Helen turned her back towards the windows and looked inside the Oasis as the power came back on. The Oasis hadn't been in the dark completely after the explosion. With the ship taken more and more distance from the explosion and most of the bright light subdued, she had been able to continue her work. She touched her combadge, =^= "A bit shaken but other than that, we're all fine, Captain. No major incidents to report." =^=

She looked around again in the mess hall, she didn't see Dia. =^= "It seems Dia is actually taking some advice and is still resting, she woke up half an hour ago. She's still somewhat confused but at least she's responding again." =^=

Helen knew Dia, she expected to see her up and walking around again any minute now. Ignoring all good advice to get some more rest. All Helen could do was to help Dia as much as she could to try to relief her of some of the work.

The joke might have been funy if it werent for the grim state of the galaxy. Hiding from Borg at every turn just to hope to keep the speicies alive, the Federation alive.

Mess Hall

A female marine, who was helping out in the mess hall, stepped towards Helen. "Most people here have been treated, we can now focus more on the people they'll still bring in. If they still need help," she added in a soft voice.

Helen nodded towards the marine, "Thank you for all your help, I'll make sure I'll let you superior know what a good job you've been doing and still are doing." Helen didn't even know how many of the marines survived themselves. "Why don't you get some rest yourself now, you've earned it."

Helen watched the marine go to her fellow colleagues. They'd all been a tremendous help and at least Helen had some news to tell Dia now. Helen walked back to the counter where Dia was suppose to be. "Dia, we..." Helen stopped and looked around. There was nobody behind the counter.

Helen tapped her combadge =^= Helen to Dianti =^= She stopped again, she had heard the openingbeep of Dia's communication line closeby. Then her glance fell on the counter itself. Dia had removed her combadge and placed it on the counter. 'Oh great, now she's gone missing,' Helen thought. She was about to tap her combadge again to inform the captain when she changed her mind. There was no use to let him know, he probably had more urgent things on his mind and it was not like sensors could pick up Dia's location if she didn't have her communicator on her.

Helen would have to wait till she heard something from the doctor or until someone else spotted her.

Dia took a last step, stepping aside on the little platform. She finally reached an intersection in the jeffreytubes. Turning she sat down, leaning backwards against the wall in the small confinement and closed her eyes, trying to catch her breath. She was far from ok, but she had to get out of the mess hall. Helen would be furious, she thought, but she couldn't just lay there and do nothing. And that's what Helen would have wanted her to do.

Dia took another deep breath and got up, she had to continue otherwise she'd never make it to the cargohold she was heading for. She had to keep moving. She looked up, she was halfway, taking a deep breath, she grabbed the next support with her good arm and continued her way up to the next level.

It had taken him some time to get through the decks and with only one arm now made it worse but he got to his room. He walked to the door it didn't open all the way just so he could get an arm through and pull it open.

The room was trashed like most of the ship, tables where broken and everthing was on the floor it would take him some time to clear it up but he didn't have time now he looked through the mess for the spear arm.

As he looked around the room on his hand and knees he came to other things mostly pictures, looking at them when right to his heart he sat back and cryed with a picuter of him and Sarah on there wedding day. It took him some time to carm down again. This time all he looked for was his arm he didn't want to look at anymore picuters.

He found his arm it was under what was left of the glass table he picked it up and pulled back his arm sleeve so he could attach it. With that he left the room with so many memories he had to ask for a quarters chance so it would not be painful when he came in.

His next plan was to get there sickbay he had to check on lucy, it was only a deck down and now he had an arm back it would be easyer. It didn't take him long to get there and as he did the lights came back on. He would through the door and looked over to where Sarah's body was he could still see it but covered up now but no Lucy, she must have left he was not sure what to do now.

Estaban stood from the center seat, walking over to the helm. tap, tap tap, went the tip of his sword. "Mr. Darcy, when main power comes up, I want you to replicate more fuel for the thrusters. I transported all the replicator slush from the Wildcat to us while we were coupled to her."

He turned and looked around the Bridge. "Cole, Klag, Damage Control, we have two decks vented, and two decks destroyed. See if the damage to decks five and six are repairable hanging out here in space. Captain Hennessy, last I heard there are ten Marines still on the Rainmaker, find them, make your presents known, and you now have all Security and Tactical duties... also continue the SAR work on the ship. I believe the Aft Lounge is our new Sickbay."

Estaban walked to the exit and stopped, turning around. "Darcy you have the conn, we are just going to sit here for a while. I will be in Main Engineering." With that he tapped out the door and was gone.

[Main Engineering]

ON

Estaban walked through the ship corridors, tap tap tap. He walked up to the main bulkhead door.

Kendall had her head and neck inside the warp core. She was manually aligning the dilithium crystals, not an easy task. Normally this would be done by the computer. If the crystals were just a few microns off..... well, the SCE Engineer pushed the thoughts out of her mind, and looked at the tricorder she was holding. Assuming its sensor was correct, the crystal needed to bee a hair to the left...

Estaban walked into Main Engineering, the gray mode made it hard to see across the room. "Beckett! Aren't you done yet?"

Kendall grunted and pulled her head out of the warp core. "Keep yer pants on, ye bloody pirate!" She put the hatch back on the intermix chamber, and locked it down. "Jenkins! Push the button to start this puppy up!"

The crewman keyed the start-up sequence, and the warp core hummed, and started to glow. Kendall turned to Estaban. "Yes, I'm done."

The power surged through the room, as the pulsating blue glow steadied and regulated. Then lights came up to power, life support fans came on, heard only because of the long absence of their sounds.

The Rainmaker was coming to life, her own life not the pseudo-life of earlier when she was drawing from someone else. With it came Estaban's hopes, dreams and soul.

He walked across the room and took the small Engineer in his arms and gave her a hug that lifted her off the ground. "Very good, very good indead. Now we have a fighting chance."

Kendall hated to be the pessimist, but she had to point it out. "Well... except for the whole 'we can;t go faster than warp 1.2 thing... We can;t generate a symmetrical warp field with only one functioning warp coil. I can tweak it, and get us 1.2, no faster."

Estaban kissed her on one cheek then the other before setting her down. "I have an idea about that." He grinned, "your going to tell me I'm a fool but, what do I care at this point?"

Kendall shook her head. "I've known you're a fool for the past... what? Two decades? Has it really been that long? I feel old now. What's the idea?"

First, I remember reading in O'Brian and Forester books about the Men-O-Wars that when they needed room on the deck they would tow the boats behind the ship, can we do something simular?"

"You mean tow the Rainmaker?" Kendall was tired, and not processing, so before she answered, she figured she's better clarify.

Estaban grinned, "well... no. We need the whole hanger bay available for what I have in mind." His grin grew, "can we tow the shuttles and fighters behind the Rainmaker?"

Kendall quirked an eyebrow. "Sure, the tractor beams will work now. However, towing them will only work at sublight. Warp towing is a bit more complicated, and requires a lot of fine-tuning of the warp field."

"I think you will want us to stay at sublight for what I have in mind." Estaban almost chuckled. "We have in this fine Intrepid class ship the ability to replicate a shuttle, right?"

"Sort of. I can replicate all the parts, and assemble thm into a shuttle. The energy requirements to replicate an entire assembled shuttle are well... massive."

Estaban was almost bouncing at that point. "Can you replicate other larger parts?"

"Like a warp nacelle?"

"Like the components of a Warp Nacelle?" Estaban crowed before he realized that she had said it before him. "Um... yes"

Kendall shook her head. "Now that we have warp power, I can replicate components, yes. Warp coils are a bit tricky. Verterium cortenide has a... weird molecular structure. It'll take a lot of power to do."

"What if we land the ship so we can shut down all non-essential systems?" Estaban thought for a bit, "you said we can squeeze 1.2 out of her?"

"Landing the ship would be best. Work like this is always easier in gravity and atmo. It'll take a few hours to calibrate the warp field."

"How long?"

"With the computer damage we have, I'm doing a lot of calculations by hand, and if I screw up... we'll be a smear of static on someone's subspace radio. So, give me 12 hours? I'd like to wolf a ration pack, take a nap, and then do the calculations with a fresh head."

Estaban gritted his teeth, the second computer core should be safe, whole, and ready to use, but they she would have to connect it bring it to speed and etc.. more time. and she is only human, she had gone through the same things as everyone else had. "OK, twelve hours. Yesab has a cache close to here, we will go there once we have warp, and land. You and whom ever you need will build a warp nacelle while the rest of us strip the place of supplies."

Beckett grunted. "Thanks. I'll be in whatever's left of my quarters. Haven't even been in there to see what kind of damage was done yet."

Estaban laid his hands on Beckett's shoulders. :I guess no one has told you... Deck two is gone, we don't know if your quarters are even there anymore. Pick an empty crew quarters. Anything Deck seven or lower."

Kendall grunted and pointed at the MSD. "Have someone check that then. It still shows deck two as there. I'm gonna go find a bed."

Estaban looked over at crewman Jenkins as his hands dropped from her shoulders. "Crewman, deck one, two, five and six are either gone or exposed to space. Check your equipment to see if you can get correct readings." Then Estaban followed Beckett out of the Engineering room.

As he walked down the hall he drug his hand across the wall, feeling the power that his ship was again humming with.

Kendall stopped at the turbolift, and turned to look back. "feel better now that she has a pulse?"

"Oh, yes, it's the world of difference. Between life and death. Thank-you, thank you more then I can ever express." He reached up and wiped away a tear. He did it in a casual manor like it meant nothing but the look in his eye showed how much it meant for his ship to again have a heartbeat.

Kendall shook her head. "You can thank me by not disturbing me for at least eight hours. Unless we're under attack by the Borg, I want to sleep through it."

Estaban saluted her by putting the knuckle of his right hand to his forhead. "Yes ma'am"

"Last i checked, Starfleet doesn;t salute." The turbolift doors opened, and Kendall stepped in. "Coming?"

Estaban grinned and gestured with a shooing motion. "Go on, I have to go to the Oasis, it's on this deck, and see the sick and hurt."

"You enjoy that. Deck 7." The computer chirped, and the doors to the lift closed.

Estaban's shoulders drooped as soon as the doors closed. "Oh, yeh, it's just what I want to do, so bad..."

She let her eyes adjust to the light. Dia looked around, she was at the end of the jeffreytube. She remembered she sat down for a while to catch her breath after the climbing and crawling through the tubes. She must have dozed off instead, she had no idea what time it was anymore.

With some trouble she was able to open the hatch and crawled through to find herself near one of the cargobay doors. It was only now, she noticed that the power on the ship was back on. Looks like repairs started to get on the way. She tried to close the hatch again but left it open as she couldn't lift the panel with her right arm. She placed it aside and leaned with her back against the wall as a wave of nausea hit her. She shouldn't be walking around but she had to find something if only she could remember what it was. Her mind was playing tricks with her, the only thing she could remember was that it was in the cargobay somewhere.

She had to keep moving and looked around in the corridor but saw no-one else. Stepping over some debris that was laying across the corridor she walked towards the cargobaydoors which opened and Dia stept inside.

Estaban walked into the Oasis, he remembered the times of coming in here for a drink and discussions. Now it was wall to wall of pain and suffering. The hurt, burned, traumatized, and even dead he noticed. That did remind him, he would have to take care of another part of business... but that could wait. The living needed to rest and recover before dealing with saying goodbye to the dead.

He looked around for Dia, or Helen. He didn't know which he would find but he needed an update. It took time, Estaban had a second duty, to comfort the sick. "Jones, your faking it to get out of reorginizing the cargobay." "T'mar, you will be teaching meditation again very soon." "Francine, how many times do you have to be told to duck when an ODN conduit ruptures." etc...

Helen pulled the blanket over the sleeping body of the wounded lieutenant. There was nothing she could do for him, except waking over him until his time came and try to make things as easy as she could for him. She gently stood up so she wouldn't wake the man and stretched. With the 5 marines gone that used to help, she had to cover all the patients. Luckily she got help from some of the patients themselves who were able to help around. But there was still one person in particular she was worried about, very worried.

She had heard the doors opened before and quietly hoped that it would be Dia who returned. She turned around and looked for the person who last came in. She was somewhat disappointed when she spotted the captain. She still had to tell him Dia went missing. Helen walked towards the captain and waited for him to finish his chat with one of the sick crewmembers.

"Captain, what can I do for you?"

Helen didn't gave him the time to answer her question. There was no point of postponing it, he had to know. Even though he already had lots on his mind. "Actually, captain, maybe you can help me out. One of the patients went missing and I'm worried about her. I'd go looking for her myself but as you can see I can't leave these people alone."

She removed the second combadge she temporarely placed next to her own. "And she was so stupid enough to leave her combadge behind, I don't know if there's another way to track her down."

After a pause Helen added softly, "Dia is missing, captain."

Estaban was going to ask about the crew in Sickbay and about Dia when Helen dropped the bombshell.

"She went missing?" He looked at the comm badge Helen was holding. Estaban gently took it and secured it to his uniform. "This whole ship is still a mess, we can't find her with sensors. There is still wounded and dead in odd parts of the ship, we would never know one from the other with tricorders. I have holes in the ship, vented to space, and the computer is not with it enough to keep someone out of those areas."

He began to try to pace but the people lying on the ground around him did not allow it. "Any ideas where she would head to? I hope to God not Sickbay, that whole deck is still in a vacuum. As is her quarters, but the computer doesn't know it."

Helen looked down as the captain mentioned the state of the decks she first thought off, as he asked her where Dia could have gone. Sickbay and Dia's quarters were actually the first places she had in mind. She closed her eyes and rubbed the back of her neck absentmindedly. She had worked with the young doctor for several years now, and she usually could read Dia very well, she only needed half a word, sometimes a look was already enough to know what Dia meant. But now, she had no idea anymore. When she woke up earlier, the woman seemed clear and focussed, but Helen had seen the medical scans, things didn't look good for Dia.

She heaved a sigh as she looked up again, "I don't know captain, my first guess would have been Sickbay. I didn't see her leave, I don't know what state of mind she was in when she left." She softly continued, "All, I know is that the 'old' Dia would be looking for medicins or other things to help these people."

Cole quietly looked to the other crewman, "You take a deck and I'll take a deck, and we will report on our individual decks when were done, to the captain."

The conversation was brief, and Cole made his way quietly to the damaged deck. He had a simple breathing aperatus on his face and began to move slowly through the deck. There were corpses all over. This plus the lack of lighting didnt ease Cole at all. In fact, the dark shaddowed corridors felt like he was back on the Wildcat, or worse, a Borg ship. Slowly he began to move through the deck, evaluating the damage and noting it, not with a personal access display device, but with a rudimentary pad of paper and a pensical. Something he kept on him normally, it was in his pocket forgotten about till a while after he had left the wild cat. No telling how long till he could replicate a new one, but it certainly did the job as well as any padd, in a way better.

He made a small map of the deck and noted specific points of damage and structural weekening from the pounding. No ship, not even a Ferengi Slave ship, should look like this. The Borg truely were evil, in every sence of the word.

Cargobay

After being in the bright corridor, Dia blinked a few times to let her eyes adjust to the rather dark Cargobay. Some of the light were flickering as they had been damaged during the attack. Dia looked around, the place was a mess. Containers of all shapes and sizes were scattered around, blocking passages here and there. She came here with a purpose, only currently she couldn't remember what it was. She walked further ahead, making a halt as she heard some faint noises on her left side.

Slowly she made her way towards the noises spotting a young ensign laying on the ground. The doctor in her came to life and she kneeled down, trying to assess what was wrong with him. She felt a big swelling at the back of his head. Dia reached for her combadge only to discover it wasn't at its rightful place. She couldn't remember what happened with it. After some struggling, she managed to remove her jacket and placed it on the body of the young ensign, at least it would keep him a bit warm, until she found a way to contact someone.

A wave of nausea hit her as she got up too quickly. And then it hit her, she came here looking for a container filled with medical supplies. During the war she had asked permission to keep a container in the cargohold, filled with medicines and other small equipment that could easily be transported towards a ship that needed medical support fast. She never thought she would need that container for the Rainmaker itself. Dia looked around, she wasn't even sure if it was still there, her memories were playing tricks with her ever since she woke up in sickbay the other day.

She continued, if she was correct it should be further ahead at the left side somewhere. Stepping over a strange looking box, that had a label on it 'Personal belonging of Lieutenant Huckly', she looked right and left to look for the container. It seemed she was at the part of the cargohold where some of the personal belongings of the crew were kept. And then she saw it, standing on top of some other container, a case with the initials K.D. The case was a present her brother had given her some years ago, she walked over to the container and managed to put her right thumb on the sensor that would open the lid. She was about to go through its content as she heard footsteps approaching her. Her first reaction was closing the lid of the case after which she turned around. Someone was walking there but she couldn't make out who it was.

"Who's there," was all she managed to say.

He stood and took a few steps to test the knee then un-clipped the sling on the scabbard and clipped it to his belt.

When Estaban had a reinforced scabbard made for his épée he had his knee in mind. The medical could put it to rights again then what would he do with the sword till he could put it away. The proper way to carry it was in a sling on your belt, so he had a sling made into the scabbard that could be clipped down tight when it was not being used.

Estaban went looking for Dia, the first place he went is to the hold were they were keeping the dead. Dia was not there.

The two crewman that were tending the area looked worse then their charges, so he made arrangements for their replacements. Then gave the orders for the final preparation of those that had fallen. He would have to take care of them properly, and before Yesab's planet.

Estaban continued on his hunt for the Doctor...

"Who's there," was all she managed to say.

"And who is there? to you??" Yesab questioned.

"I am Yesab, Chief scientist, Estaban made it so. What are you doing here?" Yesab asked as he found himself face to face with her.

Dia looked at the man standing in front of her. She didn't recognize him immediately, her mind was still playing tricks with her. Wasn't this the same man that the captain had ordered to be put in the brig? Dia wasn't sure.

"I..." She paused for a moment, she knew she came here looking for something but finding her case, made her forgot what the something was. "I was about to look through this case, I've forgotten that I had it stored in here," she said as she pointed towards the case with her initials on it. "Is there something I can help you with, Yesab?"

Estaban looked him over and nodded. "Pretty bad?" he asked. "Did you come across our Doctor by chance?"

Estaban's left hand was flexing on the hilt of the sword hanging from his belt. "I haven't found her yet." Estaban was concerned where she went. There was to many dangerous places on this tin can for someone to wonder around in.

06-01-2008, 07:50 AM

Estaban had things he had to get ready, and he was looking for the Doctor, the shuttle bay was right above the Oasis which was acting as a Sickbay, so he thought he should check.

He looked around the dimly lit room, "Hello, anyone here!" Estaban called out, he could hear the echo around the caverness bay.

Hearing the voice of the captain echoing crazily off of the walls of the shuttle bay K'ndry poked his head out of one of the access panels on his Valkyrie. The pilot had been working on getting the ODN relays ripped out and replaced that way the fighter's powerplant would be able to get the power from the powerplant to the rest of the fighter. "Aye, sir," K'ndry called, sliding off of the fighter and down to the deck as he moved in the direction of the hanger doors that led to the rest of the ship.

"Good, the person I needed to talk to, first have you seen the Doctor? She wondered off and we can't find her." Estaban looked around the hanger.

"Negative, I had no need of medical assistance and so I have steered clear of sickbay to be out from under foot. My injuries were superficial and I was able to patch them myself with a dermal regenerator."

"Second, I am going to need a shuttle to make a one way trip."

Estaban was trying hard to remember the name of this new crew, he had been in a Valk drifting when the Rainmaker was brought back to life. Catrey? no that was not it. Kendry? he knew he was close. "Lt. what is your name?"

"Lieutenant K'ndry R'pas," the Caitian replied crisply. "If I may ask, what exactly do you mean by 'a one way trip', sir," K'ndry asked, cocking his head to the side. Resources on the Rainmaker were scant and K'ndry wanted to make sure that he understood his orders correctly.

"We have over a hundred dead on board, we will have to give them final honors, full burial type thing. We are coming into a Star system in a few more hours and I want to send a shuttle, pulling the procession of our dead, into the local sun. It will be a intra-system trip," Estaban answered. "The shuttle will need a working Nav, Impulse, and Tractorbeam. That's about it, to be able to run it by remote over to the cargobay door would also be right." Estaban ticked off on his fingers the different things it had to have. "Of course you might think of something else that I missed."

"If we can remote link the shuttle's helm to the auxiliary helm station on the bridge, I can rip the nav unit out of the shuttle too. More spare parts, but then someone would have to be on the bridge to manually fly the shuttle. Since I am a new person to this ship, with no real attachments to the deceased, I volunteer if that's a route you choose to go in."

"We will be at the outer edge of the system, and the shuttle will not be able to warp in so it would be hours and hours of flight time." Estaban looked over to the smashed Runabouts. "I bet we can spare a nav unit."

"Aye sir, I think that I can have something rigged up to serve the purpose in a few hours then," K'ndry replied smoothly. "When are the services to be held?"

"In about eight hours, it will take that long to have the dead laid out and ready." Estaban shifted uneasily, grasping the hilt of his sword with his left hand. "Also, from now on, to prevent other, more... distasteful names from forming, let us only refer to that shuttle as the hearse."

"Very well, sir. I can have the 'hearse' ready with more than enough time. I don't think it will be too hard to rip out the still functioning non-essentials from..." the pilot trailed off and cast an appraising eye around the shuttle bay. "That one," he said at last, pointing at the most beat-up and dinged up of the shuttlecraft in the bay. "I doubt there's much of any use left on that one anyway. But I could probably cobble it together without too many problems."

Estaban relaxed, "Good, and can I hold you to remote flying it to the cargo bay doors? There will be a tractor beam target just inside the bay, the dead will be connected to that. Once you position the shuttl... hearse, lock the tractor beam, and set the course the autopilot should be able to do the rest."

"Simple enough, sir. Is there anything else you require of me for the services," K'ndry asked. It wouldn't take that long to rip any still useable circuitry out of the dinged up shuttlecraft for spare parts. And every single ODN relay that it didn't need to operate one of the three sysems it needed. That should give the pilot enough working ODN relays to finally finish repairing his fighter after the services.

Estaban thought for a moment. "No, I think that's it. Thank-you." Estaban smiled tiredly at K'ndry, "Once this is done we will be looking at landing this beast, will you have a bird capable of flying escort for her? Phoenix will have his hands full just keeping the old girl in the air, I want to have some eyes looking around and watching for Yesab's cache. Lucy will be in the Aerowing but I would like you riding heard in a Valk."

"With the ODN relays that I'll be ripping out of the hearse I should have enough to complete the repairs on my fighter. I'll need a bit of time after the funeral services, but I can have the fighter ready, sir," K'ndry replied.

"You will get twelve hours after the funeral. I plan on this ship taking a little time to rest and recover before the landing." Estaban looked at the shuttle K'ndry had chosen. "I should leave you to your work, you have a lot to do in a very short time."

"Aye sir, I'll be getting right to work then," the pilot replied. "Will there be anything else before I begin the refit?"

"No, that will be all." Estaban turns to go and turns back around. "Yes, wait. If the Doctor wonders in, please call me, she took off her comm badge and we can't find her anywhere."

"If I might make a suggestion, sir," K'ndry began. "It might be a better use of resources to have an Engineer come up and handle the hearse refit. That would leave me free to help find the Doctor. I can track more effectively than a tricorder, between survival classes and my sense of smell," the pilot continued, tapping his nose once for emphasis. "I would only need a moment in her quarters to get the scent then I could begin tracking. If it's not an idea that you like, sir, I'll begin on the hearse refit immediately."

Estaban shook his head, "Nah, she's around here somewhere, I'll run into her bye and bye." He smiled, "besides, I'm not sure we have an engineer left to do the work. Almost the whole Engineering team was killed when the core ejected. Beckett is part of the SCE team that we carry, almost all of them are dead too."

"Aye, sir," K'ndry said, saluting sharply. "If you change your mind on having me track her down, you know where to find me. I'll get to work on the hearse right away, sir."

"Thank-you, I will keep that in mind." Estaban said as he turned to leave. At the Airlock to the main part of the ship he turned back and called out across the hanger. "And Thanks for all that you have done and are doing." Then walking out the door.

It had been a long seven hours since he had been in the hanger deck, and Estaban was about as ready as he would ever be. Now came the hardest part. To wait.

He announced to the ship over the general address system. =/\= All hands, there will be a funeral service for the fallen in cargo bay 6 in one hour. Minimum ship systems will be manned, all hands will attend. In one hour. That is all. =/\=

"Good," K'ndry muttered to himself when he heard Captain Maturin's announcement as he continued work on his fighter, still replacing ODN relays using relays that the Hearse would not need to fulfill its mission profile. He'd finished the refit and preparations for the banged up looking shuttlecraft a few hours ago and had set back to work on his fighter since he was to be riding shotgun on the upcoming planetfall adventure. Even though he wasn't techincally assigned to the Rainmaker as a crew member, nor did he particularly care that so many members of the crew had been killed, he assumed that he would be required to attend the services in an hour. That thought made the pilot sigh softly to himself. His time could be much better spent by finishing the repairs to his Valkyrie and scavenging torpedo casings from some of the runabouts and getting them loaded aboard. Instead of productivly using his time, however, he would be attending the funeral services and looking for the earliest and most convenient oppertunity to slip out and get back to work. After all, the dead were dead and would care not whether or not he showed up for their funeral.

As the Rainmaker broke atmosphere the Caitian pilot keyed in the override commands for the hanger bay doors that he had programmed into an interface in his fighter's cockpit. As the doors opened, K'ndry began running through the pre-flight checks in his cockpit and the Valkyrie lifted off of the deck. Slipping out into the atmosphere beyond, K'ndry angled his shileds for atmospheric re-entry before keying over the comm unit. "This is Gladiator One to Rainmaker, I am on station for the descent. < Cargohold >

Dia looked at his back as Yesab left the cargohold. As she heard the doors open and close, she was alone again in the rather dark cargohold. Hopefully he had taken that ensign with him she had found before. Even though Yesab had protested first, he eventually agreed upon taken the ensign to the mess hall.

Her attention went back to her personal case, she had stored here some years ago. She couldn't even remember what was in it. She repeated the process she did before to open the chest. The first thing she saw was a small, round, aluminiumlike looking item, a few little buttons on one side. She placed it aside, paying no more attention to it.

She rummaged some more in the chest, picking up a doll of some strange creature. Just as she remember where she bought it, she heard a voice, "What's that, sis? Is this how you spend your time onboard of a starship, searching through small cases?"

Dia looked up as she dropped the doll back into the box. It couldn't be, there was only one person calling her that way and she hadn't seen him in ages. She whispered, still trying to grasp it was her brother's voice she had heard, "Lachlan?"

She looked around, it was too dark to see anyone or anything in the distance. "Is that really you?" she asked with a firmer voice. She turned away from the crate and walked towards the only flickering light that was still functioning in the cargobay. "Of course it's me, who else would it be," the voice replied. Dia still didn't see anyone. She tried to determine the direction the voice came from. "How..., " she paused, "where are you, Lachlan?"

"I'm right here, sis, where I have always been." Dia turned, she was confused, she couldn't find him. "Why are you hiding?" The voice answered, "I'm not hiding, you know I wouldn't do that to you." Dia couldn't make it out, was the voice getting louder or more faint? She made a few steps closer to the chest again, looking over the other crates, she still couldn't make out where he could be.

"I think it's about time you and me went on a little adventure again, sis." Dia stood still, she had an obligation to fulfil, she couldn't just leave the ship. "Lachlan, I can't, I just can not leave this crew alone, they need my help." She almost had reached her chest again, the voice seemed closer now, "I know, sis, isn't it time you show them that?" Dia's voice broke as she looked down, "I..."

She dropped on her knees, she had located the source of her brother's voice. She picked up the little round box she had found in her crate earlier, and looked at the holographic image of her brother. Though the words, which came from the holographic figure, didn't match with the words she had heard in her head just a few minutes ago.

Her head was playing tricks with her again. She pressed the replaybutton and just stared at the image.

Dia opened one eye, and quickly closed it again. The lights in the corridor were too bright, still. She placed her forehead on her knees, shielding her eyes this way while she slowly opened them. She must have fallen asleep in this hidden corner of the corridor, unknowing how many hours had past again this time. Her head was bouncing, still. Her right arm, useless. Though it seemed she was clinging on to something she was holding in her right hand.

She opened her right hand and with her left she took out the round, small object, she had found earlier in the cargobay. She pressed on the playbutton, expecting to see her brother's silhouette again. Though this time she heard a recording: A recording of her own voice, telling her to bring the dufflebag she was carrying to the messhall. She looked beside here and indeed a dufflebag was standing next to her. Dia couldn't even remember when she recorded the small message. She pressed a few other buttons in search to find the holographic image of her brother again. Surely she hadn't deleted that, did she? The next moment she heard another recording, the location of a container. Why would she want to store the location of a container into the small recorder?

Using her good hand, she opened the bag and looked inside. She raised her head with a shock, causing more pain and nausea. She remembered now. After the funeral service she had gone into one of the other cargobays finally founding the container with the few medical supplies that were stored there.

Slowly she got up, grabbed the dufflebag and headed for the first turbolift. Hoping they would be working, otherwise she didn't know how or when she would ever reach the messhall in her state. She stepped inside and out of habit she ordered the turbolift to go to level 5. "Unable to comply," said the computervoice. Dia frowned, why wouldn't the lift let her go to deck 5? "The messhall." This time there came no voice and the lift took here to the appropriate deck.

She stepped out and slowly walked towards the messhall and entered it. The first thing she saw was the planet visable through the windowscreens. She walked through the messhall and heard the captain's shipwide that they were going to land the ship. Most people were already sitting down or laying down and when Dia found a free spot she placed the dufflebag beside her, raised her knees, planted her feet firmly on the ground and placed her arms around her knees, laying her head on her arms.

"I sir taking us in" The ship started to over lower over the plant he wanted to take the ship in slower this would mean it would take longer to land but with all the battle damage they had the last thing he wanted to was blow up trying to land on a planet.

"Ok hold onto something we are going in" there was a few seconds then they hit the planets ionosphere, normal the ship would of flow through it fine but they hit it with a hard bump that shock everyone.

The was still going through and it was shaking the hole time a few control panels had blown but nothing to bad. "ok everyone looks like we are through the wrost of it, should be there in 5mins"

Cole moved to a science station and began to tap away. He did the best he could but the sensors were like the rest of the ship, in bad shape. He deciphered as best he could what data would come up then turned to the captain in their tight little makeshift bridge.

"Sir, with the extensive damage to the sensors, and the atmospheric interference... well sir, the best we have is 28% scanning at the moment."

(Reply Esteban)

"Captain, the scans I took dont show signs of much industralization, however, I dont know how relyable these scans are. With less than a 30% scan integirty, I dont know if I would trust these sensors to find an ocean on a hydro planet, let alone tell me what a single colony consists of for any detail."

"Sir, with the extensive damage to the sensors, and the atmospheric interference... well sir, the best we have is 28% scanning at the moment."

Estaban shrugged, "do your best What did you find so far?"

"Captain, the scans I took don't show signs of much industrialization, however, I don't know how reliable these scans are. With less than a 30% scan integrity, I don't know if I would trust these sensors to find an ocean on a hydro planet, let alone tell me what a single colony consists of for any detail."

"Then we will have to rely on what Phoenix and Gladiator have reported."

The ship came down in a rough but manageable way. The landing legs extended and locked and she came to a hover just meters from the surface, the last minute scans checking if the ground would hold.

Some of the reading looked dubious, some were obviously wrong, and some were flat lines the sensors being gone all together. Finally with a prayer to the Gods the ship settled.

Even before the engines had completely shut down there were people outside waiting. After the interminable waiting of the shut down was finished Estaban was one of the first to disembark. The Chief or Leader was standing in front and he walked up to Estaban. "What is your intention on this planet." He stated no preamble, no greeting.

Estaban looked over the people, they were dressed in finery, clothes that you would not work or fight in, but they all had worried looks on their faces, some were armed some had agricultural tools but all looked determined. "We are here to refit our ship, we had to land to do so, and we knew of a supply depo here on this planet."

"It is ours, we need it to survive. The provider left it for us, so that we may have a chance." The Chief said. Estaban was more and more driven to think of him that way, the Chief of a tribe. Then the Chief said in a clear loud voice, "Praise be to the Provider!" And the crowd behind him chanted, "Praise to the Provider!"

Estaban nodded, he was laughing inside though, what would Yesab think if he saw this group. "We primarily need a place to refit. Perhaps we can trade some of the supplies we need for some you need."

"Perhaps we can, but not today. Today is the first annual festival for the Provider. Come Captain, you interrupted the feast, come bring your officers, you should all enjoy the bounty that the provider has given."

The square of the little village held rows of tables groaning with the weight of the food on them. And in the center was a lifesize hologram of Dr. Llen Yesab...

Cole looked to his captian, then to the hologram, then to the captain.

"Sir... what do we make of it?"

(Reply Esteban)

"Its... well its damned odd to me sir, but what do I know, Im one of the new guys?"

"Sir... what do we make of it?"

"The best we can." was Estaban's only answer.

"Its... well its damned odd to me sir, but what do I know, I'm one of the new guys?"

Estaban could not hold back a laugh at that, the laughter rolled across the square as his whole body shook.

When he had quite laughed himself out he wiped away a tear and said still grinning, "You think I have much experience meeting up with squatters living on a thief's horde and holding him up as their greatest benefactor?"
