pair of drones on this deck. A great deal more are on the bridge and down in deflector control," K'ndry called. "Permission to deal with the immediate threat, commander."
Kendall sighed. "Fine, just don't get yourself killed."
"Commander, I vould recommend getting the hell out of here."
"Now now, Sergei! That's not the Starfleet way!"
"Stop being a coward," K'ndry called. Taking the knife in his paws he moved off out of main engineering. "I'll bring you back a souvenir, sweetie," he continued in a belittling tone.
"So the Starfleet vay is to turn into a drone? No vonder ve're losing the var!"
"Shaddup Sergei, as soon as the cat is outta here, I'll raise a security forcefield."
Sergei ran a hand through his hair, muttering under his breath before crossing himself.
"That won't stop them," K'ndry called all too cheerfully.
Kendall watched the Caitian leave engineering, then raised the forcefield. "Sergei, know how to run a level four diagnostic?"
"I could run most diagnostics on the Dying...Flying Dutchman."
K'ndry had gone into complete survival mode. His padded feet moved along the deck with almost no noise whatsoever. Sticking his nose up he sniffed and began to track the two drones. Happily, they were coming in his direction.
"Then run it. All systems, except the Borgified ones. I've isolated those."
Sergei nodded and started pushing buttons. The LCARS interface was different than the one on the Dutchman, which was a civilian shuttle, but it wasn't too hard to figure out.
As the drones neared, K'ndry readied himself. When the drones were quite near the Caitian appeared, seemingly from nowhere. "Something I can help you with," he hissed dangerously.
In less than the space of an eyeblink, the knife flashed out and buried itself in the first drone's throat. K'ndry smashed his forearm brutally into the face of the second drone. The still living Borg stumbled backwards.
K'ndry pivoted on his off foot and then planted the clawed foot squarely in the drone's chest. It toppled to the deck and K'ndry pounced.
His jaws locked around the drone's throat and he ripped back savagely. Blood spurted from the drone and splashed on the pilot's flight suit.
Sergei looked down at the console, watching the diagnostic.
Kendall meanwhile, ran a level three diagnostic on the warp core. It was the highest level fully-automated diagnostic she could run.
Long after the drone was dead, K'ndry sat there ripping at it with his claws.
Bits of blood and gore littered both of the bodies and was fair to covering the pilot. With a last savage snarl, K'ndry ripped the processors from the drones and headed back for main engineering.
A few minutes later the pilot entered Main Engineering. "Threat eliminated," he said in a flat tone. "I brought you some souvenirs, Commander." He placed the processors where Beckett could get at them.
"Th-that's just sick..."
"Ooo! I dun have a pocket, Kitty can you hold onto those til we get back to the ship?"
Sergei shook his head and muttered under his breath. Fleeters always were sick and twisted people.
"Done, any other bits you want," K'ndry asked with a wicked grin. "I'd be happy to perform surgery."
Sergei looked over at the cat. "You are insane, you know this, right?"
"I am the most sane person I know," K'ndry replied. "Are there any other parts you want, Commander," he asked, pocketing the processors.
Kendall shrugged. "Never know what could be useful. We'll just take 'em back to the ship with us."
"Vhat next?"
"Well, we can't get a salvage going with just the three of us..."
"Ve don't really vant to bring more over here, do ve? There are borg here! It's a miracle they haven't come to kill us all yet."
"Stop. Being. A. Coward," K'ndry snarled. "I won't let them rape you, if that's what you're so afraid of. Permission to continue the... hunt," he said to Beckett.
"It will ease the Civvies nerves if I deal with it. Sensors showed about twenty. Not a problem, Commander."
"No Lieutenant. One versus 20 is a bit much for my tastes."
"A covard? Try being practical. The Borg have been decimating the Federation for the past, vhat, fifteen years? You're out of your bloody mind!"
"They move like, what do you Terrans call them... zombies," K'ndry said in a low threatening tone. "They are no threat to me, not in this environment. And you are a coward."
"You are a mad man." Sergei replied, looking the cat in the eye.
"I get the job done, under any circumstances," K'ndry replied. "Being a pilot doesn't mean that I don't have training as a killer."
"And yer not going after twenty Borg, not with a knife."
"Doesn't mean you're any less of a madman either."
"I have claws and teeth too... and they're much more satisfying," K'ndry replied in a low, deadly tone.
Sergei shook his head, "Absolutely nucking futs."
"Fortunately, his immediate superior isn't 'nucking futs'. He ain't going by himself. Sergei, go with him."
"B-bbut, Commander!"
"Just because you are incapable does not mean we all are, and I don't have time to babysit. Nor am I inclined to, though the Borg will now view us as a threat since I dealt with those two."
"Does that replicator work," K'ndry asked.
"No buts Sergei! I'm going too. And yes, that replicator works. Only one on the ship that's activated."
"This is insanity, this is madness." Sergei replied, looking back and forth between the cat and the commander. "You vant to go with psycho kitty and take on 20 Borg?"
"Given the state of the computer core..." K'ndry trailed off and moved to the device. "Display bladed weapons."
A list of weapons popped up on the screen. "Come and choose your weapons, they're more effective after the drones adapt."
If they though Sergei had been pale when handed a phaser, it was nothing compared to his color now. "A...bladed veapon?" No, no, no, no. This couldn't be happening. Why was this happening?
Kendall chuckled and gave Sergei a nudge. "Go on. The sooner we get this dealt with, the sooner we can begin salvage operations. And if you get assimilated, I promise to kill you."
"Commander, recommend sending the Civilian back to the shuttle."
"He is not a soldier and while he may have done prison time, he's clearly not a killer," K'ndry continued. "Either that or allow me to go alone with a tricorder. I'm quite good at ambushing."
Sergei was hesitant to choose a bladed weapon, not even listening to the other two. Closing his eyes, he hit one of the options. He didn't want this, not this, a phaser okay, but not a blade...
Kendall glanced at Sergei. "He'll be fine." She replicated herself a betleH
Sergei stood, holding the weapon in his hand. It was a broad sword, he had used to fight with one, years ago, stolen from his Uncle's collection. But that was before... "Can ve just get this overvith?"
"Let's start with deflector control. We'll need the deflector dish for what I'm scheming"
"Who's in command of the combat op, Commander," K'ndry asked before they had even left Main Engineering. "I believe my experience outweighs your own."
"Don't start with that crap. I still outrank you. I say fall back, we fall back."
Sergei was silent, he didn't want to think.
"Am I to take point, Commander," K'ndry asked.
"Yes. You have those damned feline ears, and nose."
"Good," K'ndry purred. He brushed past the other two, tricorder in paw. "I recommend silence until we are through with deflector control.
I also recommend you two stay back and shoot, just don't hit me. I like being the bait," the pilot hissed.
"Vhatever..."
Kendall rolled her eyes. "Stop showing off, and let's saddle up."
"But....ve have no horses."
"Never mind.... let's go."
"I'm not showing off," K'ndry replied, moving out. "I am stating the facts." He moved off into the corridor, following the directions on the tricorder, which he had silenced. Scans had showed seven drones in deflector control and thirteen on the bridge.
Sergei followed quietly, wondering what it would be like to fight with a blade again. Aside from that one shiv at Aukland, he hadn't held a blade since the incident.
K'ndry came up to the deflector control doors. They were cracked slightly. He gestured that the other two should stand back as he crept forward and peered through the crack.
Stopping, he gestured that there were two on the left, two in front, and three on the left. Using hand gestures, he indicated that he would take the three on the left.
Sergei swallowed heavily, looking at the two to the front. He motioned that he would take them, although he wasn't sure how well he'd do.
Kendall figured it out, and moved slowly to the two on the right.
"You should be able to phaser yours with no problems," the pilot hissed. He held his knife in his paws and grinned wickedly, a semi-demented gleam coming to his eyes.
"Vhat if they're adapted?"
"They shouldn't be, I knifed my two," K'ndry replied in a very low tone. "More fun."
"Use the blade then." Kendall hissed. She had taken aim, and squeezed her trigger, hitting the first Borg suqarely in the chest.
Sergei held up his phaser and fired, resisting the urge to close his eyes. He changed the frequency, then fire again, all while muttering "They aren't human, they aren't alive..."
Kendall took aim at the second Borg, and fired, however this time, a forcefield sprang up.
"Shit..." she muttered, as she grabbed the betleH strapped to her back, and started swinging. A moment later, Kendall stopped, after severing the Borg's head.
K'ndry burst through the doors into deflector control. He chucked his knife at the first of his three. It buried itself up to the hilt in the drone's throat.
Leaping, the pilot drop-kicked the second and pushed off from the deck with his arms, popping back to his feet. As he returned to his feet, the pilot raked his claws across the third drone's throat before pouncing on the second.
In the space of an eyeblink, his jaws had torn out the throat of the third of his drones. Raising his head with narrowed eyes, K'ndry looked to check and see if any others were still living.
"Any left," he asked in a snarl. "Do you want their processors?"
Kendall chuckled. "We'll get 'em later. I suspect any Borg on the ship know we're here now."
"Great." Sergei said quietly, he just wanted to get out of there.
"Permission to deal with them," the pilot replied.
"We're all going again. Three against ten is better odds than one against ten"
"Better odds of all dying instead of just him dying..."
"Good, you can be the bait this time," K'ndry replied.
Sergei grumbled and crossed himself again. "I don't vant to die."
"Good, then shut up."
"Enough bickering you two. Let's go." Kendall slung the phaser rifle over over her shoulder and held her betlH in her right hand. "Bridge is all that's left?"
"According to sensor scans," K'ndry replied.
"How many?"
"Lucky thirteen," the pilot answered. "Scans detected twenty-two. We've killed nine, of which I have killed five."
"You and your goddamned bragging. Shaddup already."
"He can't help it, he's insane."
"I am a trained killer," the pilot replied. "And I enjoy killing the Borg. It's my number one hobby. We need to get to the bridge."
Kendall chuckled grimly as she stepped into a turbolift. "Think they'll expect us this way?"
"Doesn't it make a vooshing noise?"
"I think a two front attack," K'ndry replied. He moved to a computer terminal and pulled up a schematic. "You two from the trubolift. I'll come in here." He pointed to a place that wasn't big enough for a human to get into comfortably, especially if they were in EVA suits. "When you open fire, I will drop in from above."
"Fine. Let's go." Kendall was antsy. She hated fighting, but knew it was necessary
K'ndry turned left and disappeared into a Jeffries Tube, scampering away for his spot.
Kendall waited a minute, before ordering the 'lift to the main bridge.
Sergei took a deep breath as he went up the lift with the Commander. He didn't like this, not at all.
"I'm ready," the pilot hissed into his comm badge.
Kendall nodded. "Acknowledged" she said into her suit comm system. Arrival on the bridge in three, two... " she readied her rifle "one." The door hissed open, and Kendall let loose with a wide kill beam, then changed her frequency and set her beam for pencil-thin, so as not to hit the Caitian.
Sergei stayed back as the Commander fired. He didn't fight, but he would if he needed to.
K'ndry roared and kicked out the celing panel falling directly onto the back of a drone. Quick as a flash, he slit the drone's throat and was on his feet, moving for a second kill.
Kendall took aim at a drone that was still alive (she counted six on the floor, five from her initial wide blast, and one from the Caitian) and squeezed her trigger. No adaptation yet.
K'ndry pounced on another drone, bearing it to the floor. Savagely, he dug the knife deep into the drone's throat. If there was one thing you could count on, it was that the throat was always a vulnerable spot on a drone.
The engineer spun to her right and squeezed her trigger again. This time, a fircefield sprang up. "Shit! They've adapted!" She reached for the betlH strapped to her back.
Sergei stayed back, watching, holding his sword at the ready. He was still ghostly white, almost matching skintones with the Borg.
As the pilot was straightening up from his most recent kill he was lifted clean from the deck from behind by a drone. "Feeling frisky are we," he asked, kicking his legs up over his head and somersaulting backwards over the head of the drone. Placing his paws on the drone's head, the pilot wrenched his neck hard to the left. There was a crack like a whip and the drone collapsed to the deck.
Kendall swung around, and planted her Betleh squarely in the chest of an approaching drone. An assimilation tube shot out of his arm, which Kendall dodged as she pulled the BetleH out, and swung again, now lodging it in his throat.
"Throat's the best spot to hit 'em," the pilot called. He danced back a step and planted a foot in the chest of another drone.
Sergei finally moved as a Drone moved behind Kendall. He swung the sword hard, taking off the head.
"'bout time you joined us!" Kendall called, as she dodged and lopped off the head of the drone that the caitian had just pushed backwards
"Last one's mine," the pilot snarled. He dove into the final standing drone in a piledriver. Landing on the Borg's chest he began punching it in the face repeatedly. It's arm shot out to assimilate the pilot. Deftly, K'ndry hooked his arm inside the Borg's. "Assimilate this!" Using a combination of leverage and the Borg's own momentum the pilot showed the assimilation talons into the drone's throat.
"Nice touch" Kendall chuckled as she stepped over a drone to the tactical station. She entered a few commands, and brought the bridge back to full power. She ran a sensor sweep. "No drones left."
"We pilots like to do things with flare," K'ndry replied.
Sergei let his sword drop with a clank as he stared at the bodies. He knew they weren't alive, hadn't been alive, but it didn't really make it better. Not really.
The engineer shook her head, and opened a comm frequency. "Here's to hoping someone's capable of listening over there. I knoe the Rainmaker's transciever is fried. Away team to Rainmaker."
While Beckett was attempting to make contact with the Rainmaker K'ndry moved from drone to drone removing processors and, from the ones he'd killed, grisly trophies.
Sergei leaned against a bulkhead and closed his eyes. He didn't want to see it, he didn't want to think about it.
"There's a bathroom just off the bridge if you need to be sick, civvie," K'ndry purred, pointing in the direction of the door.
Kendall sighed as she scanned the Rainmaker. "They're not answering. I think we should send the Aerowing back. Of course this ship is in much better shape... anyone else think we should just swap ships?"
"I don't need to use the head." Sergei then opened his eyes and looked at Beckett. "No, the Borg have infested it already."
Kendal shrugged. "We can remove the Birg components a lot easier that we can nstall a new warp core, and a new nacelle:
MandarHobbit: "Beacons, don't they have beacons?"
"It's not the Borg hardware that worries me, it's the Borg software. It would take more time to remove the Borg technology from this vessel. Additionally, we do not know how they may have tampered with the computer core. I think it better to salvage what we need from this ship," K'ndry said.
"Which is almost the whole fricken ship... and I don't have a proper Engineering team."
"With all due respect, I think the first order of buisness is the warp core. After that we can take all the time we need since the Rainmaker will have an adaquate power supply," K'ndry said.
"For once, the cat is right." Sergei replied, "Let's get down to Engineering again."
"For the Rainmaker to get the warp core from here, we'd need to eject it, and the rainmaker needs to recover it. That's an awful lot for a ship with no power to do." Kendall sighed. "We can use the defelector to transfer power.... but that's about it. We need a drydock."
"Can't we tow the warp core with the Aerowing," K'ndry asked.
"But we can't install it without a tractor beam from the Rainmaker."
"Does the Rainmaker have a functioning tractor beam emitter," K'ndry asked.
"Yes. No power for it. Their batteries are dying."
"Then, the logical thing is to initiate a power transfer from this vessel to the Rainmaker. Once the transfer is complete we can then use the Rainmaker's tractor beam to install the warp core," K'ndry replied.
Sergei sat down, watching the two Fleeters argue.
"That's the hard way..." Kendall sighed. "Dammit. FIne, you win. Have the Aerowing go back, and tell whoever's running Enginering to prepare for a power transfer. We'll drain the emergency batteries from here."
"I suppose we could ask the Captain and let him decide," K'ndry replied.
"Fine. Let's do that..."
"So is someone staying here or are ve all going back?"
"Uh... furry is. I'm going to talk to the Captain myself."
"I will remain behind," K'ndry said, dropping into the helmsman's seat. "In fact," he continued, checking the board, "impulse engines are online. I believe I can pilot this vessel to the Rainmaker and we can use it's power to transfer the core. If that is Captain Maturin's decision."
"Works for me. Let's go Sergei."
K'ndry stuck his arms out, fingers interlaced and cracked his knuckles. "Been awhile since I piloted something this big," he muttered. Bringing the engines online, K'ndry brought the ship around and began taking it in the direction of the Rainmaker. "ETA rendezvous with Rainmaker, ten minutes," he said into the comm unit.
"Great. See you in a few..." Kendall leaned against the wall, and headed for there the aerowing had docked.

Hawk had been helped out of the ship. They would soon be ready to leave but she was not very saw that she wanted to be left on a ship with 3 crazy she through Hawk was bad trying to do his job but those three where just shouting and firing at each other and she had never seen Beckett act like this not for all the 14 years she had been growing but on the ship.
...
She knew it wasn't the wisest decision she made, and her headache agreed with that. Slowly opening her eyes, she turned and walked back into the mess hall and looked around to see if the marines where still there, who she had seen walking in before. She touched her combadge as she saw one of them talking to Helen. =^= Dia to Phoenix "I'm gonna send one of the marines to pick up that person from the Aerowing." She hesitated before she continued, "And no, sir, so far I haven't seen Sarah being brought in." =^=
...
Dia walked towards the marines and asked them if they could help bringing the wounded person back from the Aerowing.
"Yes Ma'am" the woman answered, then turned to the four Marines that were standing behind her and told off two of them to go to the Aerowing docking port and pick up the injured man there. Then she took the other two and headed out to augment the other five Marines that were trying to clear wreckage on deck seven.
...
Two Marines approached Hawk Rader, "I hear you have a bit of a bump, we are here to help you down to what is now our Sickbay." One of them said.
<tag Hawk>
They each took an arm and lifted him between them, almost lifting him off the deck completely. "Let's go."

After some rather awkward and even painful trips through the jeffrietubes and hallways they get back to the mess hall turned sickbay.
"Hey Doc, I say Doc, we got a new customer for you." One of the Marines called.

Yesab chuckled, "Well you knew I had to try."
Estaban's smile broke out into a grin, "I would have worried about you if you hadn't."
Harry finally walked back onto the bridge and took up the tactical station again, then after a quick check of what was and wasn't working she ducked under the console and started to do what repairs she personally could.
Yesab watched the Security woman who had secured him in the brig. She was on the Bridge now. He didn't like her, she was mean, but, she didn't like him either, he could tell. He got out of his chair at the Science console and walked over to where she was doing repairs. He then said to her in a sceptical tone, "I thought you were security. Estaban had been watching the Science board, he saw the Wildcat coming to the Rainmaker. He saw the Aerowing break off from it. He listened to Harry and Yesab trading barbs and he remembered his sister...
When she, and he, were young, she had collected old music, she had her favorites that she would play and one came to mind... he wished he could remember more then one line of it though.
Estaban turned to walk off the Bridge he called out, "Harry you have the conn." then sang the song quietly that had came to his mind.
"Love is in the air Hmm hmm mmm mm hm mmm" was all he could remember so he hummed the rest.

Estaban opened the ships hatch and waited impatiently for the Aerowing side to open.
Kendall waited for the pressure equalization light to illuminate, and the hit the control opening the airlock door. She had removed her helmet, but still wore the rest of her blood-spattered EVA suit.
Estaban looked over the Irish girl... no she had not been a girl for a while now, it still amazed him that she was so capable of taking care of herself. His Spanish upbringing said that a small woman should be taken care of, but over the years he had learned, usually the hard way, that Beckett was very capable of taking care of herself. He asked the question that was foremost on his mind. "What did you find? Can we use it?"
Kendall sighed. "Asides from a partial assimilation, the ship's in perfect shape. Warp core's up and running, fully-charged batteries, impulse engines are hot. I'd be tempted to switch ships, sir. I think it'll be easier to remove the Borg technology then repair us. Of course, that is your decision to make."
Estaban's first thought was "NO" he didn't want to abandon his Rainmaker, but... he did have to think of the crew... "Partial Assimilation? She has Borg in her? How far?
"
"Borg were present in main engineering, deflector control, and the main bridge."
me: had they taken control of the main computer yet?
Estaban had to weigh all the possibilities in the scale, if that ship could be de-Borged then it would be the ship to use. But if they had corrupted the core...
"Since the Wildcat-class is based upon the Intrepid-class, most of the technology should just plug in. We can transfer power for now, using the deflector dish, or a direct umbilical."
"Do you think it's safe to hard dock? We could keep our main computer out of the connection, and that would make it easier to transfer goods and power.
"The Caitian is over on the Wildcat, manning the helm. I think he can handle it, although I'd personally like to kill the bastard afterwards..."
"Problems?" Estaban asked.
"Sort of. I saw some tattoos on Sergei, and made a comment about how they resembled prison tattoos. He jumped to conclusions."
Estaban nodded, it was the same story all through the Federation, if you were able bodied and weren't part of the Fleet or Marines then you were a criminal. But Estaban also knew from past years that his SCE Team Leader would treat him like a mushroom if he didn't watch her closely. "Is there any truth to his conclusions?"
"Some." Kendall admitted. "I spoke with him privately. He was convicted of second-degree murder, for killing his uncle, in self-defense. He's out on parole."
"Felon, on parole... what else can we run into out here. Don't answer that! It might come true." Estaban mused half to himself. I will have to speak to him about it. But we can start doing something now. Estaban looked at Beckett. "I think I need to talk to this Sergei a bit more, did you bring him back, or is he still on the Wildcat too?"
"He's in the Aerowing,changing."
"Ok, you go and lay everything along for the hard dock, we will follow shortly."
Kendall nodded. "Aye sir." She started down the corridor. "Captain!" she called, as she stopped and turned around. "Have Lucy call the furry, and tell him the plan?"
Estaban nodded, "And don't let the main computers talk to each other till we find out what state the other core is in" he called back to her
"Gotcha." With that, she was off

Phoenix had made his way down the decks to 6 and had already tryed 2 ways of getting onto deck 6 but thye where blocked.
He was at the door of his last change of getting onto deck 6. He scaned just behind the door the area seamed clear. He tryed the door but it didn't shift.
He looked at the door standing in his way to the only chance he had in finding her and no dam door was going to stand in his way. With his bionic arm he made a fist and started to pucnh the door, at first not much was happeneing but after a few more hits it started to bend and he was soon through onto the deck.
He was the first one to be standing on this deck the repaire crews had not tryed to get onto it yet. The deck was a mess nothing lick the rest of the ship it had looked like deck 5 had fallen into it there was metal every where he could just about move where he was. He scaned the area again this time looking for life but with all the wreck he could only scan 5 metres a head of him.
There was a small gap, he moved a few things out of the way and he had space to fit throuh when he got throuh this area was not much better but there was space to move around and climb up to deck 5, he was not sure where about that would take him but he should let someone know maybe they could still find medical stuff working.
He was a door just hiding behide some of the rubble for any normal man it would of taken a few of them to move it but with his arm made it easyer to move. "Lab 1" he said out loud when he could read what was no the door. Not know what lab she was today he didn't know if this would be the place. He pulled the door open and looked into the room it was a mess there was still some fires in the room and a body. He was through the door before it was open all the way and it ripe his top he was climbing over the rubble but he could see that the body was not her he still made his way over. He was dead, there was nothing he could do now but keep looking.
He moved back out of the room this time opening the door more so he could get out better he spent the next 10mins trying to clear room for him to getting intot he next area with his arm making light work of it but he could't keep it up for long. he moved into the next area this time as he got his head through he could see a person half under the rubble but this time he could tell who it was with this he moved faster then he should of and once through the small hole fell in again.
"Sarah , sarah" he could crawing over to her and pulling off the rubble over her lower part of her body. She said nothing just lay there, he scaned her see was a live but only just here legs where smashed an arm was broke and she had internal bleeding. There was noting he could do he was no doctor he and he couldn't mover her. He didn't think he just acted.

"Vh-vhat vould you like to know about me?" Sergei asked as he got out of the EVA suit.
Estaban looked at the tattoos on Sergei's arms, "Maybe your history, Beckett has an annoying habit of protecting people."
Sergei paled slightly, "My past is nothing I'm proud of, Captain."
Estaban nodded again, "Sergei, I ran with street gangs in Madrid when I was young, I could have messed my self up very badly in the blink of an eye. I understand not being proud of your past."
Sergei sighed and sat down, running a hand through his hair. "My parents vere Starfleet, vhen the Dominion Var came, my siblings and I vere sent to live vith my Uncle in Russia."
Estaban swiveled a seat around and sat, his knee hurt abominably.
"My loving Uncle Yuri ran a brothel, he drank, he had vomen vith him all the time, he vas physically and verbally abusive. Still, it vas only one var, right? Vhen the var ended, my mother was dead and my father was in an insane asylum, for nearly two years."
Estaban cut to the chase, "You had to do it? You had no choice?" he knew where it was going.
Sergei stopped, looking at the Captain. "I have a sister, a younger sister. Ken and Nick had gotten into Starfleet vhen the Borg var started and ve vere sent back to Russia. I spent my life, every vaking moment making sure she didn't get the same abuse I got. Making sure she had a chance at a normal life. Then I turned eighteen, and Uncle Yuri vanted me out."
Sergei stood up and started pacing, running both hands through his hair. "I-I-I couldn't, couldn't just leave her there, not vith that m-monster! But he vas her guardian, and I vas just a disturbed kid, I couldn't take her vith me. So, I fought vith him, argued vith him. I had to stay! One day, in the heat of the argument..." The man's voice trailed off as he stared into space.
Estaban shook his head, not in disgust or in disappointment, but in the shame of it all. "How long did you spend in prison? And did you serve out your time?"
"Four years, got paroled early because of the conflict. Needed prison guards as front-line soldiers, so they let a lot of people out."
Estaban shook his head again, that was another wrinkle in the bed sheets. "I can't bring you into Starfleet, not under those conditions." He looked the young man over very closely before asking, "Sergei, are you willing to trust me?"
"Vhat choice do I have? I'm on your ship, vith a psychotic homicidal furry thing vho vants to kill me..."
Estaban stood up and stepped in front of Sergei. He then propped his sword on the chair beside him. "Sergei, kneel" he said pointing to the deck in front of him.
Sergei was hesitant about kneeling. He looked around for a moment, then knelt.
Estaban reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring, the face was a complex symbol, a seal of some sort. As his eye gazed on it he remembered…
[Maturin Estates, Earth, Deathbed of Don Erineo Maturin y de Menova]
"You are the Lord of the Manor now; it's what you have wanted… (Long drawn out spasming cough) … I wish it would mean you would stay home now." Erineo gasped.
Estaban held the ring, a ring made to imprint the family coat of arms on a wax seal. He of course had seen the ring many times, his father had carried it till his stroke had left him unable to take care of the estates, and now his older brother had stuck to the traditions of the old way and was passing it to him.
"Neo, I didn't want it like this…." Estaban had protested.
[Aerowing, present]
Estaban held out the ring to Sergei, "Take this ring, it is a mark of Royalty, and has been blessed by two different Popes. Kiss the face of it, and then clasp it between both of your hands in front of you."
Sergei stared at Estaban for a minute, wondering what exactly was going on. As long as there was no ritualistic animal sacrifice, or virgin sacrifice for that matter, it was probably okay. He took the ring and kissed it, then held it in his hands.
Estaban wrapped his hands over Sergei's, he hoped he remembered the whole tradition. "Sergei, as long as I have the Lordship of the Maturin Estates, I give you a fea for your loyalty to me. Your fea will be 3.6 meters by 3 meters in size, its name and location is third guest bedroom of the Maturin main house. You may live on your fia, or keep any income earned by it. I also promise you my protection and maintenance during my time as Lord. To this I swear."
"Now, you must swear this; I promise to be faithful to my lord, never cause him harm and will observe my homage to him completely against all persons in good faith and without deceit. Swear it."
There was another slight hesitation. "I pr-promise to be faithful to my lord, ne-nerver cause him, uh, harm and vill observe my homage to him completely against all p-p-persons vithout deciet and...ah, sranje, vithout deciet and in good faith...."
Estaban let go of Sergei's hands, then held his out. "The ring please, my friend."
Sergei handed the ring back to Estaban and looked up. "Um...what's a fea?"
Estaban pocketed the ring "A fea is a holding, property or something of value. I have given you the third guest bedroom in my house, which my sister has rented out, so the moneys earned for now on will be yours, and when we return the room is yours, to continue to lease or to live in yourself." Then Estaban took his sword from the chair, drawing it out of the scabbard, and placing the flat of the blade on Sergei's shoulder. "As long as you are my vassal, you only have one name… it is Sergei. And your history does not extend beyond this day." The sword lifted then slid back into its scabbard with a rasp. Estaban held out his hand to Sergei, "Rise my trusted friend."
"Vassal..." Sergei looked a little confused, "As in lord liege and middle ages?"
"Yes, as in just that. When one system can not work, I will go with an even older one. You are under my protection, as long as you are loyal to me, I shall be loyal to you, any insult to you is a direct insult to me. which reminds me. If you are going to protect my interests…" Estaban unbelted his phaser III and its holster from his hip and held it out to Sergei. "You will need to be armed, take my personal weapon, may it serve as a protection and a badge of your position."
"I-I-I..." Sergei looked at the phaser, paling, "I don't... I don't like veapons..."
Estaban nodded, re belting his phaser, then unpinning his comm badge he reached out and pinned it on Sergei's chest. "A badge of honor. I am lawful lord of the Maturin Estates my family have been the lords of the manor dating back to ancient times. I had to learn that ceremony as a child since it is still a valid tradition for our family."
"Ah, tradition... Does this mean the cat von't kill me now?"
"If he does, I will have a new fur cape..." Estaban smiled. "By tradition, you are my counselor, and trusted right hand."
"Counselor? I'm not a psychologist..."
"Counselor, as in counsel of war." Estaban looked him over. "One I would ask the opinion of when I am making a decision."
"Oh. I can help vith some things, here and there, but..." Sergei shrugged, he wasn't very educated, he wasn't a Fleeter.
Then Estaban came back to the here and now as he hear the ship connect with another.
"You just do what you can, You are not in the chain of command, If I order it, it is law, Phoenix the Commander, my XO, and Beckett whom you have met, are my Deputy's, if they order you to do something then assume it came from me. Anyone else can ask something of you, do what is right, but you are not under compulsion to follow their orders."
Sergei nodded, "Okay, and any problems I have vith people, tell you?"
"Yes, that is if you feel you can not take care of it yourself, like say they are armed to the teeth." Estaban smiled, he knew of one Caitation that carried teeth, claws, and a phaser... "Now Sergei, Report to Beckett at the Main Hatch, that's the very front of the ship, she is going to need every hand for the salvage work."
Sergei nodded, "Yes, sir." He straightened for a second, then headed out of the Aerowing to go find Beckett.
Estaban tapped his chest to order ship-wide, but his badge was not there. "Guess Yesab isn't the only one that needs a badge" he muttered to himself as he went to the main comm of the Aerowing. =/\= All hands, this is the Captain, anyone that is able bodied report to the main hatchway. We got work to do.=/\=

[Airlock - Wildcat]
As the pressure in the airlocks equalized the airlock doors of the Wildcat rolled back to reveal the work crew that was coming in to strip the other ship of all its useful bits and bobs for carting back to Rainmaker and repairing the other ship. "Welcome to my vessel. Please help yourself to anything you see that can be used to repair the Rainmaker. Do not touch the personal affects of the deceased crew."

He was not sure what the Captain would do a trasport would drain the power a lot but they had the wildcat ship close by so he was hoping that he would run the risk of doing it. Just then he felt the trasporter.
He beamed Sarah and Phoenix from deck six to the make shift infirmary that Dia had been working in. He didn't have fine control, he could not find an empty bed to put her in so he just found an empty spot of floor and put them there.
He found him self in the middle of the sick, injured and dead. All he could do was stay there with his love and call out over the many voice in the room.
"I NEED A DOCTOR NOW!!" he shouted as loud as he could.

After some rather awkward and even painful trips through the jeffrietubes and hallways they get back to the mess hall turned sickbay.
"Hey Doc, I say Doc, we got a new customer for you." One of the Marines called.
<tag Dia and Hawk>
Dia looked up to the marine that was calling out to her. Only to see that they brought in another patient. It seemed the flow of injured people never stopped. She'd never be able to go on a tour, to try to retrieve the much needed medicines. Still, she was grateful for every piece of equipment and meds the marines found and brought back to the mess hall, even if it was few.
Slowly looking around Dia found an empty place on one of the temporary setup beds closeby, as she pointed towards it, "Place him over there, I'll be there in a moment." She turned back to her current patient. Patient wasn't the right word anymore. Slowly she put the scanner back in the medical tricorder and then closed the eyes of the now dead lieutenant on the bed. His internal bleedings had been too massive and without a proper working sickbay she was unable to help him. All she wanted to do was scream and run out of the messhall. But that wasn't an option. She'd probably drop down before reaching the door anyway.
Standing up carefully, she walked over towards the man they just brought in. Dia didn't recognize his face. Still it didn't matter much, he needed help. Already scanning the man she turned towards the marine that was still standing there. "Could you take the Lieutenant *she pointed towards the place were she stood before* to the cargobay, please? I'm afraid he didn't make it."
"Looks, like you're in a better shape, sir. Do you feel any headache, nausea?" She asked the man.
<tag Hawk>
Dia looked around to see if she could find Helen somewhere. Helen who was helping an ensign closeby was already approaching. She'd been working close with Dia for years, she knew if the doc needed help even without asking. "Can you hold him down, I'll need to set his leg first." Helen nodded and held the men down by his shoulders.
Dia turned back to the man, "I'll need to set your leg first, it's been broken. After that I'll have to set it in a splint to prevent the bones from moving place again. Just bite on your teeth for a moment, I'll count to three."
Gently taken the man's foot she started counted. At the count of two however she manipulated the foot and the bones were back in place. Dia had a hard time trying not to scream herself, her shoulder was throbbing, and this last maneuver made things worse. Ignoring the pain she scanned the man's leg and was happy with the result.
Helen let go of the man, went to get something from aside another bed and give a dented object to Dia. "Dented but it's still working. One of the marines brought it in earlier. I already helped out a few broken arms and legs with it."
Dia looked at the osteogenic stimulator that was in her hands now and she managed to smile, "At least that's a start." Before Dia could do anything else she heard someone shouting.
"I NEED A DOCTOR NOW!!" Phoenix shouted as loud as he could.
Dia give the device back to Helen, "You can do the rest, I'll come back to check up on him later." With that she stood up and went towards Phoenix.

Estaban stepped through the airlock, the steady stream of people carrying equipment and supplies reminded him of ants. And the lighting, air, and heat in the Rainmaker, since she was pulling power from the Wildcat made things feel not near as bad as they had.
But the holiday atmosphere of a ship gorging herself, did not bleed into the Captain of that ship. He knew that the destruction of a Borg vessel, even the partial cube that had been blown up, would be a pin in the map of the Borg, someone would be dispatched to find out who did it and to kill them. If they had assimilated the Bridge, and Engineering, they had got to the computer core, even now it might be telling the Borg what they were doing.
They were on a dead-line, dead being the operative word. He had to make sure that the thing they needed most was gotten first, and they had to get out as soon as they could. He had to find Beckett, where was that blasted woman? One of the first things he had done when the power washed over the ship was to replicate a new badge. He tried it out. "Estaban to Beckett" =/\= What is your location? We need to get that Warp Core, and we need it yesterday. =/\=

Her commbadge chirped, and she heard Estaban's voice. What is your location? We need to get that Warp Core, and we need it yesterday.
"I'm in Engineering, trying to get the ejection systems working properly. Kinda hard to plug in a warp core when it'll just fall out again, no?"

Mess Hall
Approaching Phoenix, Dia recognized the person he was holding. Dia got to know Sarah well as they often worked together. A quick glance over Sarah's body didn't give Dia much hope. She walked towards one of the tables that had some supplies on it and came back with a tray. She dropped on her knees and scanned the almost lifeless body, she only got confirmation from what she already had seen on first sight. Yet she couldn't give up without at least trying.
Sarah's legs were a mess. The only thing she could do for now was to try to stop the bleeding as much as possible. Dia couldn't believe it was only a few hours ago that Helen taught her how to use a needle and thread to close up wounds and if needed some of the bigger arteries, though that was a precision job. It made Dia wonder why Helen stayed a nurse and never went for her doctor's title.
After some time she tried setting Sarah's broken arm. The other internal bleedings however were too severe. Dia was scared if she would go in she wouldn't be able to stop the bleeding at all, not with the basic equipment she had now. She looked at Sarah's pale face. The woman was still breathing and her heart was still beating but for how long? Dia took her tricorder again and looked at the readings after having another scan.
She looked up from her tricorder and saw the look on Phoenix' face. Dia quietly shoke her head, swallowed and hardly managed to say, "I'm sorry Phoenix, she's lost too much blood. That's all I can do for now." She waited a moment and there was a break in her voice as she continued, "I think it's time you said goodbye to her."
<tag Phoenix>
Dia slowly got up and walked away to give Phoenix some time alone with Sarah. Dia was done. The patchjob, there was no other name for it, took the last of her energy and spirit. She clinched to the tricorder that was in her right hand, raised her arm and threw the thing in a corner. Pieces of the device scattered around. As the pieces flew through the air a few of the people had to duck and started to protest but Dia didn't hear or see it.
What's the use of the bloody device, the only thing it said was that someone was dieing or was dead. She'd seen enough. Slowly she walked behind the counter on the side of the messhall and sat down with her back against the counter. It was the only place in the room where no-one was laying or sitting. Pulling up her legs, she put her leftarm on her knees. Her previous outburst made her right arm and shoulder useless, yet she didn't care anymore.
She stared at the wall, she kept seeing Sarah's pale face in front of her. Dia took a deep breath and swallowed. She just sat there, closed her eyes and rested her head on her arm. It didn't help, she kept seeing Sarah's face, followed by the lieutenant's and all the other people that passed away these last days. Some of them, she'd only talked to once a year during their medical, others she met more often and some had become friends over the years she served on the ship. And now most of them were gone. Just like that. And she couldn't help them. In her mind she saw the faces of every single one of them, and in between she saw her own face.

This was not wanted to hear but he could find the words to use. he sat there with her holding her hand that was not broken and stroking hear hair with his metal hand he didn't want her to leave him not like this not in this way. he had wanted them to grow old together and live out there last years on earth. now she would never see it again and he will never hear her voice again.
He was trying to remember what the last words he said he had said to her before all this mess had started but in had a good day or so since they had last spocken because there departments never normaly talked. He felt a hand on his shoulder, it was lucy she was standing there she looked like she had be crawling through rubble but that didn't matter.
She knelt down beside him, he didn't have to say anything to her his face said all that she needed to know they sat there in silance and just let the world past by.
He was not use to this sitting here not doing nothing on the bridge there was always somthing that could be done no matter how impossible it sound and he was use to that not just sitting and waiting, waiting for the end.

As soon as the captain was safely out of ear-shot Yesab walked over to Harry. "The captain has made me part of the crew now, what do you think of that?" He asked tauntingly.
Harry glared at Yesab for a moment before answering, "I think that the first time you mess up you are mine, and this time you may just find yourself on the wrong side of the airlock doors when they open." she said in a deseptively soft tone.

While the rest of the engineering crews were busy with the ship's systems and destroying K'ndry's first and only starship command (technically) the pilot busied himself with paying attention to each of the drones that had been killed. With a sort of demented glee he began taking them apart, bit by bit, systematically, and salvaging any bits of hardware that might be useful in some way shape or form.

Harry was shocked, "Why blow her up Boss can't we scavenge parts from her?" she asked

We will keep stripping her till the last minute, but when we run, I want to blow her up behind us to hid our escape route."
"Ok consider it done, I will set it up now and then we can blow her on your order." she said with a slight frown she didn't like having to blow her up but need must these days.
Estaban nodded, then placing a hand on Harry's shoulder. "Thank-you, I know you will do a good job of it. That's why I trust you with this job."
"That and you know no-one else is crazy enough to play with that stuff, well not anyone that has nothing to lose anyway." she said as she placed her hand on top of his briefly then headed into the Wildcat.

[Main Engineering - Wildcat]
K'ndry sat at the situation table in Main Engineering patiently plugging Borg central processors into the tricorder which was linked back into the table. He was cycling through the processors looking for any information that might be useful from a tactical standpoint. Ship deployments, troop strengths, Borg estimates of Federation strength, anything that might be useful. It was a semi-time consuming activity and largely boring. As he was cycling through the last of them, the pilot yawned loudly. There really wasn't much to do, for him. He'd already seen to transferring all the useable materials from the hanger on the ship, which included two completely functional Valkyrie-class fighters and one Redemption-class fighter bomber.
As K'ndry sat there, scrolling through the orders and files that the drone had received. Looked to be mostly the same thing as every other drone had received. Suddenly, the Caitian leaned forward in his seat and peered intently at the tricorder. Snapping the device closed, K'ndry bolted from Main Engineering, tapping his comm badge. "R'pas to Maturin, please respond, urgent," he snapped in a no nonsense tone.

K'ndry produced a PADD and hooked it into the tricorder. "That's better, look at this, sir," he said pointing at a series of commands that the drone had received through its processor. Estaban scanned over the information. "Yes, that is what I feared, very good, thank-you for bringing this to me. Do you know if Beckett has moved the core yet? If not can you have it ready to go?"
"The ejection system on this vessel is in perfect working order, sir. After the going over that the Rainmaker's crew has given it, it's one of the only systems that is. All she has to do is give the order, I push the button, and we're good to go. As far as I know, the core has not been moved yet," K'ndry replied crisply.
"I have a feeling we are not going to have all the time I was even hoping for..." Estaban looked nervously at the blanked out screen then at the PADD with the Borg information. "Before they come looking for us."
"Not probable, sir," the pilot trailed off for a split second. "Request permission to remote rig the salvaged fighters and my own into a one man remote controlled system, sir."
(tag Maturin)
"I can program a control system that I can operate from my own Valkyrie, sir. If I take some of the anti-matter from this ship I should be able to turn the salvaged fighters and my own into rather impressive guided munitions. If you were to deploy such a weapon I believe I could buy enough time for the Rainmaker to escape, by sacrificing myself," K'ndry continued. "As the Vulcans say, the needs of the many..."

Estaban's reaction was immediate, he cut off the last of the Vulcan proverb. "Require us to keep our assets in our possession. Permission denied."
He looked hard at K'ndry. "Look, I understand the need to show yourself the bravest, and best. Willing to die for the cause. I am going to ask you to do something even harder... live for the cause. Get your bird repaired, tie the others in for remote control. But no antimatter, no throwing yourself at the enemy to buy time for everyone else. No dying nobly to save others. I have other plans."

K'ndry nodded and changed tacks quickly. There was always a secondary plan to be proposed if the best, and therefore primary, plan was rejected by the powers that be. "In that case, sir, I request permission to outfit the three spares with full-sized torpedo munitions from this vessel," the pilot said. "I will can handle the refit myself. Full size will add punch, at the cost of carrying capacity. I will also require two pilots, in addition to myself, to remotely pilot the three fighters. Being the best fighter pilot you possess, I would recommend that I remotely fly the one Redemption we have. I believe that the pilot that ferried myself, Beckett, and the civilian here would be a logical choice for remotely controlling one of the fighters. I seem to recall her name being Lucy. As for the final remote pilot, I'm unfamiliar with the crew, though I assume you have another person up to the task. Am I to execute these orders, sir?"

Estaban thought for a moment, he had to weigh the plan against the new information.
"No, not now, I have a different job for you... Have you met Lt. Commander Harry Chant yet? She is on this ship preparing a back-up plan for me. She could use some help, I'm sure. Contact her and see what you can do to help her out." Estaban said with a slow deep thought, he had to balance his assets for the best advantage.

K'ndry did not agree with the orders he was given, that much was apparent. Still he would comply with them without complaint. It was not his place to question orders he was given unless he was certain that he was right rather than just feeling he was right. "Aye, sir. There was one more thing that I wished to discuss with you, while I have a spare moment," K'ndry said in a dry tone.

"The civilian, Sergei. I believe he may have a criminal record and pose a possible threat to the crew. By informing you of this information, it is my duty to also inform you that I am in direct violation of standing orders from Lieutenant Commander Beckett. I do not know if she has brought this information to your attention yet or not, however I feel as ship's commanding officer it is in your best interest to have all available information on all crew members, Starfleet or otherwise. You must, in my opinion, have this information in order to make the most informed decisions concerning the safety and well being of the ship and crew. I have ascertained the whole story and he is now under my protection. I also see no reason to punish you for giving me the information I need to best take care of my ship and her crew." K'ndry nodded and spun on his heel, exiting the computer control room. Once he had exited the area where the Captain was working he called up the sensors to ascertain the location of Lieutenant Commander Chant. A few minutes later, the pilot had succeeded in tracking down the woman. "Lieutenant Commander Chant," he asked, standing behind the woman. "Lieutenant K'ndry R'pas. Estaban smiled, "I don't expect anything of the like. But I do expect you to lay off him and never again mention his past. Like the Borg say, it's irrelevant. Now I got to finish what I'm doing and you have a job to do."
K'ndry nodded and spun on his heel, exiting the computer control room.
Estaban waited till he had left then picked up a PADD, he downloaded the sealed orders, and ship's logs onto it. Then he laid it on the floor unsheathing his sword he set the point on the input/output interface, he held the pommel in one hand and hit it with the other, driving the tip through the interface module. Re sheathing his épée in it's scabbard then picking up the PADD. He had effectively made it a stand alone device, and with the Borg virus in it, that was the only way he would have it on his ship.
Estaban headed back to the Rainmaker, he had business to take care of...
==== several minutes later ====
Estaban walked into the Oasis, the sick and wounded were still strewn about, but it seemed like less were there. Either dead, or up and moving. But he could not find Dia. When he saw Phoenix and Lucy sitting by Sarah, he recognized death, he placed a hand on both of their shoulders and said a quiet "I'm sorry" willing some of his strength to them both.
<tag Phoenix>
He went on to others in the room, crewmates, friends, people he has known for years, others that he has known only for a short time.
As Estaban walked up to the bar he saw his bet'leH hanging on the wall, Dugert had insisted it be hung there after Estaban had placed in a bet'leH tournament. If he had refused and kept it in his readyroom...
Estaban walked around the back of the bar and found Dia, when he realized who it was he squatted down on his right leg, his left having to remain more or less straight laying his sword down he balanced that way and lifted her chin so he could look in her eyes. Estaban remembered when she first came aboard, she was so young, he could not remember being that young even when he first saw her, now, now it seemed forever ago.
"What is wrong? Are you hurt?"

"If I didn't care about that ship and it's crew then I would not be bothered about making sure this bomb works correctly, I would only care that it worked at all. I want this to take out this ship and as many of the Borg as possible but to leave us untouched, but if you find it easier to go through whats left of your life feeling nothing then thats fine by me. You only ever cared for yourself anyway." she replied as she walked away from him again.
"And the truth just set you free," K'ndry muttered, loud enough for Harriet to hear him. "Trigger's done, what now?"
"Now you connect it to those containers and we get out of here." she said as she fixed the last one in place and then stood back to watch him work.
K'ndry moved forward and connected the triggering mechanism, as he had been ordered to do by Harriet and then stepped back. "Do you require any further assistance," he asked dryly. "Or do you merely wish to further berate me for up and leaving you?"
"I have not berated you, I have simply answered your questions. No there is nothing else for you to do here, go back to your hangar and play with your fighter." she said as she checked over thier work to ensure it was correctly connected, it had to work first time as there would be no second chance.
"Perhaps not, but you've been decidedly snippy," K'ndry replied, turning to leave. "My standoffishness is a result of your own."
"I have no reason to even try and get back what we had, you have made yourself quiet clear. You now treat everyone with the same cold distain and thoughtlessness as a Vulcan, you have turned yourself into a robot. Do not blame me for that, I am cold because there is only this ship and crew left for me." she replied and walked out of the room heading for the hatch to get off this piece of space junk.
"I have turned myself into a more effective weapon than you, Commander," the pilot hissed softly, catching up to the woman. "Could the old K'ndry do half the things I can? Like make a bomb?"
"I do not know it was not a subject we ever discussed, though if the choice was mine I would rather of died back then than to see what has become of everything I knew and everyone I loved." she stated as she continued to walk.
"Good for you, I would rather kill those responsible. Revenge, Commander," K'ndry replied.
"Revenge does not bring them back." she said in a soft tone as she thought about the short time she had had with her husband.
"It honors their memories and sacrifices," K'ndry replied. "Kill those responsible in the name of those lost."
"Thats all we have left, and I am begining to believe it is not enough. I will never enjoy the killing though I will do it, the more we kill the more it makes us into animals . . one day we will not be able to remember any other way of life." she remarked as they continued thier exit from the Wildcat.
"And one day there will be no more Borg," the pilot answered in a low tone. "Then I may live again. As the Jem'Hadar say... I go into battle to reclaim my life."
"They are no better than the borg, they just kill you a different way. If you wish to live your life thier way then you are welcome to it, but yours will be a lonely existance." she said not bothering to look at him, he had indeed changed and from what he had said so far it was for the worse.
"It may be lonely, but it is not painful," the pilot answered. "This way leaves the names on the casualty lists as nothing more than organizations of letters, forming the names of the missing and deceased. Remaining emotionally detached allows for faster and smoother action during battle when underfire as well. It prevents the hesitation when ordering someone to their death."
"It also makes it harder for your men to trust or respect you when you are so detatched to thier fates." she returned.
"Not when they repeatedly see I do not give an order that I would not myself carry out," K'ndry said dryly.
"Then they are as emotionly devoid as you, I care what happens to those under my command but as always I lead from the front. Where I go they follow because they know I will do all in my power to get us all back."
"Are you implying that I enjoy ordering men to their deaths or don't try to get them all home," the pilot snarled, spinning the taller woman around to face him.
"I am saying that caring about them only makes the bond stronger, not weaker. But as I said before you only ever cared about yourself so caring for others is not something you will miss." she snarled in return and then turned to walk away from him again.
K'ndry shook his head for a second, and the anger dissipated. He hadn't expected Harriet to understand, after all she was only a woman. Security or not, she was no warrior and would never be willing to detach herself in the manner that he had in order to become the perfect leader. "Suit yourself, you will never learn and only ever hurt by following your path," K'ndry called after her, spinning on his heel and heading back to main engineering to wait on the signal to eject the core from Beckett.
"The pain I feel when one of the crew dies, that is what makes me Human rather than Borg. Our feelings, our passions is what seperates us foolish cat." she said in a scornful tone as she exited the ship and hit her comm.
=/\= Harry to Estaban the bomb is in place and is set to blow on your command.=/\= she stated in the same cold tone she had used with K'endry her temper starting to cool slightly.
"Who's the bigger fool? The fool or the fool that refuses to listen," K'ndry shot back over his shoulder.
"Enjoy your pain... it will destroy you."
"I was destroyed long ago, only the pain keeps me alive." she replied as she left the ship and kept going.

He looked at Dia, he had to tell her what he had came down here to talk to her about.
"Dia, we will make it through, honest, we will be ok." He lied with all his heart. "I don't think we can blank out the windows," he glanced at the big bay windows looking out behind the ship. "But soon we will have to run for it, when we do, there will be a big explosion behind us, you have to make sure no one watches, or you will be treating flash blindness. Then we are going to go dark again, I'm telling you so you can keep everyone here calm, we are doing it on purpose this time."

It was something about dark, explosion and run. Dia raised her head, looking into his eyes, and said with a soft voice, "No one will watch, they're all gone. Yeah, that's it, the dead can't see, you know..." Her voice trailed off.

Defiant Class
USS Vindicator: Bridge
ON:
The bridge shook as the small ship was battered by the weapons of yet another borg cube.
=^=Engineering to the bridge.
We can't take another hit like that, Sir=^=
Smoke was filling the cabin as small fires were being extinguished. The Captain scream through the turmoil, "Evasive Maneuvers!!! All weapons fire! Give'm everything we got!"
Kurt's hands danced across the console, sending the ship spiraling up across the z-axis, as another shot narrowly missed the Vindicator. Kurtis Darcy was a damn good pilot, but now even he wasn't sure if he could get them out of this mess.
The forward display lit up as the little defiant class ship unloaded every weapon it had left onto the cube looming before it. One could almost feel the heart of every bridge crew sink as they saw what little damage that had done to the enemy.
"Keep us in tight, Mr. Darcy. Nothing gets past us!" The Captains words rang clear in the chaos of the battle.
"I can't hold them off sir! There's too much debris out there!" Kurt replied over his shoulder. At that instant, the borg fired, striking a critical hit against the Vindicator. The console in front of Kurt exploded sending sparks and smoke into his face. When Kurt came too, the bridge was filled with smoke, and every crew member in sight lie motionless at thier stations. Alarms were sounding, and it took a moment of the explosions still ringing in his ears before he could make out what the automated voice was saying.
=^= Warp core breach eminent. Evacuate. Warp Core breach...=^=
It took all of Lt. Darcy's will to stand and fight through the pains of his burns and what must be a shattered left arm. He checked the bridge crew for those that might still be alive. Nothing. Instinct took over through his tears and panic, and pure adrenaline pushed him through the smoke filled corridoors to the first escape pod he could find.
"They're all dead", he thought. "All but me."
With the last efforts of his broken body, he sealed the hatch of his pod, and released it from the ship. The last thing he saw before sinking into blackness was his ship through the port hole, as the warp core finally breached. Nothing was left but to float through space, destined to eventually join his crew mate that hadn't made it off.
***
Lt. Darcy's eyes slowly opened to the white light shining directly above him. All he could feel was the excruciating pain. At least there's pain, he thought. That means I'm still alive. A face appeared in the light, smiling at him.
"Welcome aboard the USS Rainmaker, Lieutenant." Said the face. And then the darkness took him again.
***
Estaban was talking to Dia when one of the people stirred and woke up. He moved over to him.
"Take it easy, you are safe." Estaban lied in a convincing manner. "You have had a rough time of it."
Darcy looked around trying to figure out where in God's name he was. A mess hall? A mess hall indeed. Though the tables had all been pushed to the edges of the room, if not taken out all together, this was a mess hall turned sick bay. Surely things couldn't be this bad, he thought.
People lay scattered across the floor. Some lay moaning in pain, with hardly enough medical staff to treat even half the injurred. Others lay motionless. The lucky, he thought. At least they found their way out of this.
With a shudder, Darcy shook the grim thought from his mind, and turned to the man who had greeted him.

Estaban helped him to his feet. "Then your with me, I will have need for you on the Bridge.
When they reached the Aux Bridge, Estaban pointed to the helm station. "We are currently docked to a derelict ship. When we undock, I will need you to get us away from it as fast as you can. We have no warp, no impulse, so it will be thrusters alone. The least manuvers you can manage, I want most of our thrust time in a straight line. ON:
The Captain's words reminded Kurtis Darcy why he hated being wrong so much. The ship was far worse off than he had originally assessed. Once the Rainmaker undocked, he would have to literally burn most of their fuel to get the distance the Captain wanted. Then they would be dead in the water. No thrusters, no warp, no impulse. This just got worse by the moment.
Despite the morbid prospect of floating through space as sitting ducks, Darcy took his position. As if it were reflex, his fingers dashed across the console checking the amount of fuel left for the thrusters. Checking what, if any, of the thrusters were even in working order. He pulled up the sensor logs of their immediate surroundings so as to plot the most direct route away from where the Rainmaker was docked, while avoiding any debris. At least he could do something. There was comfort in that.

Helen used a towel she had found behind the counter and used it to make an sling for Dia's right arm. She looked up from folding the towel while shaking her head. "Dia refused treatment the moment she woke up in the messhall after she was found injured. When she heard Sickbay was gone, she just got up and started helping the others ignoring her own health and the headinjury she had."
Dia was just staring at a certain spot on the opposite wall, ignorant of what was being said. Helen knotted the ends of the towel behind Dia's neck and then put Dia's arm through it. She couldn't treat the injury but at least this way the arm would get some support. Dia still hadn't reacted.
"She shouldn't be up in the first place Captain, she's exhausted. Not only physically but also mentally." Helen stood up for a moment and looked over the counter to all the other people laying there. "I can only imagine what she's feeling right now. Seeing people die who she could have helped if she had a fully equipped sickbay." Helen turned towards Estaban. "I'll give her a sedative, and try to treat some of her wounds. For now she should get some rest and sleep so her body can start healing, if not I'm afraid the damage might become permanent. "Not so good sir." Darcy replied.
His brain flew at a thousand miles an hour trying to think of how to muster more speed from this hunk of metal that used to be a ship. "The only movement we have is thrusters. If I burn the fule dry, we can get a nice little boost of speed. That's assuming we have a straight line, sir. Arfter that, though, we would be sitting ducks."

"I'm fine Captain, I was lucky enough to be on a safe part of the ship." Helen then faced the captain, "And my experience of working in hospitals during wartime has been helpful. It's not much but at least we've been able to help some people get up on their feet already." She gave the captain a weak smile.
"But, I'd better start preparing the people to shield their eyes against that explosion you spoke off."
Estaban nodded, he knew in his bones there was not much time left...
Estaban was talking to Helen when one of the people stirred and woke up.
Some lay moaning in pain, with hardly enough medical staff to treat even half the injured. Others lay motionless. The lucky, he thought. At least they found their way out of this.
With a shudder, Darcy shook the grim thought from his mind, and turned to the man who had greeted him.
"Sir, Lt. Junior Grade Kurtis Daniel Darcy, of the USS Vindicator. I'm ready for flight duty sir...if you happen to need a good pilot."
Estaban looked at Helen, she shrugged and then nodded. "He is the one we picked up in a life pod. No major injuries."
Estaban helped him to his feet. "Then your with me, I will have need for you on the Bridge.
A short time later Harry entered the bridge and took Estaban's seat, "Yesab, Whats the situation with the Borg, how long do we have before they arrive." she asked him.
Phoenix walked onto the bridge his uniform was still ripped and dusty from when he was looking for Sarah and his eyes where red and blochy the tell tell signs that he had been crying.
"Whats happened" he said in a weak voice as he stepped on the bridge.
"They just showed up on extreme long range sensors, an hour maybe an hour and a half at their present speed."
Yesab was doing his best right now, he believed in saving himself first. If it helped others well, he just had to accept that part of it.
Phoenix heard this as he walked on the bridge he wipe his eyes with his sleeve they where still red and blotchy. he looked around the bridge "What are our weapons like" he said as he walked over to the command chair where harry was sitting.
He put his hand on her shoulder "take Tactical we may need your shooting skills"
"How are we looking for get away speed" as he looked at a control panel that was flickering.
When they reached the Aux Bridge, Estaban pointed to the helm station. "We are currently docked to a derelict ship. When we undock, I will need you to get us away from it as fast as you can. We have no warp, no impulse, so it will be thrusters alone. The least maneuvers you can manage, I want most of our thrust time in a straight line. Don't worry about fuel consumption, burn the tanks dry."
Estaban looked around the Bridge, Phoenix, and Harry were both there. "Well what's our status?" He asked,

"Not Good" He said looking at the helm station. he looked at what they had left of fuel, it didn't look good.
He tapped a few buttons on the pannel with his metal hand, it had started to feel heavy a tell tell sign that its power supple was running low and soon he would have to remove it.
"The best thing i can see is we stay here and save fuel that way when they come we can still move to fire and can try to use thee wildcat as cover."
There was nothing let to do if they borg where coming there is no way they can out run them even if they get the warp core online they can't warp with only one nacelle and the hull wouldn't take the stress. They had to stand there ground and fight, this made him happy he wanted to make them pay they couldn't hide they couldn't run so they had to fight and take as many of them with them as they could.

After the captain had left and she had taken care of Dia, Helen informed the marines who were helping about what was going to happen. Together with their help she assured and prepared the people in the messhall and told them to cover their eyes with their arm and for those who couldn't do that she had found some cloths to cover them.
She looked over the messhall and assigned each marine to some section of the messhall, so in case something went wrong, the zone where they should keep their attention on, was going to be smaller.
She then tapped her combadge =^= "Helen to the Captain, the messhall is ready, sir. But could you give us a warning before the blast if possible?" =^=

Ok this is a JP and a little bit of a back post, but it should bring two new characters into the fold.
USS Wildcat
Some where on deck 4
Cole was quietly walking through the corridors of his now dead ship. Slowly he creped with the phaser shaking wildly in his hand, his nerves still actively teasing every sense he had so badly that ever step felt like one more step closer to a Borg ship. The area that was left was lined with dead bodies, debris and even a downed Borg Drone or two. Every drone he saw, Sam half expected to hop up and assimilate him. Top that with the loss of the com-system and the lack of contact from any one a live for nearly two hours, and Cole was quit frankly about to go out of his mind.
He approached a downed officer who was clinging tightly to a phaser rifle. The dead man looked as though he was fighting off the devil himself with the death grip his hands had over the weapon. Solid white knuckles clung to the inanimate object like a little boy holding on to his favorite toy. Cole was ready to walk by when his Star Fleet training screamed at him to pick up the weapon. He fought, telling himself the rifle was surely empty and that the solider had definitely expired the power cell, but Cole knew better. He had a DUTY to pick up that rifle, in the event there were still living Borg aboard. Silently he reached out, as though the corps were a snake poised to strike him at the first wrong move. Gently he wrapped his shaking fearful fingers around the cold metal body of the weapons barrel. After firmly gripping the weapon Cole gave a good quick solid yank, a pull so hard it landed him and the rifle on the deck behind him, and right into the corps of a dead drone who lifelessly slid into him. The sharp ocular implant poked Sam in the shoulder and sparked such a fear that the young officer jumped to his feet and fired wildly into the lifeless mass of flesh and technology. The drone danced as the energy from the phaser shots provided temporary animation for the long dead muscles and servos. This motion only further fueled Sam’s fear as he continued to allow the fire red beams to explode from the rifle like the volcanoes of Vulcan.
After several moments of watching the puppet being toyed with by the rifle, Cole stopped firing and turned to walk away.
"I think you got him, Commander."
Cole turned himself about with a start, fearful of the sudden voice behind him. There, with his hands upraised, stood a tall man in a tattered Marine uniform. "Don't worry," he said. "I'm on your team. Why don't you just give me that phaser rifle and we can figure out where we want to go from here." The Marine advanced on him slowly and gently took the rifle from his posession. Cole's hands trembeled as he relinquished control of the rifle, still quite shaken from the recent events leading up to the near-destruction of the USS Wildcat. "I didn't mean to startle you, Commander," the Marine said as he engaged the rifle's safety. "I'm Captain Hennessy, but you can call me Ian." Ian took a moment to wipe the moisture from his brow, which at this point was mostly blood. He had taken a nasty header during the initial attack, and reorienting himself was proving to be an arduous task.
Ian looked up at Cole, who seemed to be in just as bad of shape as he was. The attack had taken it's toll on both of their bodies, and it was clear that they both would need medical attention soon: assuming there were still medical personnel alive on the Wildcat. "It's good to see I'm not the only person still alive on this boat. The Borg hit us pretty hard. Honestly, Commander, I'm not even sure where we ended up." Ian winced at the sudden pain shooting up his leg. A piece of the bulkhead had caught the front of his thigh, cutting a nice gash in his leg and making ambulation a challenge. "Any idea where we are at?"
"Somewhere on deck four, I think", Sam replied a little shaken still, but the sight of the man’s leg seemed to formulate a strengthened resolve in the man. He knew he had to tend to this mans medical needs. Sam had a few bumps and bruises but was better off having been in his office reviewing Inelegance information at the time of the attack. His voice more calm, now with the arrival of another NONE Borg drone, he spoke again, "We need to get you to a med kit and then get down to deck 5. There is another ship, Star Fleet, and from my scans with the tricorder, its close enough to dock. Deck 5 and 6 have the only operational docking ports, but they have been vented into space. So we have to re-pressurize those decks, restore life support, and some how send a message to the other ship its clear to dock. Oh, and if that’s not bad enough, during the attack we lost communications. Internal and external com is down, so this will be more fun than a dance with a Telerite circus monkey."
"Sounds like we got a lot of work ahead of us, Commander," Ian said calmly. "I don't suppose anyone else survived the explosion, though anyone else trudging through this mess will likely make their way to Decks 5 or 6." Ian limped a couple of steps, flashes of pain coming over his face as his leg reminded him of the wound he had incurred.
"Ian, you said your name was… we need to get you looked at, you wont do me any good if you bleed to death. If my guess is right, we are in section 17 and there should be an emergency equipment locker in section 20, so a few more sections and I can take a look at that leg. Can you make it that far", the now calming officer asked? Cole seemed focused on the marine so much he allowed his mind to erase the incident with the dead drone, even the incident of the attack it self. Often was the mans escape from fear, to focus on what had to be done, not what was going on around him. His mind, now free from the fear of the lonely darken corridor, was able to start calculating ways to alert the other ship, either an intrepid or other similar sized ship, the tricorder had not been able to clearly determine from the distance, that the Wildcat was clear for boarding and what ever plans that captain had. Logically the Wildcat would be decommissioned after being scrapped, or perhaps just blown up, as were the standard now a days, but hopefully he and the marine could get off before that happened.
"Yeah, I can make it. Got the bleeding mostly stopped for now, though a medkit would certainly make life easier." Ian sighed heavily, taking it all in. "So, Deck 5 and 6 are in hard vacuum, eh? I'm not sure how we are going to make that one work. If we can visualize the other ship, we might be able to rig the lighting to send a signal via Morse Code, though even making that work involves a myriad of steps that could go wrong." Ian paused, thinking for a moment." Still, it's good to know we don't have to try it alone." Ian looked at Cole, noting the significantly calmer appearence in his stature. Ian threw the Commander the rifle, then bent down to acquire one from a young Ensign who would no longer be needing his. "To the lockers, then. Lead the way, Commander," Ian said as he readied his weapon.
Sam quietly took the weapon, and considered his options. Rather than ready the rifle, he slung it over his shoulder and took the marine by the arm so to take weight off the injured leg. He looked to the man, now intent on getting to section 20 and spoke, this time a little humor to his voice, "Don’t get any ideas marine, your not on leave and haven’t gotten me drunk enough yet."
He smirked a moment before continuing, "Lets get going, sooner the better".
"Copy that, Commander."
He lead the marine down the corridor, all the while running into to dead drones, dead crew and even dead drones that were crew. It was a mess, the Fleet as it was; was gone. The alpha quadrant was soon to be gone with it. What would be left… would be BORG! Cole could feel a cold shiver down his spine as he thought about that, but then he quickly was reminded that he had a marine to tend to, then he had to figure out what that ship planning to dock was… Was it friendly or was it Borg? The tricorder could tell him it was a Federation warp signature in general, but even tied into what was left of the sensors, the tricorder couldn’t tell if the ship had been assimilated or not. So half happily he lead his comrade down the corridor to the emergency equipment locker. He removed the med kit and scanned over the marine. A minor bout of internal bleeding both in his body and his leg, a fracture to his leg, probably due to the shrapnel that hit it, and the cut it self. No major surgery needed, so he could patch him up, but the marine would, like Sam, need a more through evaluation once they were on a friendly and better staffed ship. Sam treated the man and then scanned him self. A few nicks, a couple bruises and a cut, a deep cut on his left shoulder blade. He hadn’t even noticed the pain with all the excitement, but yes, now he felt it… pain. Quietly he used the dermal regenerator on him self, and the pain faded. He felt his uniform, a nice hole was left, probably from debris from his office since the only living soul he encountered since the incident was the marine. He then scanned himself and the marine again, this time checking blood levels. Both were below normal, almost one quarter the blood level they should be at, below normal. Not enough to kill them, or severly render them unable to act, but enough to warrant some medical treatment, again if they could get to a friendly ship. Cole gave Ian a light pain killer to assist in the discomfort the marine would be feeling, then he closed the med kit up. He removed a back pack from the locker, loaded the med kit, all the weapons except one or two, all the tricorders but one, all of the emergency food rations and water pouches, the arm torches, the pads, every thing of use that was operating that he could, he crammed into the bag. Surly if that was a friendly ship, the less they had to salvage, the better. The he removed an emergency beacon and activated it, setting it to emit a simple signal. "Star Fleet Crew alive… Deck 5 and 6 vented into space… will restore environment asap."
"The leg's feeling a lot better. I appreciate the help, Commander," Ian began helping with the supplies, and noticed the emergency beacon in Cole's right hand. "Good, there's a beacon here," he said.
"I just set the becan to tell that other ship Star Fleet Crew are alive, that deck 5 and 6 are uninhabitable at the moment and that we will restore environment as soon as we can."
Ian gave an audible sigh. "Easier said than done, Commander. I'm not even completely sure how to get there from here, and it's a likely that we are not alone on this vessel."
He allowed the marine a chance to voice any concerns before speaking again.
"I realize that ship could have hostels on it, but its our ONLY chance. Besides, lets hope for the best. Oh, and I say we leave this here, in the event that ship is Borg they may have harder time tracking us if we aren’t carrying a ‘here I am’ sign with us."
Ian chuckled. "Good idea, Commander. If we do run into any hostiles, there should be plenty of cover amongst the debris. Also, if the borg figure out we are here, they will likely set ambushes for us, so be careful."
"Well, we need to get going if we are going to get deck 5 and 6 back to habitable", Cole replied, Star Fleet training and his comfort with the none Borg company now driving his will to finish the job.
"Aye sir, lead the way."
He lead the marine down the corridor further, to a Jeffries tube. Before he opened the tube, he tied his tircorder into a near by consul and rerouted the consul to be able to draw power for another functioning power grid. Using SFI security over rides, he was able to access environmental controls and restore life support to half of deck 5 and part of deck 6. Not perfect, but it would allow that ship to dock. He looked the marine and smiled.
"You tell any one I can do that, and not even the Borg will find your body", the officer joked.
Ian smiled, more than a little impressed. "Don't worry, sir: your secret's safe with me."
Cole then opened the tube, to find a LIVING Borg drone, probably waiting for him, launch out at the man. All of a sudden, Coles confidence and security were gone, he froze, as if the drone himself had just turned the deck into an arctic wasteland that instantly solidified Coles body. As if on some heavenly cue, a phaser blast ripped into the drone, knocking back into the tube. Cole stood frozen unable to think for the moment.
Ian kept his rifle trained on he drone, coming back to himself as his training had taken over. He kicked the drone off of Cole, looking up the tube to make sure no more drones were going to appear out of the sky. He then looked back at Cole, trying to figure out if the drone had managed to assimilate him. After a couple of very long seconds, Ian determined that Cole had not been turned into the enemy. Ian offered his hand to Cole. "You ok, Sir?"
Shaking himself off as if he had just had a million tinny little insects all over him, the officer slowly replied, “Y… y… yea… I…I’m fine… Be a lot better… once we get off this damned ship.” He quietly lead the other man down to the docking hatch on deck 5. The two worked to gather phaser rifles, hand phasers, tricorders, all the equipment they could get and carry on the way. When the finally arrived, both of the men look like human pack mules, filled to the brim with items, though the marine, leading the way, had far fewer. The two had agreed to this arrangement since it was obvious the marine was quicker with a weapon, and also had a leg that should get some TLC before being loaded up.
Both men found a quiet spot semi defendable across from the airlock. They took up a defensive posture behind some downed bulkheads and support beams and waited. Quicker than they expected, only about ten minuets into the wait, the door began to activate and slide open. The two men carefully aimed their rifles at the door, fearing the worst. As if touched by the mightiest of Gods him self, they two breathed a long sigh of relief to discover those coming through were not Borg. Quickly they popped to their feet and called out.
“Hello, we are survivors of this ship, the USS Wildcat.”

Marine Captain Ian Hennessy and Lieutenant Commander Sam Cole had been met with both concern and suspicion since the away team had somehow missed them. Sam had been checked out, given a clean bill of health, then put to work. His arms were exausted and felt like Koveran Dung Worms. His heart was pounding so loud, now not from fear, but from the task he was given. The more heavy equiptment and arm fulls of equptment he moved, the louder he herd his heart beating. At one point he stoped and looked at it, as if deciding weather or not to ripe it from his chest before simply ordering it to shut up.
A passing crewman gave him a weird look and he clumbsily spoke, "Sorry... uh... growling stomach."
"Ah", the crewman replied with a half hearted smile, "we got plenty of TKLs aboard ship to help with that, sir."
Sam felt a sigh of releife when the man walked away and thought to him self 'Damn it Sam, if you talk to your self like that, they will think your crazy'.
After a long and grueling shift, Cole was finally done and in his bunk. A few moments of sleep would do him good, but before he could fade away, he herd the com chime in.

He revied his last several hours, or what felt like hours, of activity and came to the conclusion, he had NO idea what he did. So, rather than try to work it out himself, he opted to face the fire.

"So long as it doesn't entail the Borg, or a ship full of corpses around me, I am almost open to any thing, sir", the exhausted officer replied with as much of a smile as he could muster.
"No promises on that," Estaban sighed, "no promises."
"If possible sir, I would like to get some rest soon?"
Estaban felt the thrusters running at full burn, he judged how long they could go before they would be exhausted. "Find you a comfortable place on the Bridge, you have a phaser with you, right?" Seeing the weapon at his belt. "Good, we will soon be going dark, when we do, sleep is as good of thing to do as any." He paused a bit then added, "and better then some other things."

"Sir, there are reports that the Cardassians may have pushed the Borg back some. Though they are expected to falter and loose soon. The Klingons are also reportidly working to form an offensive fleet, in sector Wolf 359."

Mess Hall
Dia was running through the corridor, every now and then she looked behind her shoulder. She had to stay in front of the darkness that was following her. She didn't know where it came. She had been in Sickbay when she first spotted it. The darkness came in and swallowed everything: people, equipment, anything. Anything that was laying on the darkness' path became devoured and disappeared.
She kept running and running until she crossed an intersection where she turned to the right. She knew there was a turbolift at the end of that corridor. Her heart was beating in her chest and she was gasping for air when she finally reached the lift. Looking over her shoulder, she waited till she heard the doors go open. She almost sprinted inside as she suddenly felt a sharp pain coming down on her shoulder, she turned her head and looked back in the face of one of her staff members. Except that the face was mutilated with Borg implants. The Borg's arm was coming down again and she felt a sharp pain in her shoulder as some kind of blade hit her.
With a shock Dia opened her eyes, but quickly closed them again as the bit of light that was around, hurt her eyes. Helen who was sitting next to her laid her hand on Dia's good shoulder, "Stay down Dia, it was just a bad dream."
Dia slowly opened her eyes and let them adjust to the faint light, as she recognized the figure sitting next to her. She slowly moved her head and looked around. Things were starting to come back to her. The attack, the mess hall, the darkness, the Borg. She quickly reached with her left hand to her right shoulder and arm. The arm was still there, the last part with the darkness was just a dream. She closed her eyes, her whole body was hurting. She gave herself some time to adjust, swallowed and opened her eyes again, "What happened?" The last thing she remembered was that she was taking care of one of the casualties. The rest all seemed blurry.
Helen looked down at the younger woman, "You collapsed, you were asking too much of yourself Dia. I had to give you a sedative." Dia tried to get up but Helen held her down. "Help me up, the people need me." Helen shook her head. "We've got everything under control. And the captain has some kind of plan, if he succeeds we'll be without any lights soon, you wouldn't be able to help out at all then." At a soft voice Helen explained the captain's plan to Dia. "Why don't you close your eyes and get some more sleep. I'll wake you up when we need you."
Dia managed to put some kind of grin on her face, she knew Helen, they had been working together for some years now. "No, you won't." Helen always took the welfare of her patients first, no matter what. Dia knew Helen would only wake her up if something life threatening would happen.
Helen just placed her hand on Dia's forehead, "Close your eyes Dia, try to get some more sleep. You'll need all your strength to help out soon." Dia knew the woman was right and for once she didn't argue, she was too tired to start a discussion and she didn't see the point. She closed her eyes and in no time, she drifted off again.

"Aye sir", Cole replied, "and have you herd the latest intel sir?"
Estaban looked at Cole with a bit of an your kidding me smile, "No, I have been a bit out of touch just before the last battle."
"Sir, there are reports that the Cardassians may have pushed the Borg back some. Though they are expected to falter and loose soon. The Klingons are also reportedly working to form an offensive fleet, in sector Wolf 359."
"Why 359?" Estaban asked.
"Well sir, I understand the Klingons are planning to hide their warp signatures amongst the debris, and are looking to form some kind of attack. Though their is extreme doubt as to how it will go, but then again, I've herd the House of Duras never were very bright."
"They wouldn't know what end of the Targ to put the food." Estaban nodded, "How sure are you about this?"
"These are unconfirmed, obviously sir, simply reading the morris code signal being sent by the modified subspace carrier wave transmission protocol."
"Morris Code sent by sub-space carrier wave..." Estaban started to ask then the ship fell silent, the thrusters had burned dry. Estaban's demeanor changed to one of hard business or war, the two were the same in the end.
He hit his Badge, "Estaban to Helen" =/\= Prepare for the flash of light =/\=

Looking around the Bridge he smiled, not the smile of the unhinged but the cold smile of someone playing out their last cards hoping to take the pot out of sheer luck.
He hit the intercom button for the whole ship. =/\= All hands, shut everything down. There are Borg out there and we want them to see us as just another piece of debris.
Shut down everything and stay away from the windows, it's going to get a bit bright outside. Stay calm, panic kills faster then anything else. Make sure you are still armed and find your buddy. We are looking at a couple of hours most likely, we can do it, view this as your break time.
I am so proud of all of you, you have done well to give us a fighting chance for survival. Brace for an impact then just stay calm and quiet for a while. =/\=

Quietly he listened to the words the captain had shared, and he could recall the words that his own captain gave right before they were hit.
"... Your a good crew. Each and every one of you have served this ship well, countless times over. You have all made me very proud. Arm your selves, and remeber... its better to be dead than Borg..."
Those last words rang hard in Cole, who was working on fowarding all the intel he could to the bridge durring the battle with the Borg. Better dead than Borg, he agreed now, as he allowed a cold bitter tear to run down his face. He knew, from officers on the Rainmaker, what was coming. The end of his ship, the end of the USS WildCat. He closes his eyes for a moment, the last remaining reminense of his life, his photos, his awards, all he cared about, were still on that ship. He was too preoccupied with salvaging the important life saving equiptment to stop for his own momentos. Quietly he moved to a unoccpied chair and sat down, laying his head back, he closed his eyes and allowed himself to drift off to sleep.

Phoenix was standing there was no seat for the Xo on the same bridge but he was standing near helm as that was the best place for him because he was once the cheif helm so if he could help in anyway he would.
There was not much to hold onto but he moved to hold onto something knowing it was going to be a bumpy ride and having to go back into black out, he wanted to get back to lucy but was going to have to wait but he would go and check on her as soon as he could.

Helen looked up and hit her combadge in return =^= Awknowledged, sir.=^= Closing the link she softly added more to herself, 'Good luck with the plan.' After which she stood up and went to warn the people helping out in the mess hall. With a few people each assigned to a section of the mess hall, all the others would be warned in no time.
He hit the intercom button for the whole ship. =/\= All hands, shut everything down. There are Borg out there and we want them to see us as just another piece of debris.

All the medical equipment that they had saved so far was distributed between the 5 marines who were helping out. Any reserve was stored safely away.
After reassuring some people and advising them to close and protect their eyes, Helen went back to the counter and sat down. This way she could keep an eye on Dia and the other people in the mess hall she was responsable for in case something went wrong.
She leaned against the wall, put her arms around her knees, closed her eyes and lowered her head on her arms. While she started to hum a song she waited.

Find a Buddy? I am my own Buddy. Thought Yesab.
Then he looked over to Yesab, "Activate the Device."
"Device activated!!" Yesab closed his eyes and waited for the bright explosion to be over. He wanted to make sure his eyes didn't get damaged. After all he was important to himself. He needed to take care of himself, he was all for self preservation to better himself later. Well, he knew he was on the bridge but just in case something they had repaired blew up... well... better to be careful he thought. He wasn't sure how well the tape and spit job would hold.

"Device activated!!"
Estaban watched the main viewer, the small spot on the screen was the Wildcat just sat there, growing smaller and smaller.
He knew some would have wanted them to wait till the Borg were on top of the ship before blowing it up, maybe taking part of the cube out with it. But Estaban knew that was a bad idea. He knew Phoenix for example would have stood an fought them, but that wasn't the answer either.
They had left the scene with thrusters, they left tracks as plain as a man walking through a field full of snow, the Borg would see it, and once one Borg sees something they all do. Their only chance laid in wiping out the tracks before the Borg get close enough to see it.
The pinpoint of blinding pure white light, the energy that was declared the power of God when first discovered, and Estaban understood why, grew, and grew, and grew. They were not far enough away, he knew they would not be but he hoped that the ship would survive the shock wave.
Even as lights went out the inertia dampeners lagged behind in the jolt the ship received. The mighty ship Rainmaker, twisted, crippled shot up now tumbled randomly. The sounds on the little Aux Bridge faded away, the lights were out, consoles were dark. They were settling to the same position they started in.
Estaban picked himself off the deck and pulls out a chemical flare cracked it and shook it hard, the purple-blue light gave an eerie glow...

OOG I am going to leave this thread open for a while so that others can post in their character's thoughts and feelings, remember the Wildcat is behind the Rainmaker and the Oasis is at the very back, so the sick people Dia, Helen, and Lucy would have the best view. I will lock this thread up when I start the next mission.
Phoenix
03-13-2008, 04:50 AM
Phoenix was not happy, they had been hiding for to long now. They would be hiding again. He was not like many people, they had lost most of there family or friends most of his was still on Earth or the Rainmaker, all but one his borthers but he had been missing for years.
But the death of his wife had clouded his mind just like what has happened to so many people that had lost someone over the years. Like so many of them he wanted to fight not run.
"Lets hope they don't scan for life signs" he said in a very unhappy way. They could make a ship look dead but not a crew that are on it. He moved from where he was standing his arms power was almost gone and it was slow he toke it off and placed in some where on the bridge so he could get it back when he could power it again.
He didn't care anymore what happened because there was nothing they could do now if the borg find them they are death and if they don't they it will be only a matter of time. He wanted to go and see lucy now.

Quietly he began to doze off, as the flash of light went off. He was fimrly planted, and soon, was asleep...
Looking around, he saw himself standing on the bridge of the USS Wildcat. He moved down to the command deck to address the captain, and when he arrived, a Borg drone was sitting in the captains chair. He steped back, gasping for air as if the room had suddenly become a vacume. Quickly he turned to move away, but when he turned to view the view screen, he was no longer on the Wildcat. Instead, he was standing, now, on a Borg ship. Quietly he began to walk down the corridor, noting the alcoves empty of drones.
Awe inspired by the sheer fear factor of the might craft, Coles eyes scaned about the black bulkheads and grey metal consuls and railings. Carefully looking for a drone, he reached for his phaser, only to discover it was not there. He was alone, unarmed, on a Borg ship. A sense of panic washed over him, a fear that this was over, he was soon going to be a Borg. Or was he already a Borg, was this what it was like to be assimilated. Then he reached out his hand and took hold of an alcove, to discover that he was, in fact, in control of his own actions and his own body. Slowly he krept foward.
"...nothing to burry, nothing to morn, 'poff' the Borg took it all away from you in an instant...", Cole could hear in his mind over and over again. The words from the log of Ensign Furlong, son of Lieutenant Furlong, helmsman of the USS Righteous lost at the battle of Wolf 359. He claimed that Q had given him a chance to save his father, only to let him fail and see his father die first hand. Yet those words, "...nothing to burry, nothing to morn..." kept replaying over and over again in his mind like a broken record.
As Cole continued down the long dark corridor, hinted with green light from near by power distribution nodes and computer interface terminals, a sense of dread washed over him. He turned a corner, expecting another long dark and spooky corridor, only to be confonted by his new captain, Captian Maturin, but not his captain... a Borg Drone. With his rough and gruff tone the man spoke to him.
"You failed us Cole... You failed the Rainmaker, just like you failed the Wildcat... Better dead than Borg... but we are Borg... you let us become Borg... you let them ASSIMILATE US!"
"No", Cole screamed, "I tried to stop it... there was nothing I could do... I couldnt hack the Borg computers... I tired... no, it wasnt my fault... no.... NO!"
Cole could feel warm hands starting to graps his arms as he struggled and shouted his repeated please of argument. He felt as though he were being violently attacked while the contact was nothing more than a harsh shaking. Then he closed his eyes, praying it would all go away, beggin for it to all end, as the shaking continued. When he opened his eyes, he could hear different voices, and saw the darkness of the Rainmaker.

Estaban had set his sword down to grab Cole's arms.
"WAKE UP!" He said as he shook Cole like a dog would shake a rabbit.
A dark ship and waiting for the Borg to see or not see them was not the place for a terror filled dream, the crew were on edge enough.
Phoenix
03-18-2008, 08:42 AM
Phoenix made his way over to the captain.
He Whispered to the captain "How long we going to sit in the dark this time" He said under is breth. He was not happy with the captain the last thing he wanted to do was be where they started at the start of this dead in space no lights no power and low on air.

Estaban knew Phoenix was upset with him. "Jonathan, what choice do we have? We can't fight them, do you want Lucy to be made a Borg?" He whispered back.
Estaban hated himself for that the instant that he said it. Phoenix had to see it though, their own survival laid in not being seen.

Still with in earshot of the captain and his new comrade, Cole, unable to return to sleep for the nightmare he had, spoke loud enough to be herd by the other two, but not so loud as to fill the room.
"Klingons have been loosing ships in mass numbers due to their warriers pride... If your so eager, I sugest you join them... I for one have NO intentions of becoming Borg. The captain of the Wildcat, along with another friend of mine, all had the same Advanced Borg Tactics class and we agreed then and there, as a group... Its better to be DEAD than Borg, and I for one will not dare challenge the Borg to combat. I still remember the log entry by captain Jean Luc Picard, 'In their collective state the Borg are utterly with out mercy...'. With out mercy... does that SINK in for you, no 'dont attack the woman and children', none of this 'ignore the medical ship cause it helps all of us', crap, just ASSIMILATE ALL. So while your ego may want to go do a few rounds with the Borg, mine doesnt. I made a promise to the captain of the Wildcat when I left that ship for the last time... I would SURVIVE so the WILDCAT continues to survive. I wont LET you change that." Cole had mustered every ounce of fight he had left to sound brave and couragous, but in the end, it was for not. The truth, burried deep inside Cole that he didnt want to let any one see, was that he was scared. Samuel Cole was terrified of the Borg. They emobied all that was WRONG with the galaxy and the didnt even care.

Phoenix was not in the mood for this he had a good mind to smash the new crew members face into his contral panel.
"Its better then starving to death or runing out of air and if they don't find us this time then its only a matter of time," he looked over to the Captain and pointed with his only hand at him "You keep lucy out of this" he said he an angry voice.
He didn't want to stay on the bridge and there was no need for him to say as they where just dead in space "If anyone needs me I am going to get my spare arm" it would only last a few hours but he didn't like walking around with just on arm it made him feel weak and like he was missing something.
The lifts would be down from the blast so he was going to have to take the long way round but he didn't care.

Estaban watched Phoenix storm out of the Bridge. He knew this was the only way, just why did it have to be a non-glories cowardly way of doing things. He knew, he knew that his decisions were right, that he had done what he could to protect his crew and ship. He to was scared, he was scared of the Borg taking his people, he woke at nights with dreams like Cole had on the Bridge, calling out in terror, but he was the man that everyone looked to for strength, he could never admit fear, desperation, ignorance, or even hopelessness.
Making sure Sam was sitting back Estaban smiled a weak smile at him. "We will be fine, it will all work out and you will have a fantastic story to tell your Grandkids one day, not that they will believe a word of it." Estaban lied calmly.
He straightened up and limped back to his own chair where his sword had lain, he sat down and did the hardest thing for him to do... he waited.
