Remodeling Yesab's Empire

[Flag Officer's Suite]
Estaban Maturin paced the length of his Flag Officer's Suite fuming. The conversation still going
through his head.
"Are you questioning your orders Rear-Admiral? You commandeered his ship, you promised
restitution, you were in command of a Federation Starbase when it was destroyed. And now you
question the orders of your superior officer?"
"No Sir, I just think the Rainmaker crew could be better employed in something else, like finishing
the refit of our own ship." Estaban had responded. He had tried arguing, but you don't argue with
your boss, it gets you nowhere.
"Your orders are, as soon as the relief effort from the mess you made of Camelot Station is
cleaned up you will escort the SS Imperium to Xavier Fleet Yard where your ship the USS
Rainmaker will be taken in hand by the Fleet Yard personnel and you and your crew will rebuild
and remodel the Imperium according to her owners wishes."
Estaban was furious, he paced back and forth. Temp City was just about empty now, once crews
were sorted out and people were returned to the proper ships.
How in God's little green apples was he going to explain it to the crew that they were going to refit
a civilian, that civilian's, ship while the Fleet Yard would be working on the Rainmaker. He
wondered if he would have a mutiny on his hands... and briefly thought about leading it...

Leaning back in her chair, she went over the letter again that she had written on the PADD. Now
that things had subdued, and people had been send back to their ships, Kuerne finally took the
time to do something, she should have done some time ago.
Writing a letter to Peter's family explaining what exactly had happened. She felt obligated to tell
them the truth. And in a way she did it, hoping she'd sleep better at night, though she knew it
wouldn't help much. No matter how she looked at the past events, no matter what people told her,
she kept feeling guilty.
She signed the letter, placed the PADD on her desk and downloaded the letter to the
maincomputer and send it his family. Crossing her arms on the table desk she laid her head down
on her arms. The tournament had been hectic to say the least, the only decent night sleep she
had was when she had staid the night in Tom's quarters on the station. And even so, she had left
him early the next morning, as one of her nightmares had woken her up and she didn't want to
wake up Tom herself.
Tom, she smiled as she thought about him. How he was able to make her forget about things that
one night during diner. She sat up straight and looked around. Where did she put her backpack?
She got up and looked in every corner of her office, it wasn't there. Surely she didn't forget it, did
she? She stood in one of the corners, leaning against the wall as she closed her eyes, tracing
back what she had done with the backpack.
Then it hit her, she rushed over to Sickbay and opened one of the cabinets, letting out a sigh in
relief as she saw the familiar backpack there. She grabbed it and headed out towards her
quarters. Arriving there, she ordered a cup of black coffee, which seems to be her favorite drink
these days, curled up on her bed, took one of the novels from the backpack and started reading.

On:
Harry was finally on her way home again, back to the Rainmaker where she felt she truly
belonged. She hadn’t liked leaving without a word to Estaban or anyone else, it was not her way to
jump ship like that. She had no idea if Estaban had been informed of the reasons she had gone,
or if when she returned she was going to be up on charges for being AWOL.
She had been told she was not allowed to talk about the mission she had just been on, but she
was not certain she could follow those orders and stay out of the brig. Harry truly hoped that
Estaban would understand that she was not allowed to talk about it even to him, she also truly
hoped that he would allow her to continue to serve aboard the Rainmaker. She had never hated
her godfather before but right now she hated him for putting her in this position, she had managed
to complete the mission he had given her but had been wounded while doing so. So although she
was returning to the Rainmaker she was not certain that Dia would clear her for duty, the wounds
had not yet been looked at by a doctor Harry had stitched them herself.
They were still 4 hours away from Starbase 72, although they were going to have to land on
Cestus III due to the strange storm that was currently battering the station. Harry had not felt
nervous in a very long time, but right now she was so on edge it was stupid. After all she was
returning to where she belonged, the one place she truly considered home even though she did
not have anyone in particular waiting for her.
3 1/2 hours later
The pilot called back to Harry that they were almost there and to get her things together, he would
land only long enough to let her off and then he was straight back out of there. Harry didn’t have
much with her just one change of clothes and a guilty conscience, she had told her god father that
next time he had dirty work that needed doing he best call his son as she was not bailing him out
again. If Starfleet Command got wind of what she had just done to get him out of trouble, . . . . . .
then her career would be over and she could very well end up in prison. As it was he was going to
have to retire over the situation, he had misplaced top secret documents and files. Those files had
been found by the wrong person and that person was blackmailing him, after Harry’s visit to them
they were no longer in the position to blackmail anyone. Mainly because there was nothing of him
left, Harry had committed murder to save her godfather from charges of treason and she was
forcing him to retire.
The shuttle landed and Harry disembarked and walked straight into a waiting security team.
“Ma’aM we have been sent to ensure you reach the Rainmaker quickly and securely.” the team
was lead by LT jg Man, Ensign’s Leber and Silar were also there as were PO1’s Solomon and
Stubbins. It looked more like she was under arrest than merely being escorted to her ship.

toreQ coughed as he stirred awake and tried to sit up but was still weak. He did feel better
otherwise though, the pain in his chest and torso was nothing more than an ache now. He took a
few breaths, lookinf around him in the medical room the nurses seeming occupied. He tried
getting up again, shaking slightly he managed to push himself off the bed. He tried to stand and
realized immediatly he couldn't feel his leg for a reason, it had been numbed and as soon as he
attempted to stand on it it gave out with a shot of pain more than the pain medican could numb.
He gripped the edge of the bed and taking a few gasping breaths he grabbed a rolling table and
started to push himself out of medical on it and his good leg. Why he was leaving when he knew
his leg needed treatment, was more to get a break from the medical prison he had been spending
so much time in.

Kain was in his quarters, no one had replaced him, so he still had his quarters. Everything was
boxed up, ready for storage, waiting for unpacking. It was cold and uninviting now. The lights were
dimmed, and a glass of whiskey on the rocks was on the desk. There was silence except for an
occasional heavy sigh as Kain fought with himself.
He had been sitting infront of his desk for nearly an hour. Contemplating, debating, whether or not
to call home. He could call home now, but what would he say? What could he say? Grabbing the
glass, he took another drink of it, then set it down and opened the channel. He was going to have
to wing this.
The channel opened, and a woman in her 30's answered the call. "Doctor Kelly N-Kain!" Kelly
shouted, looking at her brother. "Where the holy hell have you been, young man?! It's been a
year."
"I don't want to have to justify myself with you, Kelly." Kain snapped, "I want to talk to Logan."
"He's at school right now." She said stiffly, crossing her arms. Kain felt like he'd been hit swiftly in
the gut. School? Since when was he old enough to go to school? Apparently, this was evident on
Kain's face. "He's been in school for six months, Kain, something you would know if you contacted
him more than once a year. And what has been going on? We tried to check on you, and they
said you weren't in the Corps anymore, but you didn't contact us, you never came home..."
Kain sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "I couldn't. I couldn't come home, Kelly, I couldn't
contact anyone."
"Why not? We were worried sick about you. You disappeared out of the galaxy for a year. You
could have been injured, you could have been dead, you could have been in jail, and we wouldn't
have known. Your son cried himself to sleep for a week straight after you missed his birthday, and
after you missed Molli's..."
Kain's gut twisted inside of him and he frowned, "I couldn't help it. I couldn't tell anyone what was
going on."
"What's two vid-messages? To tell your son you love him? To tell him you're still around? You
abandoned him, Kain, you abandoned your son."
Kain growled and threw his hands up. "You think I don't know that?! You think it didn't pain me
every day?! I LOVE THAT KID! I didn't have a choice! Not two vids, not one vid, no contact. I
couldn't risk it."
"Risk what?"
"Your lives." Kain said flatly, running a hand through his hair.
Kelly paused, looking at Kain with a now scared look. "What's going on, Kain?"
"I can't explain, but you weren't involved. They don't know about the family."
"What's going on, Kain?!" Kelly asked again. "You disappear for a year, out of the corps, then call
back wearing your uniform again, saying you couldn't call because it would risk our lives, and you
think 'I can't explain' is explanation enough?"
Kain rubbed his face with his hands. "Kelly! If I could explain in depth, I would." He paused,
thinking about it. "No, actually, I wouldn't. But that's neither here nor there. It's not healthy for you
to know what I was up to. Right now, though, I'm safe, I am in the corps, heck, I got promoted to
Major..."
"And that makes everything better?"
"As better as I can make it..."
"Explain that to your son."
"I would if you'd let me talk to him!" Kain yelled, then stopped and sighed. "Forget this. Kelly, tell
him I'm alive, tell him I love him. I'll call back in a day or two." Then he punched the com panel to
close the line. Family...
He grabbed the whiskey and took another sip as he thought about the conversation. But the
conversation only pissed him off. He growled and flung the glass tumbler across the room,
watching it shatter against the wall. He gave up a year for his Federation, risked his life, his safety
and his freedom, and what did he get? A promotion, a ship full of people who don't trust him, and
worse family situation than before. Just lovely.

ON
[USS Rainmaker: Deck 1: Bridge]
He’d spent the last hour rerouting programs, adding buffers and even running a few tactical
simulations at the tactical console. It had been Lt. Cmdr. Harry Chant’s post, which still felt quite
odd to him. He’d been told Harry had been reassigned, but for how long…that was the question.
Tom felt he was only holding the fort for her, long enough for her to return if she did and at which
point he’d step aside.
The weapons arrays hadn’t been completely repaired before they’d left the station, though the
shield systems had. He missed the old deflector screens that could be raised around the bridge
and two other decks. It would have added a bit more protection, but doing so would have drained
power from the ship’s engines. Ships weren’t built like the ones in the day, he had to admit. The
ships in the Fleet now were in ways better, but in other ways lesser. The crews were where it
counted though, but at that moment he wished he had been working on the tactical routines of a
Constitution-Refit or even one of those Excelsiors. There wasn’t any doubt in Tom’s mind the
Intrepid-class could run rings around both of those combined, and where it couldn’t outgun them it
could pin-prick them to death with those bio-neural gel packs installed.
“Run it again…we’ll get these systems straightened out,” Tom said, watching yet again as a
torpedo missed an asteroid in one of the simulations. The targeting sensors had zeroed in on the
center of the simulated asteroid and the simulated torpedo had missed it by at least three meters
which meant the launching mechanisms weren‘t synchronized right. “Come on, work with me here
computer…”
“Invalid request. Please, specify,” the computer chimed. It was starting to get to him, that
friendly natured voice of the computer. What he wouldn’t give to have the old lifeless, monotone
voice of the Terpsichore’s computer…though if the galaxy was any sense of justice, the
Terpsichore was probably gathering dust in some galactic junk yard. Or some aficionado’s
collection.
“Computer, I want you to realign the coils and other mechanisms of the photon launchers again
by…three meters. Synchronize them with the targeting sensors and give me a report when its
finished,” Tom explained, sighing a little. Even twenty-fourth century computers left a lot to be
desired from, as far as being cooperative went. “Where’s a team when you need it…”
“Please, specify,” the computer chimed again.
“Continue progress on the original request,” Marek replied. He’d almost said something he
would have regretted, but refrained at the last possible moment.

Office of Talus Rel
SFA, San Fransisco, California, Sol
Having already had a slightly emotional goodbye with his students, Talus was now clearing out the
last of his things from his office. He had been offered an opportunity he couldn't pass up and he
wasn't sure when he would be able to return. He knew that Dr. Steven's was more than capable of
finishing his class schedule and that his students were in good hands with him. After placing his
last picture in his crate he sat in his chair for what would be the last time in awhile. He withdrew a
PADD he always had handing began to write out a letter to his best friend since he wasn't sure
when he'd be seeing her next.
[COMMUNIQUE]
[TO: COMMANDER MOLLY KANE]
[FROM: LIEUTENANT TALUS REL]
Dear Molly,
I feel as though I've been a horrible friend lately as I haven't written you in ages. I just heard earlier
today about what happened to you on the Havers and if I had more time today I'd look into giving
you a call. Unfortunately my transport out leaves in a half hour, and as usual I'm still running
behind. Just finished packing my office. I've been offered the opportunity to assist the crew of an
Intrepid class starship, the Rainmaker I believe, who have been put through the ringer mentally.
You know me, always out to help everyone. So I'm sorry that I probably won't be able to meet you
for lunch once you get back to Earth, but I'll make it up to you when I get back.
Once I get to my next post I plan on writing Tabby too. I haven't heard from him in ages and
frankly it's got me a bit worried. You know how he can get. Hopefully Becca's keeping him in line.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know where I'm off to in case you need me. I promise to call once
I get settled, so tell that brute of a husband to be expecting it. Anyway, I'd better get moving before
I miss my boat out of here.
Talk to you soon,
Talus
[END COMMUNIQUE]
He tapped send and placed the PADD in his private things. After sealing up his crate he left his
office. Stevens had already promised to place most of his things in storage until he was sure or
not whether it would be a permanent posting or not. This was another chapter in his life that was
sadly coming to a close, but it meant another was about to begin.
Arrival at the USS Rainmaker
Talus had luckily enough caught his transport and made it to the ship in fairly good time. As he
exited the boat, he slung his travel duffel over his shoulder and looked down at the PADD
containing his orders. He needed to report in to Rear Admiral Maturin before stopping in to meet
the Chief Counselor he would be working with on this venture.
He checked in with the claims officer who assured him his personal belongings would be stowed
for him. He offered his appreciation before continuing onward in search of the CO and CC.

JP By Kain and Talus
Kain had left his quarters after his com to Earth. He couldn't stay there and brood on it. So, he left
to brood on it elsewhere. He wasn't going anywhere in particular, just walking. He didn't want to go
to Marine Country, because the boys didn't really trust him that much anymore. Rubbing his face
as he walked, he wondered if they ever would. Until then, he'd just go walking. Round the corner,
past the transporter room, hrm, someone in a blue collar was coming out. That was unusual.
Talus hadn't been on an Intrepid yet, so the layout was a little different than he was used to. He
spotted a green collared marine walking his way and he couldn't help but smile a bit, Beterli
surfacing for a brief second. He lifted his hand in salutation, "Excuse me, do you know where I
could find," he looked down at the PADD in his hand. "Rear Admiral Maturin?"
Kain stopped, looking at the blue collared man, Trill. His bloodshot eyes quickly assessed the man
for any threats, a bad habit from the criminal underground. "I believe he'd probably be in his
Ready Room. Come on, I'll show you." Kain said after a moment, "Just transferring in?"
He smiled warmly at the Major and nodded, "Indeed. I was teaching at the academy but I've been
looking for an excuse to get back on a ship for awhile now." He often felt that sharing a little bit
about himself without giving away too much was a good way to start gaining trust early. It wasn't
just his past host experience that told him Marine's were particularly hard on Counselors.
Kain nodded and headed towards the turbolift. "What'd you teach? You're obviously in the
sciences. Plant, person or mineral?"
He chuckled softly and shook his head, "Well my first two years I was in sciences, but I haven't
studied them in a long time. Actually I tought Advanced Psychology and the Advanced Study of
Alien Psychological Mechanics." He kept the smile on his face, but waited for the reaction. Trills
weren't often counselors, but then again that wouldn't really matter. People didn't like counselors
and would more often than not avoid them before avoiding a real Doctor.
Kain twitched slightly. "Alien by whose standard? You, to me, are alien, and I, to you, am alien."
Counselor. Just as long as he didn't try shrinking his head. Or notice that you're smashed...
"Exactly," he said with an appreciative nod. "Most people don't get the finer points of the subject.
Alien can very much range from different species to simply the unfamiliar. "So what can you tell
me about the crew here Major?"
"Good crew. Except Commander Beckett, who is certifiable. Small crew, so it's a giant
dysfunctional family." Kain explained, And who's the redheaded stepchild? "Shush, I'm not..." Kain
said very quietly, then growled in the back of his throat.
"Commander Beckett eh?" he said as his smile faded only slightly. "I guess I should schedule an
appointment with her ASAP." He laughed again, it was a calming deep laugh that suggested he
felt rather comfortable in his new surroundings. The soft exchange between Kain and himself
wasn't lost on Talus, but from what he'd heard this crew had been through hell so he knew his
work would be cut out for him. "Sounds a bit like my old crew," he said a bit wistfully.
"In what way? That we're a big family? Or a dysfunctional one." They entered the turbolift.
"Bridge."
"Both actually," he said with a slight sigh as he followed his marine companion into the turbolift. "I
think the dysfunctionality makes for a closer knit crew which in my opinion equals a higher morale.
My old crew was always up to something." He looked over at the marine and held his hand out for
a shake, "I'm incredibly rude, I appologize. Talus Rel."
Kain looked over, remembering now that he hadn't introduced himself either. He grasped the hand
and shook it. "Kain Sheridan. And dysfunctionality is all well and good until you want to function.
Then there are issues." You're just bitter because they don't trust you. "I'm not bitter."
"It's a pleasure to officially meet you Kain," he said. "I hope you don't mind me addressing you by
your first name. I've always felt that certain formallities detract from a friendly atmosphere." He
nodded to Kain's next words, "That is a good point as well, but the sign of a good crew is the
balance between dysfunctional family and functional work ethic." He didn't seemed phased by the
bitter comment. He was intrigued by the Major and he made a mental note to check into his jacket
when he got the chance. He had his suspicions.
"First name's fine, off duty at least. As for the sign of a good crew...We'll see how that goes. At
least Beckett and I didn't kill each other during the tournament." Not for lack of trying. Kain actually
grinned a little at that. "So that's plus one on the side of work ethic."
"Indeed," he said with a grin. It recalled memories of himself and Tabris for awhile before they
finally grew to be friends. "So anything I should know about the Admiral? I've only served under
one, and he was quite a bit different than other's I've met while at the academy."
Kain rubbed his neck thinking of how to describe Maturin. "Admiral Maturin is a good guy, very
loyal to his crew. He likes wine, and he likes swords, and he's a bit of a shanty-man."
"Sounds like a man after my own heart," he said with a grin. Gradin Rel had run a successful
vinyard for quite some time, and Faylar Rel had fancied himself a buccaneer in his frieghter days.
"I look forward to meeting him. Is there anything else I should know about the rest of the crew?"
"Well, there's Dorella, who's an interesting lady, but has some scary counselling tactics. And I
don't think she particularly likes me anymore." Kain shrugged, "Had a nasty run in with that. And
then there's Marek, not sure what his deal is. Good officer, very quick thinking on his feet. Don't
know if he really likes me either." And can you blame them? "Can't blame 'em..."
"Dorella? That must be Counselor Allerod, my boss while I'm here," he made a mental note there
too but smiled none the less. He nodded as Kain spoke, taking in not just his words but his tone.
He noticed the slight change as the last phrase slipped out.
"And I don't really know anyone else." Kain said, looking over. "They all transferred in while I
was...away."
"Ah," he said with a nod. "Well even a small heads up is a good one. It's definately rough being
the new guy. Especially when you are in a position that most people tend to avoid like the black
plague."
"Can you blame anyone? There's always, always been a horrible stigma related to mental
disorders. And even though counselors aren't just into fixing mental disorders, you know, also just
counselling in times of stress, you're still seen as head shrinks and, with the stigma of mental
illness, avoided like the plague."
"Oh I didn't say I blame anyone for the avoidance, but it does make it harder to make friends," he
said with a slightly sad smile. "I think the thing I hate the most is being lumped in with any ol'
counselor, I tend to employ much different methods than the typical shrink. I believe that
everyone, myself included, has a little crazy in them," the smile with his words held a slightly
hidden meaning.
"It's not the people who admit they're insane that you have to worry about." Kain replied, looking
over, "It's the ones who vehemently deny it." Like you?
"I don't worry about who's crazy or not," he said with a knowing smirk. "I figure no one can be
crazier than I am."
Kain laughed, "I think this ship might just prove you wrong." He replied as the doors opened to
reveal the bridge. "Maturin's ready room is on the left."
"We'll see. Thanks again Kain. I look forward to chatting again soon," that smirk was still there.
He reminds me of another jarhead I knew back in boot. Talus shook his head slightly at Beterli's
comment, knowing the old jarhead would never let go his years in the corps. He headed over to
the ready room and hit the chime.
Kain watched for a second, then hit the 'lift button to go down. He had no reason to be on the
bridge, and he wasn't on duty, so it didn't matter. "Deck 3." A new counselor, but one who seems
to be utterly nuts. He doesn't seem so bad. "We still don't trust him, Murphy." Of course not, but
maybe cards? "If he plays..."

back against the wall of the lift, crossing his arms over his chest, a slight smirk on his face.
"Deck 2," he said simply. He wouldn't be surprised if this turned into a wild goose chase designed
to confuse or initiate the 'new guy'. He had been in this position before after all. Beterli grumbled
something intelligeble about being hazed after all their time in, but Talus stiffled it. The last thing
he needed was his former hosts resurfacing in an embarrassing way. Thus far he hadn't seen any
other Trills that might pose a problem similiar to his and Tabris' first meeting.
As the lift came to a smooth stop and the door opened, Talus stepped out. There obviously
wouldn't be much to this deck other than the Admiral's personal office. He paused to rethink about
checking in when he saw a big group of security officers exit the lounge and head toward the
turbolift. He stepped to the side to let them pass. It wasn't lost to him the look they gave him as
they strode by. Talus was honestly surprised they didn't ask him for his identity and why he was on
Deck 2 before they all climbed aboard the lift to leave.
Feeling it was a sign of something important going on, Talus debated waiting a few moments to
be sure the Admiral wouldn't be busy for something so trivial as for him to check in. He suddenly
remembered the PADD in his hand from when he had exited the transport and he brought it up to
his face. After meeting with the Admiral, he'd need to check in with Counselor Allerod and then
scope out what would be his office for the duration of his stay. After that it would be off to his
quarters to make sure his things were stowed, or at least his bags. He sincerely hoped that the
Admiral and Commander wouldn't mind his style of healing.
While he waited, he downloaded a basic personnel profile on the Admiral, to help him get a better
idea of the man behind the rank.

He gripped the edge of the bed and taking a few gasping breaths he grabbed a rolling table and
started to push himself out of medical on it and his good leg. Why he was leaving when he knew
his leg needed treatment, was more to get a break from the medical prison he had been spending
so much time in.
Redcloud was heading to Medical. It's the usual thing, she had bashed her hand open... again.
She had it wrapped up in a dirty rag she had been using to clean dirt and lubricant from out of a
small neglected area under the port side Auxiliary power reactor. She had bled quite a bit so the
rag was well spotted with the dark brown of dirt, blue/green of lubricant, and the rust red of blood
on the once whitish rag.
She saw a Klingon walking a table down the hall and knew he was not just taking his table for a
walk. She stepped in front of the rolling table bringing it to a stop. "Hi, where you walking your
table to?"

toreQ looked up, breathing heavily from his efforts. "Needed break. Get some air. Been cooped
up to long." He told her hoping she would let him roam a bit. He shifted his weight though and
gasped as pain shot up his bad leg. Pain medican was wearing off. "Mind giving me a hand, I'll
patch your hand for you?" He asked.

toreQ nodded with a sigh of relief and slowly turned and sat on the table, relieved to get off his

Redcloud rolled the table into the first turbolift she came to and said, "Deck 15."
The lift dropped, and while it was going she smiled to herself, humming just a bit, this was a bolt
hole that she kept just for herself, she had always wanted to show her 'fort' to someone but had
never had a reason to bring anyone to it. She was proud of her work, it had been done off duty
and with spare and 'broken' parts so no record of it having been built exists. She stopped
humming and spoke, "I hope you can crawl... just a short way but it is over some pipes and under
others."

toreQ watched intently, the large Klingon seeming not so large in his easy mannerisms. He sat on
the table, glad he had more than just a gown on. While he wasn't shy, it would be inappropriate
for him to be out showing himself.
When she asked him if he could crawl, he considered a moment, looking down at his bruised and
swollen knee. "I can try." He said wondering where she was taking him.

On:
Estaban looked up and gestured for Harry to enter then spoke to Man. "That will be all, Thankyou"
Ltjg Man Saluted, turned and left taking the rest of the security team with him, Harry walked into
the room and over to stand infront of his desk. "You wanted to see me Sir." she said in her flat
business tone.
She wanted to keep her emotions locked away until she knew her fate.
Estaban sat there looking up at Harry, his face stern and not telling anything. "So... sit down."
"Aye Sir." Harry replied as she took the empty seat opposite him, placeing her bag on the floor
beside her and locking her eyes forwards onto his face.
Estaban made a show of staring at the PADD in his hand. He started talking without preface.
"You skipped out to clean up a mess... without talking to me."
There was no point denying it, it was too late for that. "Yes Sir I did." she replied flatly.
"Did you at least clean up the mess?" He asked.
"I believe so Sir, though not in a way I enjoyed." Harry replied a slight touch of guilt slipping into
her tone.
"What am I to do with you now?" Estaban asked her.
Harry took a deep breath before answering him, "Well Sir there are a few charges that you can
bring me up on, I returned to face the music as they say." she said making sure to keep her eyes
locked onto his and her tone as flat and neutral as possible.
"Do you remember the type of Task Force I was put in charge of? Do you think I don't know
exactly what kind of charges I could bring on you." Estaban said with a cool indifference.
Harry sighed, "Yes Sir I know exactly what type of fleet you command, and just how much trouble
I am in right now. I also know that if you have been as good as normal at your job, that you know
where I have been and what I did. Therefore I have returned to place myself in your custody to do
with as you see fit, Sir." she replied just as cooly.
Estaban abruply stood, he walked over to the trolley and poured a golden liquor into two tumblers.
"To many of you people drink harder stuff then wine." He handed her the glass. "Will the problem
happen again?"
Harry took the offered glass, "No Sir, the person involved has had it made clear to him that he can
no longer call upon me for anything. He has also been made aware that blackmail over this
situation will avail him nothing, he will infact be retireing from Starfleet in the next few days Sir."
she stated as she took a sip of the drink.
Estaban nodded and tasted his whiskey. "Then you will not be leaving unannouced again."
"Not unless you have me thrown out of an air lock Sir." she said in a slightly lighter tone.
"If I do it will be head first." Estaban sat back. "Marek was made Chief Sec/Tac, what am I going
to do with you?"
"Well Sir, if I were in your position which thankfully I am not. I would demote me, throw me in the
brig and what ever else I could think of to make my life hell Sir." Harry said before taking another
sip of the whisky this time actually taking the time to taste it.
"So you want me to demote you and toss you in the Brig. Have Man and the large guy... what is
his name? taking turns watch on watch giving you hell?" Estaban asked.
"What I want does not come into it, you asked me what you should do. I know that for my actions
you have the power to throw me off this ship, and have me booted from the fleet as well. But I
beleive you will get more satisfaction from seeing me pay the price for my actions daily, and I
mean that in the nicest way. Sir."
"So I am a vindictive Bastard hmm..." Estaban tasted his drink again. "I was unaware."
"No Estaban that is not what I said, if you were a vindictive Bastard you would of had me dragged
here in chains. Not just heavily escourted, also this conversation would be taking place in the brig
. . . . . . not your office over a drink."
Estaban nodded. "Did you know I only asked that you be told to come to my office as soon as you
got back. I guess they wanted to make sure you got here." Estaban smiled for the first time since
she had walked into the room.
"I trained them well, that and they hate me. So what are you going to do with me, other than make
me suffer." Harry asked as she visably relaxed and returned his smile.
"I just don't know. I don't want to take the job away from Marek, he has done a very good job. But
I don't want to take it away from you either." Estaban mused. "Maybe you two could share?"
"Estaban I am happy to leave Marek in command, he has earned the rank more than once in the
last century I am sure. As for me well I can't expect to get away scott free for that stunt i pulled, so
if you and him are both in agreement I will serve as his assistant." she replied as she leaned
forwards to place her now empty glass on his desk, as she did she pulled the stitches in her
wound and could not help but yelp slightly.
Estaban sat there watching, not commenting, not offering solicitude, just watching her. he really
was not sure of what to do about his new wealth of Chief Sec/Tac, somehow putting Harry as
assistant under a Lt didn't sound like the right thing. "I will get back to you on the matter of what
your job is. We should be lifting off soon and will have time on our way the XFY to sort it out. Till
then you are off duty, something tells me you might should go by Sickbay."
Harry stood up and picked up her bag, "Thank you Estaban, am I free to move around the ship or
am I confined to quarters once Dia has finished with me?" Harry asked seriously still not
convinced she was going to get off this lightly.
"You are confined to the ship. Stay off the Bridge or any other secure location don't exit the ship...
we will be launching soon so that won't mater then, but yes, you may go where you want."
Estaban told her.
He had already picked up the PADD he had been working on when she arrived. He knew he
would like to just not give a care about it but he did have to. Some decorum was necessity.
Harry nodded "Aye Sir, thank you Sir." she said as she turned and left his office, she decided it
would be best to get all the lectures out of the way now then she could just hide in her quarters
until summond.

Harry wasn’t feeling any better about herself after speaking with Estaban, if anything she felt
worse she knew she had let him down by actions. She also got the feeling that he no longer had
the same trust in her that he had in her before her stunt, she wasn’t sure he would ever trust her
again after all he knew exactly what she had been up to and probably why.
Now she had to go face Dia and hope she would do what she could with her injuries, after all she
had stitched them very roughly herself due to their location. She had not been able to see them
properly, so had done what she could to stop the bleeding without a first aid kit.
Harry entered the lift and headed for deck 5 and sickbay, a few minutes later she was walking
along the corridor and entering sickbay. As she entered sickbay she didn’t see anyone so she
called out, “Hey Dia you here?” She waited a moment or two and got no answer, Harry hit her
comm badge =/\= Commander Chant to Commander Dianti, are you available to see a patient
right now?=/\= she asked as she sat herself down on one of the Biobeds.

Deep in the belly of the ship, Redcloud had found by accident an anomaly... wasted space. a
room three meters by four meters and three meters tall completely hidden past filling pipes and
boxed off on the other three sides by bulkheads and storage walls.
That had been over two years ago, she had slowly built it up to the cozy little hideaway it is now.
She pushed the table to a maze of pipes. "All the pipes can support your weight except that blue
one, that is the anti-mater filling pipe. Don't touch it, it's safe right now but if it's fractured then
next time we take anti-mater will be the last. The safe place is in a straight line back there. I got
to hid the table so I will be right behind you."

toreQ nodded, "Understand." He said as he slowly got off the table but still ended up dropping a
bit to the ground and catching himself on a pipe. He gritted his teeth from the pain as he slowly
began to crawl over the maze of pipes, letting her lead the direction and careful to avoid the blue
pipes. "Interesting arrangement you have." He said through gritted teeth as he scooted and
crawled.

Talus looked up from the very interesting personnel file he was reading to see a young woman
walk passed him coming from the suite. She didn't even see him, which given the look on her face
was due to being well within her own thoughts in the moment. He waited until she disappeared
into the turbolift before standing.
He strode over to the door to the Admiral's suite but he paused. He'd served under two Admiral's
directly before, but they were both completely different individuals. Tal had been more hardened in
personality where as Ryan had been a little more warm when it came to his crew, which he had
considered family. He hoped that his new boss would be a nice mix between the two. The only
way to tell would be to meet the man face to face, as personnel files were often too formal or
diluted. Talus gave a slight tug to the bottom of his duty jacket before he rang the chime.

After taking a deep relaxing breath, Talus strode into the Admiral's rather sparsely furnished suite

He stepped up to the trolley and poured two glasses of a red wine handing one to the Counselor
he sipped the other while walking around his desk and sinking into his chair.

Kuerne frowned and grabbed the tricorder, "Do you want to lay down? Or will you be okay?"
Harry just shrugged "Which ever is easier for you, might be best if take the shirt off so you can
see the trouble area."
Kuerne helped Harry removing her shirt when she saw the damage. She let out a soft sigh,
"That's quite a mess indeed." She took the scanning device from the tricorder and went over the
wound with it. "No broken ribs, two big cuts and well some stitches. Did you take something to
ease the pain?"
"No I didn't have anything with me, I didn't expect to get into any fights. Sorry about the mess, was
the only way i could stop the
bleeding." Harry replied all her normal stiffness gone.
Kuerne nodded, put down the tricorder and went to take a medical tray from one of the cabinets
and placed it on the biobed.
She took the hypospray and put a vial with a painkiller in it. "Don't be sorry, we'll get you sorted out
in no time, " Kuerne said as she pressed the hypo against Harry's neck. "That should ease the
pain while I remove the stitches and seal of the wounds permanently." Taking a pair of tweezers
from the tray she asked, "I take it, there's not much point in asking what happened?" She didn't
want to be nosy, she just wanted allow Harry to talk about it if she needed it.
Kuerne waited a moment for the painkiller to set in after which she removed the stitches that
Harry had set on herself.
"Sorry Dia wish I could talk about it, but it would end your career if you know about it and don't
report it. So I will have to deal with it by myself, that way only I can be discharged and thrown in
the brig." she replied as the pain died away to be replaced by the strange feeling of stitches being
removed.
Kuerne nodded, "Ok, I won't ask anymore. Though if you need to talk to someone either way, I'm
here." She felt sorry for Harry and it made her forget about her own troubled mind for a while. The
only thing she could do for Harry now was patch her up and be there as a friend. She scanned the
wound again, some small veins started to bleed. She picked up another device from the tray,
"Can you extend your arm for a moment, this shouldn't take long while I reattach those small
veins."
"Hey, did you know we have a new crewmember? A Klingon named toreQ, he's the marine
captain," Kuerne said as she continued. "We picked him up during the Tournament." She tried to
divert Harry's thoughts a bit. "Oh and maybe you should know this too." Kuerne now switched
equipment again and took the dermal regenerator. "Kain was at the Tournament too. But I don't
know where he ended up though."
"Maybe I should ask the captain, if he has any idea where he is, we kind of had to leave the thing
in a rush," she said as she hovered the regenerator over the two cuts, sealing them.
Harry lifted her arm as directed, "No I didn't know but then I am not exactly back on duty, in fact I
am not even certain of my future right now. I am not allowed in any restricted areas including the
bridge, I have been told I will informed of my fate once we reach the yards." Harry explained as
Dia worked, then she realised who else she had mentioned. "You saw Kain, how did he look . . .
.was he in uniform or is he still out of the corps?" she asked wanting to know what had become of
her friend.
"He looked okay, still out of the corps though." Kuerne hesitated, she wasn't certain she should tell
Harry that the only time she had seen Kain was actually in the brig.
She did a last scan and put down the tricorder. "That looks ok for now, you can lower your arm
again." She helped Harry put her shirt back on.
"You've done good things for this crew and ship Harry, I'm sure Estaban will take that into
consideration. As for Kain, he was in the brig when I last saw him. I'm sorry."
Harry laughed, "Well thats just typical of Kain, woundn't be him if he wasn't getting into trouble
somewhere. As for me I could very soon be in the brig myself, Estaban can only cover so much
up and lets just say that I have put him in a very bad position. It might of even been better if I had
not come back, but this is my home and my family I have nowhere else to go." she finally admited
sadly.
Kuerne stammered, she didn't want to see another person leave the Rainmaker. "I.., they can't put
you in the brig. Harry, you belong on this ship. Surely he sees that too. Lets both hope he can pull
some strings to keep you here. And in the mean time, I'll try to find out what happened to Kain, I'll
let you know the moment I hear something."
Harry looked straight at Dia, "I hope he feels I am worth the effort, after all I did jump ship without
speaking to him about my problems first." she said as she started to get down off the bed.
"Thanks for everything Dia, I sure have missed you guys. If you do find out about Kain I would be
greatful, if you want me for anything I will be in my quarters . . . . . thanks again." she said and
gave her a quick hug before heading for the door.
Kuerne returned the hug, she wished she could do more. "You're welcome Harry, and go easy on
those ribs, " she added. She took the tray from the biobed, bringing it back to the cabinet, she'd
cleanup afterwards.

said as he took her hand in his and looked it over. His large hand making hers look tiny.
"So what is your name? I am toreQ, joH of House Qortlh. I'm supposed to be the new Marine XO
apparently." He told her.
She dug out the regenerator and walked back up to him. "Jennifer Redcloud, Assistant Chief
Engineer." She unwrapped the rag around her hand and held it out.

toreQ nodded as he took the regenerator and holding her hand in one hand gently he used his
other hand to gently run the regenerator over the wound. "I'm guessing this happened while
working then." He chuckled as he watched the wound slowly close. "This seems like a nice ship
with a good crew. I am sure your probably proud to be on it." He said as he finished sealing up
the wound but left a minor scar behind.

Harry had made her way to her quarters she was tired and wanted a long shower, she needed to
get her head sorted out as well. She needed to try and bring herself back up out of this downcast
mood, it was not like her to be this way. She didn't mope around normally nor did she hug people,
she was getting soft and that was the last thing she could afford now.
After everything she had just gone through to save her godfather she could not afford to go soft, it
would be the end of her. The many and varied gods danm him, she had commited murder to save
his skin and all he could say was 'Good now don't talk to anyone about it, get back to your ship
and keep your head down." then he had had the cheek to just dismiss her as if she was just one
of his marines making thier report, at that point she blew a fuse and reminded him that she had
just saved his skin. Then she told him that if he had not retired within a week then she would
release all the information about what had happend and why, then they would both be up on
charges but he had more to lose than she did.
His responce was to tell her that she was no longer welcome in his home, and that she was no
longer a part of his family. He disowned her after using her to save himself, he told her if she ever
came back to his house she would be arrested for trespassing. So when she had told Dia that she
had nowhere else to go she was not lying, this ship was all she had left and the crew were the
nearest she had to a family now.
Now she sat on the couch with a bottle of romulan ale and started drinking, afterall she had
nothing better to do. She had already spent the last 20 minutes in the shower, now she felt the
overwhelming urge to get totally and utterly drunk. The way she saw it now was she was already
in more trouble thaan she could climb out of, so illeagle alcohol was not gonna make that much
difference if she was to get caught with it . Anyway she only had 6 bottles of it, all of which were
disguised as bottles of french wine in dark brown bottles which hid it's true colour.
As Harry sat there she thought back over the last few years and what had happend, she still
missed K'ndry and Kain she could talk to both of them and get common sence and a verbal boot
in the rear from them. Now she had no-one to talk to, no close friends . . . . . no family . . . . no
love interest . . .nothing. It seemed as though her last CO was right about her she had pushed
everyone away, closed herself off from everyone and everything outside of the job. Now she was
begining to realise just what a mistake that was, she couldn't help but wonder if she was the
reason K'ndry had left without a word.
The more she thought about things the worse she felt, the more she realised just what a cold hard
bitch she had been. Partly being brought up as a marine from a very early age was to blame, and
partly that she was deep down afraid of being hurt if she let anyone in. So she had always kept
everyone out, pushed them away and kept herself to herself until she had joined the Rainmaker.
And now due to her loyalty to her godfather she stood to lose everything, and everyone that meant
anything to her.
At the thought of losing everything Harry hugged her knees to her chest lay her head ontop of
them, for the first time since her mothers death she let her emotions fully free and cried. The
thought of losing everything was just too much for her to think about,so she stopped thinking and
let all her pent up fear go through her tears.

Estaban stopped."We have a Counselor."He walked across the room to the desk and looked over
the man that Starfleet had sent.First a 'cool down period' for him and the crew and now a
Counselor?
He stepped up to the trolley and poured two glasses of a red wine handing one to the Counselor
he sipped the other while walking around his desk and sinking into his chair.
Estaban leaned back in his seat in a studied pose of uncaring. "Welcome to the Rainmaker, sorry
we are in such a state but it's been a rough couple of weeks."
Talus accepted the wine taking the time to appreciate it properly. He looked at the color which
was a nice and rich crimson. He swirled it gently in the glass before sniffing the aroma to which he
sighed. He took a sip and let the liquid settle on his tongue before swallowing. "What year is this?
It's exquisite Sir," he said with a smile. "Thank you for the welcome Admiral. I'm just here to help
in any way I can. I don't understand all of what happened as of yet, just what I've heard. Which I
take with a grain of salt until I'm officially briefed."
He took another sip of the wine, quite pleased to know that the Admiral was very much the
connoisseur that Major Sheridan had projected him to be. "I will do my best not to add any extra
hassle to yourself and your crew Admiral."

[After Harry left]
Kuerne turned and sat down on the biobed. Looking around, the place was empty, out of live,
someone was missing. Her fault. And now there was this chance that Harry would be forced to
leave too. And there wasn't a single thing she could do to prevent that. She got up and walked
back to the cabinet, she intended to clean up the tray, disinfect the equipment on it and make it
ready for the next patient. She moved her hand towards the hypospray but instead her hand went
to the side of the tray and in one move she whiped the tray from the cabinet, the equipment
scattered on the floor. She got angry, why did all the good people have to go, one way or the
other?
Realizing what she had done Kuerne took a few steps back, looking down at the mess she made.
What had happened to her? She hardly used violence before, she couldn't trust herself anymore.
How could she help out her patients if she wasn't calm herself? She turned around and rushed
out, heading to her quarters. There she changed outfit and when she walked out she was wearing
her runners outfit, taking the turbolift to one of the lower decks. There was less chance she'd walk
into people there.
After a while, she had lost track of how many times she had run through the same corridor, she
was out of breath, her heart chasing in her chest. But the one thing she hoped for, having a clear
mind, didn't come. By the time she walked back to her quarters her breathing was normal again.
She went to take a shower, dressed in a fresh uniform and headed out. She had a few people to
see.
She inquired with the computer for the location of the Admiral, though when she heard there was
someone else in his suite, she changed directions. She still had to appologize to someone else.
She walked into the ops office, hoping to find Kerris there. When she spotted the Orion female
she took a deep breath and walked closer, "Do you mind some company?"

It fit in well with the other scars on her hand, it was obvious she was not a soft handed delicate
woman. "I am, the crew here are all wonderful. This ship has been through the wringer more then
once and always comes out the other side. You ready to finish crossing the pipes? There is a
chair, a puff, and a cot in the room."

"2350, it's one of my newer ones but it has a very mellow flavor... I don't think it will ever make it to
becoming one of my older collections." Estaban smiled as he sipped his wine.
Estaban dropped the pose and sat up. "Official Brief. The Rainmaker took heavy damage during
a classified mission, anything anyone tells you about that mission it to be treated as ultra secret
code black. Then on our way to take some R&R we had a hatch out of a bug we didn't know we
had carried on board, we lost a lot of very good people in that mess, we almost lost the ship and
ourselves in it too. Then we hosted the bet'leH tournament... You know what happen to the

the desk with each sentence. The poor Counselor was getting the frustration that Estaban could
not vent at the Admiralty for the mission they were forcing on him and his crew.

"A puff?" He asked, not sure what that was. But he just shrugged and attempted to get up again.
That was a task he was finding difficult in the condition he was in. He was still recovering from
treatment of the other injuries and then there was the knee. "I think I could use a hand up." He
said as he grabbed her shoulder and tried pulling himself up on his one good leg.

"A cushion filled with stuffing." She explained.
A moment later she found herself almost pulled into his lap, she wasn't braced. She re-adjusted

A Step... great... He was thinking. It took two legs to take a step, he had one. He gritted his

step over. He got over the pipe before stumb ling and crashing down on his bad leg with a yelp...
"AAggghhh!!" His bad knee hit a hot pipe and he curled in pain his hands going to the knee
protectively which now had a gash in it with the shine of his metal joint showing through. He
gasped and held the wound closed and waited for the pain to dull some before scooting across
the rest of the bars to get the rest of the way through.

"Understood Admiral," Talus said good naturedly as he didn't take his tone personally. Counselors
often took the brunt of people's emotions. "What can I expect in the way of our current mission

He wanted to know what the crew would be assigned to do next so that he could begin working up
an idea on how to best serve them around their duties. Talus knew he'd most likely have to talk
everything over with the Chief Counselor of the Rainmaker, but it didn't hurt to do a little preplanning.

probably run by your Chief Counselor, is there any crew members in particular that you know
would be most likely to avoid my services Sir?"

Estaban's finger hit the desk again... hard. "We are to remodel a civilian freighter into a luxury

and destroyed by sentient machines, we have done many other large and wondrous missions but
now we are going to remodel a freighter." The finger punctuating his phrases.

[During the end of the Tournament, USS Rainmaker, Mess Hall]
Lieutenant’s Walker and Davis were glad that the tournament was now over and that they be
getting underway soon. They didn’t want to see the ceremony that was taking place now, Flag
Officers, important civilians from the Federation and beyond we’re all gathered around discussing
how fun and exciting it was.
On the viewer, they were watching interviews when without warning some breaking news
interrupted the reporter. The camera soon switched back to FNN live coverage, apparently
something huge was about to happen. The female reporter on the screen began to speak,
“Ladies and gentleman, I’m sorry to interrupt, we got to switch now to the interior of the station
where I’m told Major General Rolf Emerson of Exodus Fleet Command is about to make an
exciting announcement.
The officers and crew in the mess hall watched as the Marine Major General approached the
podium. They noticed that he was surrounded not by starfleet security, but palace royal security
guards. Ensign Brooks leaned over to Lieutenant Davis and asked, “Why is the General
surrounded by those civilian guards?”
Lieutenant Davis didn’t have an answer for her, She leaned over and replied, “How about just
watching what he is about to say”
“Fair enough” Ensign Brooks replied.
On the viewer, the General spoke. “I wanted to wait until the tournament to announce something
that is going to shock many of you. There are some in other quarters who will be quite happy at
what I’m about to say. As you know, a few years ago, the Federation gained access to the
Andromeda Galaxy. As I’m a decorated explorer and as someone who has made his fair share of
important discoveries over the last 30 years, Starfleet choose me to sphere head our efforts in the
Andromeda Galaxy. As you know five years ago, on a routine mapping mission in the Zahdahl
Quadrant, imagine my surprised when we picked up Hadian life signs. I was amazed when we
found the New Hadian Commonwealth. I think they were equally as surprised. The leaders left me
with the impression that they never expected contact from their kind again. Of course as you will
recall the events of the last five years, we established a new starbase in the atmosphere of New
Hadian Prime, Starbase Beta. I’ve been working with them for the past five years, building a
strong bond of friendship and trust between the Federation and the Commonwealth. As you are
no doubt aware, their economy has been suffering in the last 18th months due to incompetent
leadership from their Prime Minister. They haven’t had a king in nearly 300 years and their Regent
is seriously ill and is not expected to survive to see a new year. That leaves me to this moment.”
Rolf cleared his throat and took a sip of Hadian Sea Punch and then continued, “I’ve been a
starfleet officer for 30 years. I love this uniform, I love what it represents, and I love everything
that I have accomplished because of it. For those of you who don’t know, I am a Royal Prince by
birth. I was born on Hadian Prime in the Beta/Delta quadrant 64 years ago. For a long time, I
denied my alien heritage. I didn’t want anything to do with my duties as first in line for the throne. I
wanted to go to the stars, I wanted to be in starfleet, be just like my father. I had no interest in
being King that is until now. One of the amazing experiences I had on New Hadian Prime was the
discovery of my mother’s side of the family.”
He wiped away a tear
“I had cousins there, uncles and aunts that I have come to know, well respected, wealthy, and
powerful people. It is at their urging and after discussions with members of Exodus Fleet
Command, Task Force 91’s command staff that I make this painful decision. As of today, I’m
stepping down to reserve status as a Starfleet Officer. I will still be available to Rear Admiral
T’pez and McConnell to help them make important fleet decisions and disciplinary matters, but the
majority of my time will be focused on the Hadian people as they prepare to enter the most difficult
time of their lives. Next month, I will be crowned King of the New Hadian Commonwealth. We’ve
been in talks with the Hadian’s in our galaxy and we have extended membership to them and they
have accepted. For now, there are a few places I wish to visit before returning home. I will be
meeting the CO of the USS Rainmaker who is a personal friend of mine before I head to Seabase
Poseidon in a couple of weeks. Thank you, and may the great maker watch over you all.”
Rolf and his guards left the podium. The officers in the mess hall were stunned.
“I think someone better go find the Admiral,” Davis said
“I think your right”
Rolf sat inside the guest quarters of the Rainmaker. He knew Estaban was busy and knew it was
a matter of time before he come to see him.

Harry finally stopped crying, she had been crying for nearly 30 minutes now which was most
unlike her. She could not believe she had let her guard down so far, she never cried and hardly
ever let anything get to her. She could not afford to show such weaknesses such female traits,
she had been brought up to be tougher than this.
She stood up and went through to the bathroom, she stripped off the clothes she was wearing and
recycled them. Then went into the bathroom to wash her face clean of any sign that she had been
crying, her eyes were slightly red and puffy which was not a good look. She redressed in a pair of
navy blue combats and a vest, she may not be able to work or go into any restricted areas but she
could still run.
After putting on her boots she did some stretches to loosen up and then headed out of her
quarters, making sure her comm badge was on her clean shirt so her location could be tracked if
desired. She then started her run normally she would go deck by deck around the ship, today she
would stay on decks 3 - 6 that way she should be free of trouble.
She was a little tipsy but that would soon burn off once she started running, she headed round to
the left and started her laps. She figured 20 or 30 laps would be good to start with, if her mood
had not improved by the end of 20 laps she would keep going until she either stopped moping or
she was fit to drop. She only had herself to blame for her current situation, she was lucky she was
not sitting in the brig or under guard in her own quarters right now.

ON
[USS Rainmaker: Deck 6: Marek‘s Quarters]
After having finished running diagnostics and the simulations on the torpedo launchers, Tom
had left the bridge with a relief officer at the tactical station. He’d been able to stow his bags in his
quarters after the ship had settled on the planet following the destruction of the starbase, but Tom
hadn’t had much time to find out if his old uniform still fit after the time spent on the starbase. It
was still odd to call the Monster Maroons his old uniform, but it was a sign of the times.
Stepping through the doors, the empty quarters greeted him. The quarters aboard the
Rainmaker were larger than any he’d seen on a starbase and any he’d been assigned to during
his assignments after he’d left the Academy. The doors closed silently behind him, allowing him to
size up the room. The shelves were bare and all his belongings were in two bags he’d carried
from the starbase. Unzipping the duffle bag, the maroon of the service tunic stared back at him. It
was a source of warmth, recognizable and familiar in the chaotic last few weeks. He’d been
meeting knew people, new races, and was becoming rather close with one in particular. It was
something he wouldn’t trade for if it meant going back to his own time in the twenty-third century.
*A short while later*
Standing before the only room in the main part of his quarters, Tom was glad the starbase
hadn’t spoiled him. He’d spent time polishing the boots with black boot polish and ran lint brushes
along the entire uniform before trying it on. The Monster Maroon uniform fit as well as it should
have, as did the duty tunic, the pants…boots and the belt. The only item missing was the bronze
Starfleet emblem pin that had rested on the left breast of the tunic, but he had handed to
Commander Fernandez as a sign of his transfer in the absence of official orders. Tom would have
to have another pin replicated and the lieutenant j.g. rank on the right shoulder strap was wrong.
He was a lieutenant and every single one of his uniforms had to reflect that.
“Computer, replicate a lieutenant’s rank pin circa twenty-two ninety-three and with it replicate a
bronze Starfleet pin to go on the left breast of a Monster Maroon uniform also circa twenty-two
ninety-three. If it isn’t too much to ask, could you leave both unpolished? I’d like to polish them
myself,” Tom asked, having approached the replicator. That little bit of technology, the replicator
taken for granted in this century was something he hadn’t quite gotten used to yet. Perhaps it was
out of habit, but Tom often found himself heading to the mess hall instead of replicating a meal in
his quarters. It wasn’t long before two unpolished items materialized in the tray, a lieutenant’s
bronze and silver rank pin while the other was a bronze Starfleet pin. “Thanks,”
Taking the two items from the tray, Marek set them on the dresser and pulled out a small can
of polish he’d picked up from the ship’s stores. Removing the duty tunic to reveal the dark green
departmental shirt of security or what had stood for security, he set the duty tunic on the bed.
Polishing the two pins wasn’t difficult as he’d spent time polishing them, their real counterparts,
countless times before. It was a ritual every officer in the Fleet had drilled into their daily routines
from the moment they set foot on the Academy grounds and it was something he never really
minded. It took a while to get the shine right and to where he could see himself in it. When he
could see himself in the surface of the pins, he knew he’d polished them enough. Turning back to
the duty tunic sprawled out on the bed, Tom began the meticulous task of fastening them in place.
The bronze pin went on the left breast of the tunic rather easily while the rank pin, though a little
bit more difficult, finally sat firmly on the shoulder strap.
“The officers today don’t know what they missed,…if only there was an officer on parade
formation. I do miss the old days… what am I saying? Those were only a few months ago,” he
said, before opening the duty tunic and slipping it on. After making sure the belt was secure with
the shoulder strap, Tom turned to the mirror again. With the proper rank in place, Tom grabbed
the old flip-open communicator and stuck it beneath the duty tunic. He kept both the Type-II
modern phaser on his person while the older Type-2C Assault phaser with its pistol grip was worn
tucked into its holster beneath his left arm. ‘I wonder if the Horatio’s on record in the ship’s
database,’ he thought. The Horatio may have been a Miranda class Destroyer, but it had been his
first duty assignment and one where he’d been a green-gilled ensign fresh from the Academy in
the late twenty-two eighties.
Stepping out of his quarters, the doors close behind him and the lieutenant in a century old
uniform made his way towards the nearest turbolift. He’d remembered to wear the combadge
beneath the duty tunic, in case anyone needed to find him. Who knows, he might run into
someone who might want to join him on an old ship from the twenty-two eighties. There had been
a few glances from some of the crew along the way, mostly from how someone in a century old
uniform could be so confident or simply how unique a sight it was. Most if not all the officers in the
Starfleet today had read about officers in Monster Maroons in textbooks in class or had seen
movies about them.
[Deck 5: A short time later]
Crossing through the corridors on Deck 5 after the turbolift had dropped him off, Tom had met
a few more glances of either surprise or outright curiosity. If the uniform had been replicated, it
wouldn’t have been worn so naturally or been so meticulously…ritualistically cared for which only
seemed to encourage the curiosity from various members of the crew. ‘Let them look,’ he thought.
‘It’s probably the first time any of them have seen an authentic uniform like this,’
It didn’t take him long to come across the holodecks, only to cause the Marek to take a double
take as a person he thought was on special assignment came around the corner in jogging attire.

“Welcome back, Harry. We missed you and I’m glad you’re not any worse for wear. I’m as well
as can be expected, and the tournament was a learning experience. I managed to make a few
friends from some of the other fleets that attended,…an Alpha Fleet for one. I didn’t see myself
breaking up a bar full of drunken klingons, but that was pretty fun by the way,” Tom explained. “I
think I’ll take being a ship’s security officer over being in charge of station security. I don’t think I
managed to get more than maybe three or four hours of sleep a night during it. I’m not sure if you
knew this guy, but Dorella, Kuerne and the Admiral did. It seems a Major Kain is back aboard. I‘m

surprised at the news, "And yes I would love to join you on the Horatio as long as it is not a
program that is classed as restricted, I am not allowed on any part of the ship that is classed as
restricted which will include holodeck programs. I may be here but I am not on duty, nor do I yet

“You’re not allowed in restricted areas? Do I dare ask why or is it something else I don’t have

that famous a ship,” he heard her ask about Kain. “He came aboard after we ran into him on
Starbase 72 during the tournament. I’m not exactly sure where he is at the moment, but I don’t
imagine he’d be that difficult to find on a ship this size. From what I’ve seen of him,
he’s…interesting. I don’t know enough about him to make any real judgment,”
He had been about to check the computer’s records to see if the Horatio were there before
stepping inside the holodeck. “Computer, find any reference on the USS Horatio NCC-One-Eight-
Three-Three, Miranda class circa twenty-two eighty-seven,” he asked a bulkhead mounted
interface.
The computer searched its databanks for what seemed a while until it the words “USS Horatio
NCC-One-Eight-Three-Three was not found,” flashed on the screen. It figured, the ship was older
than the Terpsichore by at least two decades and he should have suspected it might not have
been in the databanks.
“Why am I not surprised by that? It seems it isn’t,…I thought I’d walk the corridors of the first
assignment I had and relax on the bridge. It’s not really a problem though and truth be told, I
haven’t quite gotten used to the holodecks,” Marek said, turning to Harry. “Anywhere else you’d

"I can get almost anything from my replicator, you want something?" She pointed at a skeletal
framework with pipes, wiring and components lashed onto it in odd places and two tricorders that
had seen better days interfaced into the whole thing.[/i]
toreQ made a face, he had forgotten about that. "Forgot you humans ate from them things. I
don;t suppose you have anyone abaord ship that makes real food do you? For now, see how
accurate it can make bloodwine. Bloodwine is good for a Klingon's healing." He said.

toreQ chuckled at the question. "Many things actually. It's a long story, and perhaps one day I will
give it all in detail." He took the mug and drank a bit, making a face that said he wasn't crazy
about the results. But he drank it anyways. "During the Dominion war I was a foot soldier on an
outlining world of the Klingon empire. I was leading a troop of men and our job was to defend the
world and rid of the Jem'Hadar who had set foot on it. So we came up with a plan..."
He took a drink as he got a bit lost in the story. "A foolish plan, but at the time we thought it would
be smart. Even the grounds. Our plan was to set off an EM bomb in the enemy camp, take out
their equipment and weapons except for bladed weapons of course."
Shifting his weight he winced slightly. "It worked... to well." He chuckled. "We got the bomb in
there and set it off, but we were warriors not scientists or engineers, we miscalculated how large
the blast zone would be and didn't know the effected zone would be several times larger than the
visible blast zone. Can you guess what happened?"

[ Corridors, on the way to the mess hall]
For the first time in his life, Rolf felt extremely useless. On any other ship, officers would always
stop and talk to him. That hasn’t been his experienced so far. Estaban told him the day before
he’d be treated like an honored VIP aboard his ship. So far, he hadn’t felt that way.
He knew of their mission to work on some civilian freighter, for what purpose, he wasn’t sure of.
He then had a choice, bury himself deep in the Royal protocol document, or go out and about to
see what the crew was up to.
When he was on active duty, he always had his senior staff to talk to. He never mingled amongst
the lower ranked officer. As he was stlll apart of Exodus Fleet Command, he could still make
himself somewhat useful. He looked over to Seth, who served as chief of palace security on
Hadian Prime. He looked to him and said, “I’m going for a walk. I’ll be back soon.”
Seth, the middle aged Hadian officer motioned for two of the guards to snap to attention, “Sir, we’ll
secure your route for you.”
“Seth, relax my friend. I’m aboard a Federation starship. I feel perfectly safe. You and your men
take a break for a while, enjoy yourselves.”
“Your majesty, with all due respect, royal protocol dictates that you have security with you
everywhere you go.”
“If we were on New Hadian prime that would be well within your rights. However, we’re aboard a
Federation starship managed by starfleet officers. I will be fine. I may not be on active duty any
more, but I’m still technically their superior. I am a reserve starfleet officer now.”
“About that sire, are you sure your enemies won’t use that to try and discredit you?”
Rolf allowed a chuckle to dawn on his face, “My friend, they’ve already tried and I’m happy to
report my new friend Admiral Jellico shot them down and put them in their place.”
The four guards were stunned by the revelation. They had heard horror stories of how Jellico
treated their prince, now Regent in the past. “It’s unbelievable.”
“I’d fill you in on it later, right now, I’m off to the mess. You can come if you want, if not, I can
arrange for someone to give you a tour of the ship.”
“That won’t be necessary majesty, call us if you need us.”
“You bet”
Rolf grabbed his Royal Coat and put it on his collar. The pins that were attached indicated that he
was the Royal Regent. He had a blue stat bar on the left side of his shirt, indicating he was in the
royal court. Had the stat bar been gold, it would be nice to mingle with the junior officers as he
headed for the mess hall.

pushed himself up onto the bed. "You know where to get reall food around here?"

With the Rainmaker departed, Bryon opened a ship wide Comm Channel, "All Senior Staff please
report to the Briefing room in Half an hours time, Thank you."
He went to the Captain's Ready room to wait, he had had plenty of sleep lately, so that wasn't
something he needed to catch up on, but Reports could be dealt with.
He sat down and started going through reports, it was quite a job he had, He wasn't quite sure
why he decided to take the Command path instead of going up the Engineering ranks.
He sat there, the reports where boring him out of his mind, this was going to be a long Half hour.

Estaban looked at Talus blankly."How about if I just hand you the crew manifest, it's the same
thing."Estaban dropped all pretense and took a slug of the wine before setting down the glass.
Talus nodded, albeit a bit gravely as the Rainmaker did indeed present a challenge. Though he
was starting to wonder if this would be a challenge he'd truly be up for.
"I won't blow sunshine up your butt and tell you that we are a cooperative group. I think the only
people better then Security for getting out of talking to the Counselor is Engineers, and Command
Staff of course have both of them beat."
"Understood Admiral," he said as he too finished his wine and placed the glass gingerly down on
his desk. "I will do my best to not get in the way, however, the mental health of those I serve with
is my top priority so I will do the job I was sent here to do Sir. You have my word on that." There
was no challenge in his voice, simply a humble promise to his superior officer for the time being.
[tag]
"Understood Sir," he said with a nod. He would now leave the Admiral to his own thoughts. He
knew he should introduce himself to the Chief Counselor to get a better feel for things, but he had
the urge to explore the ship a bit. He entered the turbolift and rode it back down. As he stepped off
he realized he was a bit lost and was somewhere near engineering. He spotted a rather striking
redhead and called out to her, "Excuse me, " He searched her collar for pips before continuing,
"Commander. Do you know where Sickbay is?"

"You didn’t interrupt my off-time, and I’m never so busy as to ignore a brother or a friend’s call.
You really don’t listen to doctor’s orders, do you? Come along then,…” Tom said, after finding
Junction 12 and toreQ. “You won’t make it to the turbolift and to Sickbay on a leg like that,” he
said, seeing toreQ’s leg bloodied and torn. “Marek, to Sickbay. Two to beam directly to Sickbay
and have a trauma kit ready. I’ve found toreQ. Lock onto my combadge,” Tom tapped the
combadge open. Reaching over to help toreQ, he let him lean against him and supported his
weight.

After her talk with Kerris, Kuerne was wandering around the ship. She didn't feel like going back to
Sickbay, the empty place gave her a creepy feeling ever since she got back. After a small rendezvous
with the admiral she was on her way to find Kain when her combadge went off and was
informed that there was a medical emergency in the place she was avoiding.
She tapped her combadge, as she hurried back to sickbay. She had promessed Harry to let her
know if she had more news about Kain. =^= Dianti to commander Chant, "Harry, it seems Kain is
onboard the ship, he got re-instated." =^= She closed her combadge. A few moments later she
found herself in the turbolift that took her to deck 5.
As she entered sickbay she looked around and walked towards Marek and toreQ, grabbing a
tricorder as she got closer. She shaked her head, "What do I have to do to keep you out of trouble
toreQ?" She hovered the scanning device over his knee and give him a mild painkiller. "It looks
like I'd better start that surgery now instead of postponing it further." She looked up to toreQ, "Any
objections?"

toreQ looked up at her and gave her a Klingonish grin despite his condition. "No objections at all
Lady. Sooner can use the leg the sooner I can teach your man how to use a blade." He
chuckled, with his known humour.

“A pleasure, Kuerne. I hope we didn’t interrupt your off time,” Tom said, looking up to find Kuerne
had arrived. “I found toreQ on Deck 15, Junction 12 and if we could keep him here I have no
doubt he’d find some way to get around it,” Tom smirked. “Let’s get your leg fixed and as for blade
practice? Would that armor worn during the tournament be necessary? Only as long as you don‘t
involve some of those…what were they? Jem‘Hadar holographic projections,”

Kuerne looked up at Tom's inquery, "Don't worry about it, I wasn't doing anything special." She
looked into his eyes while adding softly, "Just be careful you don't get hurt." She had seen the
wounds inflicted by the Klingon weapons and even though she had come over her biggest fear of
those things, it was still partly there.
She focussed back on the scans she had just made on toreQ's knee, pulled up some other data
on the tricorder and studied them, while going over in her head what needed to be done. She
picked up a tray and placed the equipment she was going to need on it and than placed it on the
side of the biobed. "A local anestetic will be fine." She looked at toreQ, smiling, "Unless you don't
want to hear the comments I'll be making?"

"Thank you Regent Emerson, would you care to sit with us for a drink, and maybe something to

“Some Tespa, and some Hadian Sea Punch.”
Tespa was a pasta like dish in some type of sauce which resembled Spaghetti sauce from earth.
As the waiter brought their orders, Rolf admired the officers he was sitting with.

Kuerne nodded as she injected a local anesthetic. "Thanks for bringing him in Tom, I'll let you
know when the surgery is done or you can wait in the office."
She then walked away for a moment to prepare herself for the surgery and to replicate a new
metal joint using the measurements she had taken from the scan though she had made some
minor adjustments, so it would fit better on the tibia.
When she came back she made sure the knee and the surrounding tissue was numb. She
positioned toreQ's leg better so she could work easily and took the laserscalpel from the tray and
activated the steri-field.
She focussed on the task at hand, her hands switched devices as the surgery made progress.

"Ok, things look good. Providing you stay off your feet and let your knee heal from the surgery the
next hours. I'll replicate a knee bracer for extra support that you should be wearing the following

“I’ll be careful…on that you have my word,” Tom said, smiling as he felt Kuerne’s eyes on him. He
could have said something cheesy at that moment such as a Marek’s word was as strong as
steel, but it seemed too cliché. “I’m learning about this new century day by day…moment by
moment,” He secretly wondered what his father would say about his son befriending a klingon,
and there wasn’t any part of him that wanted to forget that officer that trained him through the
corridors of the Pandora as a child.
“You’re welcome, Kuerne. I had started to wonder what had become of him, and it seems he
only wanted to flex his legs a bit. He only wanted to get to know his new ship in person. You
should stay here in Sickbay to let that leg heal, toreQ,” Tom replied. “I’m sure he’ll stay here in
Sickbay and follow doctor’s orders,” he smiled. “I’m sure toreQ will be fine without someone
watching over him. Now, toreQ…you behave and don’t give Kuerne a hard time,” he said with
good humor, knowing they were all friends and closer. “I’ll be in touch, and I should probably
switch into a different uniform. The odd stares have started to become unnerving lately,” he
smiled, before turning and heading for the doors leading out of Sickbay.

Then he looked to Kuerne, "I will try. But never know what will come up." He sighed, "Thank you.
Hopefully this will be it. 3 replacements since the Dominion war, I seem to ride hard on these

=^= Regent Emerson’s quarters, ten minutes later =^=
The party exited the turbo-lift and entered. Some of the Hadian’s present were stunned that
another starfleet officer they hadn’t met entered the room with Rolf. Right away, their faces
screamed objection. Rolf raised his hands.
“It’s all right, the commander here is authorized by me to sit in on this briefing.” Rolf turned to
Seth, “It should be about that time right Seth?”
“Yes sir, the bridge told me that you have a secured connection home.”
Rolf turned to Harry, “Commander, you’re about to experience the first inter-galactic
transmission.”
On the screen, there were starfleet officers in the background as well as some of Rolf’s staff
sitting in the situation room. There was a familiar face in the background, Admiral Edward Jellico
along with General Thomas Scott and various other Hadian military officials.
“Good morning majesty” everyone said.
“Good morning, I hope everyone slept well” Rolf added
“Sire” Aydolan began, “I was asked to give you an update on the Alewen Hover-Racing team.”
“Tell me they won” Rolf stated
“They did, they blew away the competition.”
“Good”
“Sire” General Scott interrupted, “We may have a problem with Destiny Station. It’s gone dark and
there not responding to hails”
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but Destiny Station is on the outer fringe of Commonwealth territory,
right?”
“That’s affirmative; we’re sending the U.S.S. Franklin to investigate. They’ll get there end of next
week.”
“Do we think this is the Elythians?”
“It’s a strong possibility. They have gotten more brazen since we learned about the destruction of
Aarogrian Prime. There stepping up their attacks and they don’t care who they target. The
Commonwealth could very well be in danger.”
“It’s imperative that starfleet steps up their investigation into the Elythians. Where are we on the
diplomatic front?”
McNal, the Commonwealth Security advisor spoke up, “The Elythians seem to be giving this
quadrant a wide birth so far, but that may not last. We have heard reports that there are a group
of Elythians who are trying to help races who haven’t been attacked yet.”
“That should be the first priority, let’s try to use some intermediaries to establish relations. I want
updates on this.”
“Yes sir” they all replied.
“Anything else?” asked Rolf
“Nothing sir” They all replied
“All right, we’ll pick up tomorrow.”
The transmission ended, “Seth, give Harry and me some alone time please.”
The bald officer snapped to attention, saluted and motioned for everyone to move to the next
room. “Well Commander, you’re an experienced officer, what are your thoughts?”

Harry stood behind and off to one side of the regent as the screen came to life, she listend to
everything that was said and tried to make sence of it all as it happend. She could not record it for
her own benifit or to go back through it later, she had to get it straight first time round.
When the transmission ended Harry was slightly confused by it all, but it was not really her
concern so she filed the whole thing away for future reference.

The bald officer snapped to attention, saluted and motioned for everyone to move to the next

Harry had not expected him to ask her what she thought about it all, this took Harry by surprise .
She quickly went through what she had heard during the transmission. "I need to clarify something
with you first, before I can give my opinion." she replied still thinking.
"Am I correct in thinking that the Elythians are enemies of your people? And that they are going on
a rampage in your system?" she asked thoughtfully.
"But that there are a few amounst them that do not agree with the actions of the majority, so are
trying to help those races or planets that have not yet been attacked by thier people?"

"What I am about to tell you stay between us. There is only one person I am authorizing you to
release this information to and that is the ship commanding officer. Most of what I am about to tell
you has been classified at the highest levels of Starfleet command. Outside of Starfleet
command, the only other person who knows this information is the President of the United
Federation of planets. Five years ago, I was selected by Starfleet command to command the firstever
Federation Starbase in the Andromeda galaxy. When the station went operational, I was
amazed to find my own people flourishing in the Andromeda galaxy. Their king, Floron, recently
passed away and a Regent, was put in charge."
"While the Federation began establishing diplomatic relations, the Hadian economy began to tank.
As commanding officer of Starbase Beta, it was my job to steer them in the right direction without
breaking the prime directive. To make matters worse, they found out that I was a royal prince and
began to put pressure on me to step up and lead them. For three years, I've resisted their pleas
citing that it would be a conflict of interest for me to lead them and command Starbase Beta in
addition to my duties within Starfleet. The tide turned, when it was revealed that the Regent, lied
our people into a two-year conflict with the Babylonians. A peace treaty that I've been negotiating
with their ambassador was finally completed and the Regent was arrested. The public then
demanded that I fulfill my destiny and lead them as King. After consulting with members of
Starfleet command, my wife, my son, my father, my brothers and sisters, and my staff is Starbase
Beta, I made the decision to stand down as commanding officer Of Starbase Beta, task force 91, I
have been placed on reserve status within Starfleet. At the request of the president of the United
Federation of planets, I have decided to continue in my position as Exodus Fleet Joint Command."
"Since last June, we have been hearing reports about dangerous species in the Andromeda
galaxy. They are so dangerous, that who ever encounters them is wiped out. They're called the
Elythians. Every Federation starship that has encountered them has been destroyed. So far only
one facility has escaped total destruction and that his sanctuary station. I have sent the task group
of starships to reinforce sanctuary station. Recently, Commonwealth territory has been attacked
by an unknown force. I have reason to believe the Elythians are behind this and that they are
gearing up for war."

hairsalon could be added, no she corrected herself in thought, should be added and made
available for the guests too. She shrugged as one curl of hair didn't stay as she wanted it. She
walked away and picked up the portfolio that lay on the diner table in her quarters.
He didn't know it yet, but she would go and discuss her plans and adjustments with the captain of
the ship that would be responsable for refitting the SS Imperium. She walked over to the
transporterroom and ordered the guy standing behind the console to beam her down to the USS
Rainmaker that was in transporter range as both ships headed for the Xavier Fleet Yards.
Another young lad was looking at her as she materialized on the transporderpadd of the Rainy
Ship. Before he could even say a thing, she walked over to the console, leaned forward, looked
the young man in the eyes and asked where she could find the Captain. After a few inquiries the
young ensign informed her that the captain was in the Observation Lounge.
"Ohhhh, an Observation Lounge?" She dropped the portfolio on the console, took out the paper
and pen from the small purge she was carrying and noted something down on the piece of paper.
"Thank you, sweety for the directions," she said as she picked up the portfolio again and left the
transporterroom searching for a turbolift that could take her to the appropriate deck.

Estaban smiled at that, it may not have been an issued challenge but he was going to do his level
best to be 'not available' when it came to his turn. "Dorella is your bossman-lady, and it's to her
not me you really have to answer to." He said the last bit with a smile but a small warning in his
voice, he knew, like Doctors, and Engineers, psychiatrists got very proprietorial about these
things.
[Beckett is LOA for a little while]
Estaban watched him leave. He had felt the ship launch but now that he was a Flag Officer he
was not part of the standard command of the ship.
He knew he had a Prince Regent aboard so he had better go down and meet him...
First he had to 'clean up'

Regent Emersons Quarters
When the transmission ended Harry was slightly confused by it all, but it was not really her
concern so she filed the whole thing away for future reference.
“Seth, give Harry and me some alone time please.”
The bald officer snapped to attention, saluted and motioned for everyone to move to the next
room. “Well Commander, you’re an experienced officer, what are your thoughts?”
Harry thought seriously about how to answer him, this was way over her head she was no tactitian
or diplomat. "Si . . . . . . . sorry Regent Emerson I am not sure I am qualified to give you any advice
on this situation, though from the sounds of things this is not a situation for diplomats or
politicians. Do you have any information on the weaknesses of the Elythian's, or if they have any
enemies that have in the past been able to stop them. Or if there is any planets or races that they
have deliberately avoided, there could be a reason they have done so." she said thoughtfully, she
needed some time to try and take in all the information he had given her. Harry was not used to
dealing with such large amounts of information, especially such sensitive information as this.

"At the moment, we don't. Part of my mission is to make contact with species who have
encountered them. I'll take that information back to the Senate and attempt to establish diplomatic
relations with them. But at the same time, starfleet will be building up our forces around the
Commonwealth. At the same time, we'll be exploring the Andromeda Galaxy hoping to run into
alleys who can help us."
He looked at Harry, lost in thought, reflecting, "Harry, I'm not going to lie. I'm scarred. I'm scarred
to death. I've fought a lot of powerful people, races, technology far superior to ours and have won.
Based on everything I've seen the last nine months, I'm terrified." Rolf said, he then turned around
to look at the viewer, "But if you say that in public, I'll deny it."
He turned around and smiled at her.

overly comfortable with the sound of these guys myself, without more knowledge of them I would

Estaban showered and changed to his dress whites, he had lost much on the station, his fine
Klingon armor and the house pin, several wines that he didn't have any more of, a full set of
handblown crystal stemware with his family crest laser etched into them, but he was lucky that he
had been wearing the family ring, he had the time to grab his bet'leH before leaving the station,
and his sword, the gift of his father when he became a master swordman so many years ago, had

Hope looked over the Starboard SIF Generator, it was just hanging on. The ship had been
handled rough during the escape from the station, she had ran the SIF and the ID to 145% at one
point. This old ship was not made for that and it was showing. She wondered why they were
heading for a Starfleet Ship Yard, had Yesab lost his mind? And she also didn't want to have
anymore to do with Starfleet then she had to, Fernandez was out there and had contacts
everywhere.
She looked over to Derra Morlok, "Do you think we can rebuild this one in flight and keep the port
side generator active to maintain the ship?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Derra looked up from the console she was studying intensely, her dark eyes intense. "Perhaps,
but we will not be able to finish before we arrive at the station, and the engine will have to be cold
if we are to repair the valve loose in the matter antimatter chamber. A wrong blow to the engine
and we could be nothing more than dust." She said as she pointed to the layout of the chamber
she was looking over and to the section where the valve was wearing down. Her sensitive ears
had picked up the sound of it before her direct scans.

"Hmm, well..." Hope thought a moment. "I could..." she tried to line it up but the arival at the fleet
yard was always the end result, and if she cracked open the generator and found something she

"Yeh," she said with slumped shoulders, "I hope Yesab has a plan because this ship needs a lot

"Indeed." She said plainly as she went to a hatch and took a welding tool, quickly sealing the
connectors leading to the conduits. A kind of rough repair of a piece that would need replaced.
"Perhaps we should inform Yesab that if we continue going at this pace to the station and don't
get the engine shut down soon we may very well be destroyed by our own engine? We do not
need spacedock facilities to repair the engine, we just need it shut down and the replacement
parts." She said in a manner that wasn't emotionless but at same time there was no fear of death

“Thanks Estaban, this was very thoughtful of you. By the way, you can sit down to before you

New Hadian Prime.
“Dad?” Bowie asked with some surprise
“Bowie, what are you doing up?”
“I can’t sleep.”

[Yesab: On the SS Imperium]
Yesab was in his lab. He was still angry that his ship was being flown by a starfleet pilot and that
he had been forced out of his chair. He was glad all the non-paying guests that Estaban forced on
him were gone and on the planet. But Yesab would collect from Estaban, yes he would. A grin
crossed his face, not only that but, Dia was on the Rainmaker. He intended to find out who this
man was that stole her heart from him. Yes, that man will pay as well, he laughed to himself.
(muahahha!)
He took a sip of his stong black coffee and looked over his blueprints for his secret lab. A lab
within this lab, behind a sliding wall, with a large mural painting of himself, to help hide the wall. He
would get Dorella to paint his handsome face, he knew she was an artist from his background
studies of her. He had done his background checks on all of the crew, muaha, to best use them
for his bidding. Estaban owed him, big, this was his revenge for the taking and turning of his
babies away from him. He still had intents to search for his babies and regain their love for him,
for he is their creator.
He tapped his badge, "Nurse, I need your assistance......nurse...?" He left his lab and went to her
desk area, where the.. is she now? He thought. Well, no matter. He felt the ship give a small jolt.
It's the pilot or the engines he told himself. He thought back to the strange Klingon he had hired
as engineer, he wanted to look at the engines but had been avoiding the Klingon one, she
was..well, mean. Ouch, he remembered where she had grabbed him when she demanded a yes
or no for the job. He gave a sigh and made his way to the engine room hoping he could avoid her.
He entered and scoped out slowly one area then another, he heard talking, damn, he thought,
Hope and the Klingon are together, so much for avoidance of the Klingon one. Yesab cleared his
throat, ahemm. "So, what's the damage? Is my Empire going to make it?"

antimatter separate until it's ready to be used." She said backing up the girl.

response. He still remembered the first thing he told her in the Captain's Readyroom. It drew a
smile to his face.
Harry noticed Estaban look her way and smile, a week ago that would of made her angry. Now it
just made her wish she could truly disapear into the couch, he knew she felt uncomfortable round
him just now and by the look of it he thought it was amusing. She was not only feeling very hot
due to her embaressment but she was now also thirsty, she knew it was unpolite to ask for
refreshments when a guest as she was but she needed a drink so took a deep breath before
speaking. "Excuse me Regent Emerson, Sir." she said giveing a slight nod to Estaban on the Sir.
"I hope you can forgive my rudeness for asking. Please may I get myself a glass of water?" she
asked her voice soft and slightly unsure.

"So, tell me about this current mission your on. I understand you have to repair a civilian ship of
some kind?" Rolf asked, "I've been buried in security briefings and meetings the past five days."

Estaban looked at the floor in shame. "I... ah... commandeered a civilian vessel during the
tournament, and the Captain of it had some kind of pull with my superior officers, or caught them
at a very convenient time... so our next mission is to refit and remodel his ship." Estaban's face
hardened and he looked genuinely angry. "He is a criminal, we were the ship sent to clean up his
mess, and catch him but now his record is clean and my orders are to remodel his ship according
to his specifications." The frustrations easily readable in both his tone and facial expressions.
"We should be locking him up and instead I have to do his bidding."

Seeing that both men were deep into thier conversation and had either not heard her or chose to
ignore her, she stood and went to the replicator to help herself. She didn't return straight away to
her seat instead she leant against the wall to think, as she sipped on her water with lemon. She
had heard what Estaban had said about thier next mission and was not overly pleased about it
herself, she had a deep dislike for that Yaseb char she didn't trust him in the slightest.

help provide me critical intel years later that help prevented the Cur from going to war with us.”
He took a final sip. “What I’m trying to say is this, don’t look at this mission as a set-back, look at
this as an opportunity. Your CO of one of the most powerful task forces in the Federation, grey

Estaban nearly burst out laughing, containing himself at the last moment with a stifled "Yes, Sir."
He could see the kind of Intelligence Yesab would share. But a moment's reflection brought to
mind that if Estaban had a tattletale installed on the Bridge of the Imperium to relay the data
Yesab received, his might get some very interesting things indeed.
He nodded his head, "Yes... when you put it that way."

said haltingly. "I know I am in command of one of, if not the most powerful Task Force in Exodus,
but..." He paused, the next part might sound to much like blasphemy, "since we were detached
from Bravo Fleet and assigned to Exodus it seems like we have lost a direction... our goals...
reasons..." His hand waved in a circular motion trying to describe his meaning while he groped for
the right words. "My Task Force is strong and still solid, the people under me I am not worried
about, but the the fleet goals are not solidly in place yet."
He paused and shifted, to reveal that to one of the people that was leading the Fleet was a bit like
saying he might not trust him, Estaban did trust him but was just uncertain of the overall scheme
of things. "Kind of funny for the Head of the Intelligence Task Force to be admitting to, where right
hand not knowing what left hand is doing and left hand is kind of fussy on the subject too, is part
of normal life."

Re: Remodeling Yesab's Empire
Reply #150
Rolf couldn't help but smile and chuckle. "Let me tell you a story." He motioned for Estaban to
come closer. "Do you remember when Admiral Chadwick, who is my uncle, and I had that very
public disagreement and ultimately I was asked to step down as Executive Officer of TF58. I was
hurt and I was angered that my own Uncle took the word of an ambitious woman who couldn't
care less how those under her command had been treated then one of the fleet's most capable
officers. It was the fifth year anniversary of DS7. We were all happy on Allura. But, after I had
discussions with my senior staff, I realized that I was no longer felt welcomed in Bravofleet."
Rolf couldn't believe he was remembering this. "Admiral Wallace, the commander of the 12th fleet
came to see me. He had herd through channels that I was contemplating leaving the fleet.
Instead, he needed a TFCO in one of his TF and my name floated up to the top of his very short
list. He felt I had been passed over for promotion far too many times and that he wanted to give
me a chance to proved myself. So he's teh reason I left Bravofleet back in 75. I never looked
back, that was the best decision of my life. That move was the right one for me as it opened up
doors that ultimately led me to be tapped for the Andromeda Galaxy mission."
Rolf looked at his friend, "Estaban, I know you got your doubts about Exodus. When Te'pez,
McConnel and I spent all those countless hours over the comm lines discussing and planning this,
we were scared. But every destiny has a vision. I think that once we get stabilized, you'll see that
things will get easier to manage. While I may be a reservist right now, I still carry an important
voice as a member of Joint Fleet Command. So I know what's going on. Trust the leaders, trust
us. I've always stood up for every man and woman under my command. You're under my
command, so is Hadrian, so are the others. Trust us Estaban, you ever need to talk, comm me.
When I get back home, I'll issue an order allowing you or anyone else that commands a Task
force in the fleet to contact me. What do you think?"

Estaban looked at him. "OK, that's fair enough." He agreed, but in truth was not really convinced.
"I do trust you."
Estaban fidgeted the court decorum lapsed for the moment. Fishing around to change the subject
Estaban asked, "Have you made any progress with the economic situation?"
<tag>

"NO" Rolf said in frustration now that the subject had been changed, "The Separatist left me with
a mess on my hands. There already saying in the press that I don't have the knowledge or the
know how to fix it. But that's the least of my worries. These Elythians scare the hell out me. I've
fought dozens of species before, but nothing on this scale. They make the borg look like school
kids"
Rolf couldn't help but show some fear on his face with his next sentence, "I may have to lead my
people into war and there not ready to fight."

Rolf couldn't help but show some fear on his face with his next sentence, "I may have to lead my
people into war and there not ready to fight."
Estaban sat there, he had some information about that situation but had not expected Rolf to
come right out and say that. Part of his training had been tactics as a child growing up, and he
thought about it closely.
"The people are never ready for war, it's the leaders that have to be ready." He thought of all the
tactical information he could. "Don't fight a defensive war, strike out against them in their own
territories. Choose the time and place rather then let them. Make them come to you." He paused
to think how to explain it. "When a man has to protect something he will fight harder but he has to
fight in a limited area. Make them come to you at a distant planet, one of theirs, then pin them
between you and the planet. That way they are in entangled ground, you can leave but they can
not."
He cast around for more. "To destroy their armies is good to take them intact is better. Lop off the
head and the body falls. A destroyed ship or squadron is good, a captured one is better, attack
small groups with large ones, take the ships rather then destroy them. Then turn around and use
their own ships against them." Estaban smiled, "feed your men victories, give them the credit for
them, and they will fight to the death for you."
"Never show fear, laugh as you go into battle." Estaban warmed a bit more to the subject, "don't
underestimate them, but don't let them become more powerful in your mind then they are. And I
don't ever want to hear you say they are more powerful then the Borg again. If they are, then you
are doomed, if they are not, you are giving them power over you."

Senior Staff Meeting - Rainmaker staff JP
03/26/09
Bryon sat down at the head of the table, prepared for the rest of his staff to arrive around this time.
He had a summery of what was assigned to them on some PADDs laid on the table in front of
each seat.
Quote:
SS Imperium Refit
Yesab, commander of the Cargo Ship 'Imperium' has requested that the Rainmaker SCE team
refit his ship to make it a luxury liner, complete with a five star restaurant, casino, spa, and secret
lab.
We will be escorting the Imperium to XFY [Xavier Fleet Yards] where such Refit will take place.
While the Rainmaker crew is working on the Imperium the Rainmaker will be docked at the yards
to be worked on, there has been substantial damage to most of the Bio systems aboard the ship
and other areas.
The fleet yard crew will be working on the Rainmaker.

Kuerne walked in the Briefing Room. To her surprise she was still one of the first to arrive.
"Captain." She nodded to the Captain who sat at the end of the table and sat down herself on one
of the empty chairs.
Since he had come onboard, she had hardly spoken to the man, she didn't know him still.
During her short trip to the Briefing Room, she had called one of the nurses to go to sickbay to
keep an eye on toreQ and making sure he would actually stay there. But now she had another
decision to make, she had to appoint someone to replace Peter as headnurse.
She looked down on the padd she had brought along and went over the medical crew to find the
best candidate, as she waited for the other department heads to arrive.

[Deck 6: Corridor to turbolift]
Having swung by his quarters, Tom had changed out of the Monster Maroon uniform and had
hung it in the closet with care. He’d changed into the lighter, more modern uniform and had kept
Type-2C-A Boarding Phaser with its pistol grip in its holster under his left arm. The more
ergonomic phaser, the modern Type 2 hand phaser, with its silver finish rested firmly in the holster
at his side. Maybe after the senior staff briefing, he could check the holodeck computers again for
some old Miranda class program. If he didn’t find it, he’d check out the Terpsichore program.
The corridors of the ship passed by Tom as he made his way to the nearest turbolift, and its
destination on the bridge. His thoughts went back the tournament, to how different it was and how
much of an impact it had on everyone involved or at least himself. It was the same galaxy, but a
different time or so he’d remind himself. Stepping into the turbolift, Tom felt the car move through
the decks.
“In my time, a tournament like that wouldn’t have been possible,” a voice rang out from the
other side of the turbolift, with a Maine accent as second nature. The man, an officer in his late
forties leaned against the opposite bulkhead in an old Earth-style blue coverall uniform with yellow
stripes on the shoulders and silver bars abreast of each other. The officer was well known to him,
known as Captain George Marek his own great-grandfather. “What has happened to turn the
family line from being explorers to being aimed like the barrel of a phase pistol?”
“You were an explorer, not Steven and he passed that on to me. The boundaries of friendly
space aren‘t as close to Earth as they were in your time…” Tom began.
“Listen to me, Thomas. You are getting cozy with being in one place. You’re letting your guard
down and the galaxy is passing you by. The family’s legacy isn’t at the barrel of a phase pistol, but
as explorers. There wasn’t any doubt gunboat diplomacy was my method, but we were explorers.
You…you’re an armory officer amongst explorers. Change the uniform, Thomas…” George
began.
“I made my choice. I am an explorer, but I swore to defend my shipmates. That’s never
changed,…it’s why I joined Starfleet in the first place,” Tom interrupted, looking at the floor of the
turbolift only briefly. “It’s nice to see you, George, but when are these reunions going to end. I‘m
already doubting my sanity…” he said looking back over to where his great-grandfather had stood.
With the exception of himself, the turbolift was empty. Had it been another trick of his mind? He
wasn’t tired or anywhere near the point of exhaustion, and he wasn’t troubled by the events
following the tournament. Why was he seeing his dead family and relatives? At least this time,
there hadn’t been any other officers crowding into the turbolift with him or he would really be
questioning his sanity.
[Deck 1: Observation Lounge: A short time later]
Stepping through the doors of the observation lounge, he found both the captain and Kuerne
had already taken their seats at the table. Chiding himself a bit on his timing, Tom moved around
and took a seat in one of the vacant chairs.
<tag any in the observation lounge>

Kuerne looked up from her padd, she had made her decision, now all she had to do was convince
the person in question himself to take up the position from headnurse again. Hopefully Dave
would agree with it, if not she would have to look for another candidate. Her eyes suddenly
spotted Tom and she smiled towards him.
As the doors of the Observation Lounge opened and a none crewmember of the Rainmaker
walked in, the padd Kuerne was holding clattered on the table. Kuerne just stared at The Nurse in
disbelief, what was she doing onboard this ship?
The Nurse rolled her eyes as she saw doctor Sunshine sitting at the table. She then totally ignored
the doctor looked at the other people in the room, gave a wink to a handsome fellow in a gold
uniform and then layd her eyes at the bearded man sitting at the head of the table.
She layd down the portfolio at the table and sat down at the empty chair next to the Captain,
cleared her throat and turned a bit so she was facing him.
Totally ignoring everyone else from the staff in the room she started talking. "I presume you are
the Big Boss of this Rainy Ship? Captain? My name is The Nurse, I was told that the crew of this
Fine Rainy Ship will be responsible for refitting Boss Curly's Empire?"
Kuerne looked at the the Captain, as a few pieces fell together in her mind. The only person ever
talking of an empire was Yesab. And now he had recruited this,... this person to do his dirty work?
Was he too afraid perhaps to show up on the Rainmaker himself. Kuerne looked at the captain,
waiting for him to say no and that there had been a mistake. If not she didn't know what she would
do.
In the mean time The Nurse kept talking, not giving anyone a chance to intervene. "I have brought
here the plans for the refit that needs to be done. Seeing I love to see actual results, I have made
some drawings of how some of our main features should look like. So if you don't mind I would
like to show them to you and ask for your input. Surely a well established man as yourself, will
have a few ideas to add too?"
Kuerne couldn't take it anymore and stood up. "Captain?" was the only thing she said.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
The arrival of the head nurse in the Observation lounge was unexpected and Tom was
surprised she‘d shown up on this ship. Though, it was out of bounds of the regulations for a nonmember
of the ship’s compliment to barge in on a senior staff meeting without at least announcing
themselves and more importantly without proper clearance.
“Ma’am, this area’s off-limits to civilians. You’re going to have to wait until the meeting is over
to speak with the captain. As ship’s chief of security, I will have to ask you to leave,” Tom said,
rising from the chair. “I don’t care who this Boss Curly is,…he should know the bridge is off limits
to civilians. You can leave on your own accord or security will escort you off this bridge,” He was a
little annoyed at how no one had apparently prevented or at least questioned the nurse from
making it to the bridge.
She laid down the portfolio at the table and sat down at the empty chair next to the Captain,
cleared her throat and turned a bit so she was facing him.
Totally ignoring everyone else from the staff in the room she started talking. "I presume you are

“I’ll take care of this, sir,” Tom said, moving closer to the head nurse. He wasn’t going to wait
for security to escort her off the bridge. He didn’t know why she had arrived on this ship or what
reason her boss wanted to have a ship like the Rainmaker held responsible for refitting his own
ship. “I’m sure there are other shipyards your Boss can take his ship,” He hadn’t read the mission
briefings as he’d been too involved in getting the Rainmaker’s tactical system’s repaired and
rebuilt.
Kuerne couldn't take it anymore and stood up. "Captain?" was the only thing she said.
Turning to face the captain, he’d wait to see what Cox had to say before he escorted the
woman from the bridge. He’d grown up in a Fleet where the bridge was completely off-limits to
civilians except in emergency situations, and the briefing room was one of those places. Tom had
learned quite a bit about the twenty-fourth century, but he still harbored the old teachings. It hadn’t
been lost on him how Kuerne had reacted to the head nurse’ mentioning of her Boss, and with any
luck it would be seen as him falling back on his old training. “With permission, sir, I will see this
nurse to one of the other decks,”
< tags >
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
Bryon sat there, the woman who was apparently just called "The Nurse" came in, Marek wanted to
remove her but if she had plans for what she thought the Imperium should look like Bryon thought
that might be helpful.
He looked at Marek, then Kuerne when she said his name, "One moment Lieutenant Marek...
Nurse... yes, Doctor?" He asked Kuerne.
<tag Kuerne>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
“Aye, sir,” Tom replied. He’d wait to see what the Nurse had to say, and what the captain would
say. It wasn’t lost on him how upset Kuerne was over how this Boss Curly had chosen the
Rainmaker to supervise repairs. Taking a few steps back, he clasped his hands behind his back
and his feet were placed apart in an at ease stance.

The nurse rolled her eyes again as she turned her head slowly to watch Dia. Of course doctor
Sunshine had to interrupt again. She started to drum with her laquered fingernails on the
tabledesk.
Kuerne ignored the nurse and looked at Captain Cox, "What is our next mission exactly, sir?" She
was still hoping it wouldn't involve Yesab and his ship and that the nurse being onboard was just a
mistake.
The nurse, still tapping with her fingernails, kept quiet. She still hadn't forgotten how Doctor
Sunshine had thrown her out of Sickbay during the Tournament. And she still wanted revenge for
getting sacked too. She stared at Dia, a small alknowing smile on her face. She wanted to see the
look on doctor's Sunshine's face, when Captain Beardy would confirm what she already knew.

As he stepped off he realized he was a bit lost and was somewhere near engineering. He spotted
a rather striking redhead and called out to her, "Excuse me, " He searched her collar for pips
before continuing, "Commander. Do you know where Sickbay is?"
[a short time later]
Dorella had the report that a Talus Rel was to join the Rainmaker in her department. She had
been looking for him so that she could take him to the Staff Meeting. She had somehow missed
him on every deck she had gone to, finally she found him near Sickbay.
Being late there was no time for explainations. "You are Lt. Talus Rel? Follow me, we got a staff
meeting to get to."
On the way there Dorella was thinking, What do we need another counselor for? Ok, I am still
panicking about bugs, but I can do my job. So I can't sleep because I am scared of death, they
don't know that. I'm under control, all is fine! I didn't die, well, almost two times but... I'm fine! Kain
now on the other hand, he talks to Murphy, there is a big difference, I don't talk to anybody! I heal
people, well, since this Talus person was sent to help, who am I to question the great Starfleet, I
will just work with him and no one will know that it annoy's me.
[a short time after that]
[Observation Room]
Dorella turned and smiled as Talus followed her into the Observation Room. She took a seat.
"Sorry we are late," Dorella gave a glance at The Nurse who didn't belong in the meeting.

Bryon acknowledged the two know arrivals then turned back to Kuerne, "Please, be patient all of
you. That is why I have called this meeting, I will be answering any questions you may have, the
briefing is on a PADD infront of you, if you're sitting."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talus sat quietly, doing what he did best, observing the members of the crew that were present.
He had a feeling he didn't really belong here, as he wasn't a member of the Senior Staff in the
least. However, he wasn't about to argue with his new boss, who didn't all together seem that
thrilled with his new assignment either. As usual he would shlog through it and hope for the best.
He leaned back in his chair slightly and interlocked his fingers in his lap as he looked about. His
eyes seemed slightly amused at the antics of the woman paying exagerated attention to the
Captain at the head of the table, though his slightly severe face gave no sign of the amusement.
Talus was a bit of a paradox at times. He could look so stone cold serious until you studied his
eyes, which would give him away to a trained eye.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The nurse gloated inside as she saw how the captain treated doctor Sunshine. She would get her
revenge, she could feel it in the tip of her smallest toe. She just needed a bit more time and
Captain Beardy here, would eat out of her hand.
Kuerne was still standing, "With all due respect, sir, this person is not a staffmember, she
shouldn't even be here."
She picked up the padd from the table and started reading, before she even finished she slumped
back in the chair, dropped this padd on the table too. This wasn't happening. Why couldn't Yesab
stay away from their lives? She quickly threw a glance in Dorella's direction, she still remembered
Yesab's words when she had breakfast with him last time. This was one big mistake.
The Nurse turned back to Captain Beardy, "Ohhhhhh, just ignore her, my dear Captain. Doctor
Sunshine, here, just doesn't like the fact, I'll be giving her assignments concerning the refit of our
Empire."

Bryon looked at The Nurse, "What gives you the authority to give her assignments? The
Rainmaker's SCE team will be primarily in charge of the refit, along with the Rainmaker crew."

"Oooohhhhhhhh, but my dear Captain. We, that is Boss Curly and I, we only want to work with the
best. Hence why we approached your fine Ship in the first place. And even Doctor Sunshine here,
despite her somewhat difficult character, I am sure, delivers good results. Surely she can be
assigned to set up the massage salone and the luxurious medical facility we have planned on the
Empire? I will guide her personally to make sure the plans are followed, you can count on me, my
dear Captain."

The Nurse's voice was slightly Intoxicating, "We'll see, But Doctor Dianti doesn't seem to pleased
with the matter, if she doesn't feel she needs you there she has the authority to remove you."
Bryon looked around, "errmmm... Is everyone here?"
